Not into the Cancun club scene? If you're not into the Cancun club scene and are going to the Yucatan for the Mayan ruins, beaches, diving, snorkelling, cenotes, and other geographical and cultural attractions, bypass Cancun and stay in Akumal or Playa Del Carmen. For us there was nothing of interest around Cancun - everything we wanted to see was 1 to 1.5 hours down the coast. So, we wasted a lot of time and money travelling down to the coast. This pretty much negated the cost savings of being at the Imperial Laguna. If you have some extra time and can rent a car, do also visit Valladolid - a charming colonial town about 1.5 hours from Tulum. Really nice!!!!!

Make sure you see... Put a day aside to visit Xcaret - an eco theme park. It is full of amaxing animals and you have the chance to go snorkelling in an undergrund river :)
