Getting there requires planning and a long day's drive, or a stopover enroute Driving takes 9-10 hours going south from the U.S. border, halfway between the U.S. border and the tip of the Baja Peninsula. Travel takes somewhat longer than people tell you. Do NOT drive after dark, because the narrow two-lane road twists and turns through the mountains. It is better to be safe and stay overnight somewhere. Traffic can be slow due to a large number of trucks, RVs, and camping trailers, in addition to local folks poking along. Fill up with gasoline when the tank drops to half full. Driving requires patience, skill, experience, and mature judgment -- not a road for younger or older drivers. Most frequent road signs warn of dangerous curves and ask motorists to reduce speed. Common to be stuck behind 5-10 RVs or behind 4-6 automobiles. Watch out for cattle on the road.
Petrol I was told by several people that the petrol (gas to you Americans!) can run out in the petrol stations, so if you need it fill up as soon as you get to the town.
