Top Local Tips for Cancun

Use the bus! The bus service in Cancun is very safe and affordable. Use it! It's truly the best way to get around town. If you want to travel from the Cancun hotel zone to Playa Del Carmen, do this: Take the R-1 bus from the hotel zone to the downtown ADO station. When you arrive to the ADO station, take an ADO bus straight to Playa Del Carmen. The ADO buses are motor coaches, VERY comfy, and even show a movie during the trip. Allow 2 hours total from the hotel zone to Playa Del Carmen via this method of travel. Total cost (Sept 2007 prices were) -- .65 USD for the R-1 bus to downtown and $3.60 USD for the bus to Playa Del Carmen. So, round trip for one person was $4.20. Compare that price to the $80-$90 it would have cost to take a cab! Yikes!

Fiesta Americana Vacation Club Villas in Cancun I would rate this as a 3 star resort, in the style of an older Mexican resort hotel like the original Melia hotels converted to a time share property. The staff is friendly and helpful and it has the feel of a small hotel. The hotel pool was sufficient to accomodate most of the families, but in two deep rows of lounges. The beach area has many Cabanas, clustered close together, and a cement platform and sidewalk. You can walk a short distance to the sandy areas on either side of it, but they are fronting other hotels. We toured the Coral Beach, and that would be much preferred. It is 5 star, clearly superior. You can use the beach and pool areas if you are a FAVC guest. Worst complaint, the 1 BR plus studio unit has only one bathroom, with a single sink. Location is good if you want to go without a car and walk to malls and restaurants. If you have been to FAVC Cabo, I would rate that a 4 star. If you have been to HGVC in Breckenridge, I would rate that a 4 star.
