Being English and used to the standards I receive many times I have visited the USA - this was a disaster - not a 4 star at all.
The room was small, dingy. Not properly cleaned for our arrival and the balcony with a sea view room was on the first floor, overlooking the roof of the buffet dining room - some 30m x 30m with the air conditioning vents as our view. No better alternatives available, but we could upgrade. Nice one! We did at $60 USD a night to a far superior room, on the second floor and without a balcony but it was worth it to get out of the standard room.
The rest of our stay can only be classed as inconsistent. With the exception of one waiter and one waitress we were treated with total indifference throughout our stay. In the buffet dining room we rarely had drinks delivered to our table at all. The restaurants were better, but not as speedy a service as the Spanish speaking guests received. The food in the buffet was not regularly replenished so it became a matter......

What can I say, but this is an awful hotel. The staff are rude and offensive and will only help if you tip well and all the time. The shop in the hotel charges what they want and when this was reported to the manager he said that the shop is nothing to do with them. The food is poor and when things were wrong and we spoke to people about this, no effort was made. They just had us waiting till we eventually left. Overall, this is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.

I have just come back from the Oasis Viva Beach Resort to find they weren't as nice and friendly I had read about on other websites. There were not many "english speaking" workers, so you can get things you need. Even having my book of spanish didn't get a message across to their employees. I found this hotel to not respect the fact we spent alot of money to come to the resort to be treated like we are nothing important, like we are just another number. Some of the food was good, but it seems to be very repetitive each day at the buffet. They need to let people know we can go to the one other resturant, "Los Dumas" for lunch. That would have made my stay for food a bit better.
If I were to go back to Cancun, I wouldn't be staying at this resort.

Mediocre food at best and many staff members acted like your food or drink was coming right out of their paycheck. I asked for water before restaurant opened at 7 a.m. and was told to buy it from the gift shop or go back to my room for water. Asked for milk in my coffee to take to my room and was told "no". It took 2 days to get safe to work and there was no electric outlet in the bathroom so had to plug in curling iron into mini kitchen outlet in other room. Waiter asked why the 3 teenage boys, their skinny mother and I weren't on a diet when we order an appetizer and dinner. I will NEVER go to this CHEESY joint AGAIN.
