Top Local Tips for Playa Del Carmen

Diving, exploring, day trips Tank ha dive center were great, right next door, 4 dives, highlite was Cozumel and the cenotes dives. A bit more cost than the volume shops but small groups vs massive crowds. Take a day trip to Cozumel and rent a scotter. Avoid Xel ha , a tourist trap Don Emilios a block of 5th was by far the best food we had over 14 days.

CAUTION Credit cards .Caution using credit cards : I had fraud charges on mine after I returned....someone got my number and was using it around Mexico, not just Playa del Carmen. I only used it 3 times so the investigation should be quick. Thanks goodness the card company did not approve all the purchases, as there were many !!!

Great Local Places to Eat (the non-tourist traps). HC Monterrey - best meat ever. Salamandria -- cheapest drinks in town. Dr. Taco -- best tacos. All three very cheap. You won't find many tourists in these places but if you try to speak a little Spanish you'll do fine. //// If you rent a car, watch your change when you get gas at Pemex (monopolized gas stations). We tried to get ripped off. This was the only negative experience we've had in Playa... well, the only other thing that bothered us was all the shop keepers hustling you to check out their stores. Otherwise, we love Playa!
