from RSBJGBEnjoyable not perfect
from A TripAdvisor MemberOur room was great. We were the last room on the corner on the second floor. The balcony hot tum and two person steam shower were extra nice touches. The thin walls that allowed us to hear our neighbors as the opened and shut closets were not as good. The rooms all look over the infinity pool and out to the ocean. I would request the top (3rd) floor.
We really liked the food and thought that it was a great deal to get the room and a continental b-fast plus lunch or dinner. The drinks were a bit on the weak side.
The beach is very small and like the pool, gets really crowded around 1pm. It seemed like both the pool and the beach were open to anybody who chose to dine in the restaurant. We were not so happy about the crowding.
The staff were lovely and professional.
There is no gym.
We had to be at the airport by 10:30 and therefore had to leave by 8am.
The 'free' shuttle service cost us $60 because we left right before their normal operating hours.
The hotel is on a very quiet street of private homes and villas. Town is a 10 min taxi ride or a 25min slow golf cart ride away. We didn't really investigate the town much as it was getting dark.
Beautiful and Peaceful
from TripUser1234Definitely take a trip to Garrafon Park, it's beautiful! Also stop by Manana in town, it's a great lunch or breakfast spot in the center of town. Rent a moped--they are much more fun than the slow golf carts!!
Snorkeling is a bit too popular and although cheap to for a day trip, was not very eventful. We can't wait to go back and explore more of Mexico.
I have found Heaven on Earth...
from ChellinNDSo we went for it and Villa Rolandi is a hidden paradise! Our stay was the first weekend in December and the weather was perfect. Our room was on the second floor with our doorway on the landing going upstairs, I think this would probably be the noisest location, but the balcony was the most private - nestled in the corner and from below a person looking up could not see us because of the palm trees. The "continental breakfast" was such a wonderful surprise each morning brought and placed in the secret little nook - open the door and a little slice of Heaven to start out your day: a large bottle of water, strong coffee, frothed milk, fresh squeezed oj, perserves, honey, butter and a basket of different breads and pastries - all warm and made in their oven. It was made complete with a fresh island flower placed on the tray - perfect to place in your hair for the day! We took our "tray of love" out on the balcony and relaxed eating and talking and enjoying our private view of the water, pool and beautiful palm trees and flowers.
This place was so unbelievable! The infinity pool and the padded, terrycloth covered lounge chairs were luxurious! We were waited on hand and foot from the moment we arrived! The price is a steal considering the room, the pool, the private beach and the restaurant! Wow! Those meals included in the price could be well over $100 to $150 a night and we ate so much wonderful, gourmet food! Seriously some of the best food and service we have ever experienced and we travel extensively. The only thing that irked me was the piano player! Before we left and read a review, a woman remarked that the piano player was a "pervert" we laughed and it became our inside joke before even arriving. But I thought the music was more annoying - cut out the piano playing that does not fit the mood of the restaurant and replace it with soft, mexican music. But getting back to the resort - run don't walk to this place! You may think you are going to the boonies and feel like you are making a mistake, but when you arrive - WOW! I had a massage on the beach and it was awesome! They will arrange it for you and you can either have it in the room or the beach area. The massage therapist turned out to be an American! Also, rent a golf cart and explore. We did it two days and it was worth every penny to come and go as you please. Since Villa Rolandi is on the other end of the island away from the downtown shopping, restaurants and beaches you will have to do it to make your experience complete! We are already planning on returning in June and December! I'm even remodeling a bathroom just so I can hang prints of my pictures of the palm trees and the breathtaking sunset from Villa Rolandi! This is truly a five star experience! Try it for yourself and really relax and live!

from A TripAdvisor MemberIf you have always been looking for that special luxury, romantic hotel, look no further
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe rooms a VR are special: large king-sized beds, a sitting area, a spacious two (2) person-six head steam shower and a spa tub on your balcony. Throw in Direct TV, a/c, a ceiling fan, twice daily maid service and you should find yourself quite comfortable. The hotel has its own private beach and an "infinity" pool that overlooks the beach.
This place also exudes romance. My girlfriend and I found having dinner on the restaurant deck a wonderful experience. Water lapping at your feet, a full moon overhead and Cancun's city lights off in the distance all made for a memorable dining experience. Of course, the three course dinner was excellent as was the service. The menu has lots of flambe desserts and coffee drinks all prepared with a certain theatrical flair.
The staff is welcoming, helpful and friendly. Do rent a golf cart for the day ($55/USD) and explore the island. The carts hold up to four people. VR is a quiet, romantic place so don't come here for "Cancun" style partying. Things pretty much shut down around 10pm.
We had a room on the third floor which can get a little water under the front door when it gets rainy and windy. Room#303,304,305 have nice views of the pool, ocean and Cancun off in the distance. When we arrived our a/c didn't work in our room, but was fixed the next day.
This is truly a special place to stay and relax. I've stayed in lots of 4 and 5 star hotels around the world and can recommend the Villa Rolandi without hesitation. If you have special requests or questions do e-mail the hotel in advance. They did respond quickly.
Villa Rolandi is a special place..
from Almost40!Even though all the suites are very similar, we were able to get a 3rd floor suite which had a spectacular brick ceiling that was done in the traditional curved fashion. The room had alot of attention to detail in lighting, bath amentiies, bed linens, and many other touches in the room. The view from the terrace is amazing overlooking the beautiful pool and secluded beach. We have high expectations in accomodations and we were not disappointed. We appreciated the poolside service of attention to detail again including the greatest teak lounge chaises.
Nicely done throughout with European feel in a mexcian fashion. Enjoyed the food as well, along with another great find down the road at Casa O's - a seaside palapa restaurant with a view of Cancun in the distant and sunsets to die for. Great service there too - was a treat to try something different as well. Overall the island doesnt offer a lot of other luxury hotels or shopping so dont expect that - but do expect a quaint rustic charm that you can enjoy on a golf cart touring the island in half a day no problem. Always a fun thing to do on "isla".
All in all it was a quiet holiday experience that we will look forward to repeating in the future. Wasnt cheap, but also we felt it was worthwhile since we paid offseason rates at 260 per nite and other resorts have been the same but left us looking for something more specialized. PS We are a couple in mid-thirties- found a good mix of guests of all types and ages)
WOW ! What a place...
from emperorneroRestaurant staff is world class. Even a glancing look sideways brings 2-3 servants ! Perfect, private beach and pool. What more do you need ?
Wonderful hotel, staff and rooms.

WRONG PORT!!! One of the neat things about this hotel is the nice boat they own that picks you up in Cancun. The trick is, when you get off of the plane in Cancun, it's a crazy scene. We thought it would be easier to pay $25 and take a cab to the port. Our cab driver dropped us off at the wrong port. We needed to be at Playa Linda, and we ended up at Porte Grande or something like that. After some stress, we payed a few bucks, took a fairy to the island (not as nice as a private yacht), and a cab to the hotel. A bit frazzled, we entered the beautiful lobby and said, "Senior Ben, Senioretta Lisa, where have you been, we've been looking for you!" We told them our trouble with our cab driver, he handed us some champain and said, "Welcome home." I almost kissed him.
NO Public Transportation Take a Taxi. No reason to rent a car. Do rent a golf cart (prices vary 40-55/day) for a day and explore the island. You can rent a cart with a days notice at the Villa Rolandi and you don't have to take a taxi into town and back to your hotel-about $18.00 round trip.
Don't come if you are looking for a spring break type trip This is a small Island and activities are limited. This is better suited for quiet romantic getaways.
