Top Local Tips for Mexico City

Palacio de Bellas Artes Visist this exquisite building for several reasons. First the glorious Beaux Arts Cararra marble exterior; then the fabulous, elegant Art Deco interior (complete with an array of masterpiece murals by Diego Rivera, Orozco and others.) Then buy a ticket to the Ballet Folklorico (which is amazing, heart stopping fun) and see the show and the interior of this amazing building at the same time. It even has a Tiffany glass ceiling and 'curtain.' Surely one of a kind. If that isn't enough, there is a very good restaurant in the lobby, which you can dine at all day whether you are going to a show or not.

Taxis Don't flag down taxis on the street, even though they are everywhere. When you arrive at the airport, go to one of the taxi desks, you pay them, and then then take a ticket to find an official airport taxi. Going back to the airport, or anywhere else, let your hotel or restaurant organise a taxi for you. Make a note of the taxi number just in case. Mexico city is quite an intimidating place at night, don't walk anywhere where there aren't plenty of people.

zoo There is a large, free zoo in the giant and beautiful park where the Anthropology Museum (another must not miss) is situated.
