We went to the Gran Porto Real in March 2006 for 5 nights. My dad had checked into this resort last year and was disappointed to see that the hurricaine had wiped out about 2/3 of their beach, so there wasn't much to that. There were many boats moored to the beach, so not much room to swim. The hotel was beautiful, staff was friendly. We were stuck in a horrible room at first (room 313) which was the smallest Junior Suite and located behind the elevator, so the noise level was high. We were swiitch the next day, by our request, to a nice room (332). Very spacious rooms, clean, and great housekeeping. The biggest thing that impressed me was the quality of the food; we had never stayed at an all-inclusive before, and I was always warned about them, but the food was fabulous. Basically anything you wanted for any meal. Albatros, the buffet-style restaraunt, was where we ate a couple evenings, but mostly breakfast and lunch. Il pescatore and Maria's were also great; great service as well. The biggest disappointment of our trip was that it apparently was a prime spring break location for high schoolers; there were a couple large groups of kids with minimal adult supervision. They were so out of control at times that the bar at the pool was shut down early in order to stop serving them. I was under the impression that they didn't allow spring breakers, that was one of the reasons we chose this resort. They also had nightly entertainment, which was very impressive. I would definitely stay here again, however, there are so many places to eat in PDC, that I would like to venture out more. The resort has a prime location just blocks off 5th Ave., the main shopping area.
