We have just returned from sun palace. We had a superb time. I was a little hesitant having read some of the reviews prior to leaving, however these were unfounded. The resort was spotlessly clean. The staff, from concierge to cleaners and bar and restaurant staff to the entertainment staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. The food couldn't have been better, particularly the Italian and Oriental restaurants. The facilities were also superb. The weather was great as well which just made the holiday all the better. A brilliant holiday.

Great rooms, badf staff and so so service

The best thing about the sun palace hotel are the rooms. They really are spacious and loaded with amenities. That's where the great things END. The food overall is sub-average and the only consistent meal of the day where you KNOW you can expect at least daily average quality is breakfast. Then there is the staff, really they aren't bad people, but first of all they do not speak any other language well except spanish and most of them hardly speak english well, even the staff at the front desk. Even with the staff members who DID speak or understand english somewhat "ok" you will find yourself constantly repeating things and alot of the times it has nothing to do with language barrier. They just can't handle doing more than one simple thing at a time. It gets very annoying after a day or 2. Now to the pools, they aren't anything to write home about. For a hotel chain of such ambition, they certainly were not very ambitious when it came to their few tiny pools. Back to the food, my girlfriend had found a half eaten shrimp-tail inside the mixed fahitas in the hotel Mexican themed restaurant btw. I looked at the menu for dinner that night and there were NO shrimp dishes on the menu and NOTHING with shrimp in it all that night. I had told this to the manager of the restaurant and he outrightly LIED to me saying that " it is from our barbecued shrimp on the menu" !. Anyway, this hotel is good for the average Americans who are usually satisfied on those smelly and unhealthy cruises that so many go on. The sun palace hotel will seem like paradise for them, but not for the well-travelled individual who is experienced. The sun palace gets a thumbs-down from me, why?, mainly because you cannot have 3rd world staff working at a supposed 4 star hotel, it doesn't match. The staff are not properly matched up with the hotel and it is obvious that Palace Resorts has definitely cut corners by saving money on hiring low quality staff and serving VERY low quality food and liquor. Next time I will be glad to pay DOUBLE the price to go to mediterranean to see Spain or Greece, which have more to offer as a whole and with better quality staff and food.

Everything always manana!

Sun Palace is an all-inclusive resort. It is small compared to the other resorts in Cancun, giving it a bit more 'home-y' feeling. The staff is great and friendly and all is well until you complain about anything. They will listen and take notes, but no action. We reported a $20us rip-off attempt by a taxi (number 998) to the hotel service desk. They promised us a follow-up, but none came. We reported a problem to one of the managers, with an activity booked with the tour operator in the hotel lobby (Chaza Travel). Again no help from the hotel to resolve the issue. If you go Sun Palace, make sure you get a room on floor 5 or lower. The floors 6-8 are serviced by 1 elevator only ! The same elevator services floors 0-5, but there are 2 more elevators for those floors. The 4th elevator is reserved for the hotel staff. Food is decent, but not outstanding. For a good meal head into town.

The hotel is wonderful! It has a beautiful beach and hotel layout. the only thing i would reject about the Sun Palace is that the food wasnt as good as we thought. it was decent food but nothing great or fancy! the snorkling was fun and the pool is great! I had one of the best vacations there! Other then the food, the hotel was awesome!
