I stayed here on holiday, and the location is good if you want to see the Chicken Itza ruins. The bungalows are also nice, although the thatching on the roofs attracts bugs. When I arrived I was 'upgraded' to a bungalow. When I checked my credit card it turned out they had charged me twice, and when I asked for a refund they charged me for the upgrade, which I was quite miffed about. The hotel itself is nice and the gardens are beautiful but make sure to check your credit card bill, and if you are 'upgraded' make sure to ask if its free. Better still, pay in cash and don't give them your credit card details if possible.

Top Local Tips for Chichen Itza

Arrive early or late Buses stop at the main entrance of Chichen Itza. Plan to arrive early in the morning (for example by staying the night at the Mayaland hotel) or late in the afternoon. At mid-day Chichen Itza is full of tourists from the coast who want to tell the family that they have done something else then sleeping on the beach and sunbathing...

Visit to Chichen Itza site Go round with a tour guide - you will get so much more out of it than trying to read from a guide book - besides, you will pick up much more than any guide book will tell you and it is more fun. Go when it first opens at 8.00. Much less crowded and cooler. Once the day-trippers from Cancun start arriving, it gets very busy.

Ik Kil five minutes away from Chichen Itza, there´s Ik Kil an incredible Cenote (Sink Hole) where you can swim and enjoy the fresh borning water, you can´t miss this place!!!
