This wonderful old hacienda has a large, clean pool in a beautiful garden setting. Nice large rooms (some poolside)with fans and AC. Pretty gardens and public areas. Great terrace for dining. This is a relaxed but well-run place, with owners that are very helpful and accomodating. The emphasis is on accomodating you and the impression is that you are visiting friends who want you to have a wonderful time on your terms. The atmosphere is charming old-hacienda, there is a lot of space, with antique furniture and stone, while the facilities are modern and the ambiance casual. You can spend hours listening to the parrots, lounging in a chair outside your room, swimming in the pool and be totally undisturbed. Or you can chat with other guests, help yourself to a drink from the honor bar, have a good dinner (US$10) at your private table or family style at a huge table in the dining room. Breakfast (included) on the covered terrace is exceptional. Lots of fruit, fresh-squeezed orange juice, really good coffee arrive automatically. And you can order cereal, eggs, ham, bacon, too. If you don't want to move during the day, a sandwich will be made for you. Beer and wine are priced moderately, as are mixed drinks. The location is a good one, a short ride from the town of Merida. The owners (who are Canadian) will call a taxi for you to town (10 minutes to Merida), cost US$5.00, or direct you to the bus, which only costs a few cents. If they are going to town, they will take you with them. They will help with tours, travel advice, have someone meet your plane, and might even ask you to come with them on an adventure. In addition to the Canadian owners, there is a Mayan staff who are very sweet and keep everything very clean. The accomodations are pretty and reasonable -- from US$85 per night (poolside) to US$150 for a suite. Coming soon are accomodations with your own jacuzi, palapa area, garden, pool, etc. Overall, staying at this charming hacienda is a lovely experience. Highly recommended.

Top Local Tips for Merida

Merida, Yucatan We chose Merida as it was a more "authentic" Mexican city compared to the resorty areas of the coast. It was true to that - however the reality was we were tired as it was the end of our trip. It was really hot and it was a crowded city that did not seem to offer a lot of historical things to see. I think we just missed the coast! However, I have to say the hotel made it worth while!
