We had a wonderful stay at Los Dos BandB in Jocotepec. Excellent accommodations, wonderful people who run it and work there, gorgeous pool and rooms and great food. Walking distance to town and generally a terrific time. We stayed two weeks and can't wait to return.

Beautiful Place

We were looking for a place to rest and enjoy with our 6 year old, Los Dos turned out to be just what we needed and more, it is filled with nature and art, the gardens are breathtaking and the rooms so cozy and functional. It is a beautiful creation.

Another Piece of Paradise

We spent four wonderful weeks at Los Dos B&B this past winter. What a treat to stay at this special place which is a member of the Historic Hacienda Inns Association. Our hostess Phyllis is a warm, gracious, generous and talented woman and it was a treat to get to know her as well as her wonderful staff Mari, Rita and Manuel and her lovely pets.

Everything was as advertised on the website if not better and all the suites are unique with amazing art in each. The pool was most relaxing on warm afternoons, while garden areas offered shady nooks to escape the sun. The nearby birdbath was always a flurry of activity and we enjoyed the great variety of species which made use of it.

The community of Jocotopec offers an authentic taste of Mexico with a number of charming restaurants, a colourful market, and the downtown plaza perfect for a cool drink while people watching. If you plan an extended stay there are numerous day trips to choose from. We checked out some of the mountain towns nearby, other communities around the lake , Guadalajara and a remarkable 3- day tour to the neighbouring state of Michoacan to view the wintering site of the Monarch butterflies.

We hope we will be able to return to this remarkable “piece of paradise” in the future.

Exceptional accommidations and great staff

Located in Jocotepec, Mexico, Los Dos is a well kept secret. A beautiful piece of heaven that over looks Chapala Lake,with maid service and a full breakfast on the deck of the main house daily. Phyllis Rauch is a wonderful host that is very familular with the area and is full of information and ideas of places to go and visit having lived there for over 30 years. The prices are very reasonable. We were very happy with our stay at Los Dos and plan on returning again. We highly recommmend that you stay at Los Dos.

Mexican adventure

We have enjoyed several delightful stays at Los Dos in 'our own casita' but with all the back up of domestic clean ups, very knowledgeable hosts and good company at breakfasts!
The walk into Jocotapec is very much part of the Mexican experience as we have got to know several other residents as we slowly walked between the places. We do not have a car whilst staying. Walking in the daytime is fine and would take a taxi back at night and generally do our own evening meals in our well stocked kitchen.

The resident artists were more than willing to give advise on our painting efforts and tell us of local cultural events mainly organised by resident Americans.
Well worth visiting. We have recommended this B&B to our Brit friends asking about Mexico!

A little piece of Heaven!

We have been back so many times (7) that we might as well call it our 2nd home in Mexico. The Owner and her staff make you feel like Family and any of the rooms or the Casita are well epuipped and comfortable. There is no better way to start your day than walking through the luscious garden to get to the veranda for your breakfeast while you are enjoying the breathtaking view of Lake Chapala and the surrounding mountains.

Los Dos was a haven. My suite was spacious, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The view from the patio, across the gardens and the pool, down the hillside to Lake Chapala is quite lovely, especially at sunset. The gardens are lovingly cared for by Phyllis, the host, and Manuel, and are filled with bits and pieces of interesting artwork which one comes across quite unexpectedly. The small staff is quite obviously "part of the family" and they treat the guests as an extension of that family, with friendly care and attention. The breakfasts on the terrace are delicious and the scene of good conversation.
My only caveat is the road access, but it didn't prevent me from exploring the surrounding area - taxis are cheap!

We first came to Los Dos with a need to relax and recharge our batteries. It was the perfect place with its comfortable rooms, beautiful grounds, a breathtaking view of the lake, and all that interesting art. Since then, we have been back twice and plan to return again this winter. Phyllis, the owner, and her staff have gone out their way to make us feel at home and give us a taste of the real Mexico. This B&B is a very special place. Put it on your list of must visits.

Hidden jewel!

I have stayed at this beautiful, small B and B at least six times, and cant wait to come back each year. The suites are spacious, fully furnished, and beautifully decorated. The site is on a steep hill, but the views in the morning are spectacular! My wife and I, with and without kids have loved the hike into town, up the mountain, and feel that the location, on the outskirts of Jocotepec, is perfect. The grounds are peaceful and beautiful and the management could not be friendlier and helpful. We plan to return often to recharge, relax, and to explore this part of Mexico.

Rough area to get to

I had made reservations to go to Los Dos. They were pleasant and took my reservations by EMail. When my daughter and I came to find the place, very easy directions with signs telling how to get there. Then it was up a steep hill and the rainy season made it worse. I then decided that at this time of the year when we got to the gate I just turned around and got to a hotel on level ground. Probably is a beautiful place the hills and rough road made me a little afraid. My family is from Jocotepec so I know the area fairly well. Just if you pay in advance you may have no other choice but to stay there.

Top Local Tips for Jocotepec

Ajijic Ajijic has been a holiday centre for Mexicans for decades however, in the past few years, the surrounding area has been developed almost exclusively for "Anglo" retirees, either with year-round, or winter homes. The result is that Ajijic businesses gear themselves towards this market and you can spend much of your time there never having to speak a word of Spanish and rarely hearing Spanish spoken. This can make one's stay very easy, and it means that any service one might want is available. But, for me, part of the pleasure of being in another country is learning at least a few phrases of another language, and mixing with the locals.

Seein real Mexico Jocotepec is a reall serene place and the new Malecon makes it nicer. A new type of WalMart will be opening soon and already has two banks and even an OXXO. The Zocala is a pleasant way to see the people especially on Saturday night to see the hildren walking in circles to find their love one.

Like Pets? Make sure you like dogs and cats, because there are a lot of them!
