Before I travelled to cancun I read a lot of reviews about the Moon Palace and was very concerned by the negative ones I came across. I have to say that our stay at the Moon Palace was by far the best vacation i have ever experienced! The staff were all extremely friendly and keen to help in anyway they could, our room was great, the pool was clean and the entertainment staff were hilarious! My only regret about my stay at Moon Palace is that I only stayed for a week! I will definitely be returning in the near future! If you are planning a trip there, please disregard those negative reviews and you will have an amazing experience also.

A. The hotel offers you coupons to the Spa, Golf Course, and gift shop if you agree to go to the time share presentation. HOWEVER....you do not HAVE to attend this, you do NOT HAVE to buy into these packages. My advice to you is, DO NOT go to the presentation if you do not want to hear a sales pitch. It's that easy!!! But if you want to earn your Coupons you have to go..it's that simple!

B. The food is not Gourmet....it is above average buffet/fixed menu fair. There are numerous places that are excellent such as the beach front grill which was offering prime cuts of Filet Mignon, NY Strip, and Porter house steaks to order! Personally, I think that is fairly impressive for an all inclusive. And although the food is not GOURMET, it is very fresh and tasty!! And there is a ton of it!!:) SO if you are going to enjoy a week of eating ALOT this is the place for you! You can eat at 2 different restaraunts a day and NEVER eat st the same place twice!

C. Drinks- There are SO many options and varieties! My advice on this is...find a bar, and a bartender that you like at the pool. Stick with him all week! This will assure your satisfaction on cocktails! They get to know your face and will continue to make your drinks exactly the way you like them! And here's a tip- TRY the drink of the day! They are delicious! And if worse comes to worse....order a MIAMI VICE (strawberry Daquiri layered on top of a pina coloda) Martinis and Vodka Collins are not their specialty.. Frozen concoctions are what Cancun is known for.... so stick with it! You won't be disappointed. :)

D. It's Cancun! If you don't like crowds, I recommend getting there on an off day like wed, thursday....You won't have a problem checking in early and you will def beat the crowds!

E. The rooms are so NEW! everything is marble and sandstone... the beds are comfy and clean with crispy Spa-esque linens and room controlled AC that kicks-butt! And huge 32" LCD screen tv that gets CNN, ESP,HBO, And Cinemax free! And you can make calls to the USA for free! THat means no cell phone usage!

F. Service- Seriously! The only thing I can complain about is the OVER zealousness of the staff. The front desk calls to follow up on every order you put in within minutes of you receiving it. Very Attentive!

G. SPA.....Fabulous!

So.... Overall, I give this hotel an 8. Only because I have traveled ALOT in my life and the only thing that beats this place is staying at a 5 star that isn't all inclusive where you can go out to dinner (and pay $$$$$$) at gourmet restaurants. It's great! It's luxurious and upgrading to Ocean View is SOOOOO worth it!!!! Treat yourself...You're worth it!

This has got to be the best holiday ever. The staff were the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Our rep was great, VERY helpful. We stayed in the Nizuc side and we were very glad as the food was nicer and the pool area was much quieter. The rooms were great also. Would definitely go again.....soon!

We stayed at this resort a few years ago. It was the best experience we ever had. This time, however, we were very disappointed. The resort is showing signs of wear and tear - patching job around the shower didn't look professional. They suckered us into listening to their "sales pitch". We did receive $100 Palace money that we used at their gift shop - but it stole almost 5 hours of our time away. We will never do that again....They told us no pressure, but by the end of the speech, they were being absolutely beligerant to us...we had to actually demand that we receive what was promised to us at the beginning. It was like Jeckyl and Hyde. That was our 2nd day there - the rest of the vacation went well. Please take my advice - go there and have a great time eating their food and drinking their booze - don't give them any of your hard earned money for purchasing vacation weeks - you can find great deals to stay there on the internet despite what they tell you.

My wife and I celebrated out 4th anniversary here and had a great time. We were treated well and our room was very clean and spacious. We enjoyed the pools and the outdoor shows. The food was very good and the staff was very friendly and hard working. This is definitely a place to come to for complete pampering and relaxation. All inclusive is the best way to go!:)

Our first impression was disappointing. The drive into the resort, the entrance, and the main lobby, were to me, nothing special. I expected alot more from a 4 star resort. We arrived early (about 11:oo... check-in was 3:00)to hugh crowds everywhere! We were given wrist bands and told we could begin partaking of all the food and drinks we wanted. Because this was our first experience with the "All inclusive thing" or this resort, and because we didn't yet have a room, we felt a little lost in this crowded, and massive new place. We were told we could leave our lugguge in the lobby (along with several other peoples lugguge) to go eat or go to the pool. We were uncomfortable leaving our lugguge, (we didn't see anyone watching it) but we weren't willing to wheel it around with us either. We reluctantly left the lugguge to go see the highly anticipated "Cancun Beach". The sand was a beautiful white powder and the water was clear but no one was in the water and only a few were on the beach. Again, we were disappointed. There was seaweed in the water near the shore. Our daughter didn't even want to put her feet in.
In the 5 days that we were there, I only saw a couple of people go in the water.
We got in our room about 4:00, (after a hassle.) We had requested a king size bed for my husband and myself, and a roll-away for our daughter. We received two double beds (SMALL doubles... and we never did request a change). We just didn't want the hassle after waiting 4 hours to get our room. We also requested a ocean view room which we got, but I expected close to the beach, our ocean view was at quite a distance. Our room was nice, but slightly run down and the location was quite a hike from the main areas of restaurants and the pools.
The following day, we found a note on our door apologizing for not giving us our welcome package when we arrived. This "Welcome package" provided very helpful information about the property, along with maps, and a recommendation to take a 1 1/2 hour sales tour of the resort (To promote their time share) They told us we would get a lot of free stuff for going. (We declined.) Other guests told us the tour was more than 1 1/2 hours and they were pressured.
After the first day, the crowds seemed to thin out and the chaos of our arrival seemed to calm down. (and I think we began lowering our overall expectations.)
The food although beautifully displayed, was mediocre at best. They had a lot of food I didn't ever want to try. Room service was prompt, and they had shimp cocktail and smoked salmon on the menu, but I only sampled a small bite of each and never order it again. The shimp cocktail was bland and tasteless and the smoked salman... too fishy. And the desserts... they only looked good. My daughter didn't like any of the ice cream she tried.
Service was friendly and pretty good.
Having said all this, once we settled in, we had a good time. I should tell you we met several people that visit Moon Palace regularly and rave about the place, and several people that bought into the time share. So, just put this review in prospective with all the rest.
In conclusion, after the first day and a half we did become comfortable and relaxed. (and actually wished we could have stayed for a few more days.) We never plan to visit Moon Palace or Cancun again. Theres just too many other places to see!

My husband and I stayed at moon palace from 19th feb 08 for my 40th birthday. This was the best holiday we have ever had, moon palace is excellent, clean, staff are so friendly cant do enough for you the hotel has everything you could want to keep you entertained the food was top class there are 14 restaurants to choose from. We can't wait to return to moon palace with are kids as its very child friendly. We highly recommend moon palace. There are free coaches twice a day into cancun and there other hotels. The beach at moon palace was great too. the rooms and service were excellent are fridge was filled daily with drinks. There is water sports on the beach which were very good.

The buildings are nice and the help was overall very friendly. However, this was offset by less than good food on too many occasions in the buffets, desserts and restaurants in general. The bartenders had very little consistency when you ordered a drink in different places. There were also basically no sailboats available to use as they were nearly all broken and had no plans to repair them soon unfortunately.

TRAVEL AT YOUR OWN RISK

My wife and two other family members decided to vacation at the moon palace, because a family member recommended the place to us. She loved the place so much that she actually bought a vacation club package. Now when we first arrived to the moon palace, it wasn't that impressive at all. I was actually disappointed, but I tried to be optimistic about it. So when got to our rooms we loved it, because there's a Jacuzzi in the room (who wouldn't love that). I have to admit that the rooms are nice, if you're on the right end of the resort. The resort just built a new part, so if you're on the old side you will be disappointed. So if you decide to go which I wouldn't recommend, to which I'll explain later. Please ask them to place you on the newer side. Anyway, later on that day I was presented to go on a vacation club seminar (DO NOT GO). So, long story short I bought the vacation club package. That was the biggest mistake of our lives, because they kept us at the presentation so long we missed our chance to book our excursions and the whole week was almost booked. So that set our vacation back a whole day (a whole day is a big deal if you work 19 hours a day, the vacation was needed, everyday counts) so we had to reschedule the entire week. Then we started to eat the food and it wasn't that great at all. We also rented a car and the guy gave away our rental after he told us he was going to hold it. Also they have a shuttle service to take you around the resort and the guy went right by us and didn't come back. The beach is covered with seaweed, so people really don't go to the beach there. The list goes on and on, so we decided to tell the management about our problems and the manager gave us no respect at all. So we all decided to cancel the vacation club package because it was definitely a mistake to buy here or vacation here. So now we are back in the states waiting for our refund and the management will not call or e-mail us to get our money back. We might have to seek legal actions against them. But anyway, please if your reading this, do not waste your time at this place. I wasn't the only one who didn't have a good time there. I met these people who had ants at there wedding at this resort and the front desk gave them the run around. So go at your discretion, but keep in mind if you have a problem, they will not help you. I'm still trying to get our money back and it's been almost 2 months now. So travel safe and good luck good.

Top Local Tips for Cancun

Palace Resorts not all bad You may find that Cancun Palace or Sun Palace have more favorable ammenties and location for fun in the sun and beautiful beaches.

Airport taxi Be careful if you use a taxi from airport. In the airport we were told at information the taxi rate should be $45, if you do not get an "official" taxi, they will claim it is a higher rate (told us $5 more) due to airport taxes!

Isla Mujeres Go on your own. Taxi from the Moon for $25, water taxi for $7/pp, golf car for $45 lunch at the palace resort, check out the south side, hang at north beach for the afternoon, sunset dinner at Sunset Grille
