The hotel was clean and affordable. Just a couple of blocks from the main square where there are activities daily.

Top Local Tips for Merida

Do NOT get ripped-off on Tequila Warning: 1. Do NOT buy Tequilla from a store downtown.The sealed bottle we bought was not only overpriced, but WATERED DOWN!!!!! We paid $45 US for a bottle of Il Jimador (100%AGAVE) from a store - Artesananias El Nohoch -in front of the horse and carriages on Calle 61 near Calle 60. The store was on a top floor - picture attached. The store owner is such a greedy jerk! We later found the same bottle at Wal-Mart for $13 US - so why did he need to water this down??? GREEDY THIEF is all I can say! Our hotel clerk called the Tourist Police to assist us and I have to say they are amazing. This was quick and we walked back to the store and they helped us out. The JERK who clearly feels justified in ripping off AMERICANS (he thought we were Americans and made disparging remarks about Americans and how they don't know any better) ultimately gave us a portion of our money back when the Police told the storekeeper that he knew it was not Tequila that he sold us. I only wanted to make a point about the tequila and didn't want to lose too much time on this, so this was fine for me. BUT, be WARNED!!!

Saturday Night Party On Saturday nights the streets in the city center are blocked off. The restrurants put their tables in the street and there are numerous musical groups. It is a great street party.

mosquitoes and mujeres most of the year, mosquitoes are a big bother... serious infectuous diseases are a real and present danger. Be sure you are prepared for them.Also, the women in this town are treacherous. Should you "Get Lucky" , watch your wallet, etc. Them slipping a drug into your drink is very possible. and if you are seeking male companionship, they really are not any different. These mayan descendents will treat you with all the insincerity they have learned since the conquistadors arrived without a reservation.
