I have just returned from this resort, for a family reunion vacation and I would NEVER ever recommend this motel to anyone - they do absolutely nothing as promised and as paid for!! We had 2 adults and 2 along with 2 children, and paid for 2 beds -- you get one bed and a very small couch -- I would return to Cancun but never to this hotel - the food is nothing to brag about and ofcourse, the red flags are up every day and you cannot swim in the ocean because of their homemade beach - which is a joke!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Our hotel room ceiling collapsed on us!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights (from June 29 - July 4 2009). We had several problems with the hotel. When we arrived, they gave us room 2132, which smelled of mold. We asked to switch rooms, but they said we couldn't because there were no rooms available. After complaining several times, they switched us to room 2432, which was freshly painted. We decided to stay in room 2432, because we thought the smell of paint was better than the smell of mold. We did not want to complain again because we did not want to be difficult customers.

We did not get one night of good sleep throughout our stay. The walls are very thin and you can hear anyone walking or talking in the hallways. We discovered that placing a towel under the door helped with the noise level. Early in the morning, we were woken every day by very loud construction.

On Thursday night, our hotel room ceiling collapsed at 2 in the morning. There was debris everywhere and our luggage/belongings were damaged. We called the front desk but nobody answered. When we went to the front desk and showed the staff member (Angel) our pictures of the collapsed ceiling, he did not seem shocked. He asked if we wanted a new room. We said we needed a new room right away, and we told him to give us an upgrade. He said the only upgrade he could give us was a room with an ocean view. He told us to sign the upgrade form, but the form he gave us was not about a room upgrade. It was a disclaimer form saying we would agree not to make any claims against the hotel. We explained we could not sign the form because our belongings were damaged. He said he gave us the wrong form, and showed us another form listing the room upgrade. In small print, this form also had the disclaimer wording. Again, we explained that our belongings were damaged so we could not sign this form. He got frustrated and switched our room.

The next morning, we spoke to the manager. We explained that we had bought $85 of souvenirs the previous day at Market 28. The manager said he could not do anything about the damaged belongings because we did not have any receipts for our souvenirs. We asked for a refund, but the manager said he could not give us a refund because we had booked through Expedia and not the hotel directly. The manager offered us a free massage at the spa (good for one person only) and a room upgrade, but only if we signed the disclaimer form. We plan to sue the hotel so we did not sign the form.

We had several other problems with the hotel besides the poor service from the front desk staff and the issues with our rooms. We bought an all inclusive package, which included all food and drinks for the week. The drinks are very poorly made. They have no alcohol in them and are watered down. The waitresses were also very slow in bringing us our drinks. The food was also very bad. The last 3 days of our trip I had a stomach ache. The pool is very dirty and is not cleaned. There is a thick layer of oil on the surface of the pool. The plastic chairs that they place in the pool for people to lie down on have turned yellow because of some residue. There is a foot bath where you can wash sand off your feet. We saw the hotel staff scooping out the sand instead of changing out the water. Everyday, we got harassed by people trying to make us attend a timeshare presentation. They offered to give us 500 pesos, but we discovered that they would not give us cash. They would give us a gift certificate that we could use at the hotel. We found this not useful, because we had already paid for an all inclusive package.

My Co-worker and I just arrived back from a seven day stay at the Gran Caribe Real, and we had the most fabulous time ever. Since January when we booked our reservations I have been reading all comments that have been posted, and I cannot belive that anyone would have anything negative to say about this place. It was paradise. The staff, lifeguards, everyone was extremely nice and very accomodating, I did not want to leave. I will be returning to Cancun and the Gran Caribe Real as soon as I can. To all from the state of Michigan, have fun relax and get ready to meet the best staff and vacationers ever!!!

the staff in the hotel are great a lot of things to do. The girls in the kids club are very friendly with the kids, and the pools are very clean. My kids loved the pirate ship and the castle they had, we had so much fun in there. there were not to many people in the pools so they had a blast. the bad things are the BEACH there is to many rocks in the sand and if u do not know how to swim is not so good since the beach is kinda deep, not so good for little kids either, take water shoes if u can. The food is the same every day very little variety, breakfast was the best meal we had but lunch and dinner after the second day can be very boring. OHHHH!!!! and be very carful with the timeshare people they WILL hunt you down daily unitl u agree to go see the other hotel, the royal, they promise u so many things so you can agree to go, like a bag and money so u can spend in the stores inside the hotel, but like yall know when they mean FREE GIFTS there is always a BIG CATCH nothing in this world is free, we made the mistake of going and we had a VERY bad time since we said NO to the timesaher they were very rude all they want is for u to agree and BUY.

Upon arriving at this hotel we found the hotel located in a wonderful location, close to alot of hot spots. Problem we had along with MANY others was our 3 rooms (6 people) we booked were not available. They overbooked the hotel! After talking to others we found out that this is a history with this hotel. They did put us up in wonderful hotel way down the beach approx 5+ miles which to our surprise ended up being a much better hotel as it had more pools, resturants and activities and alot less people. Even had an all adult bar and pool area. We were able to come back to this hotel to relax, eat and shop just not stay. Food was good here not alot of variety from day to day. Shops in this and our hotel were better than shopping downtown where we normally shop. So check out the hotel shopping as it is not too expensive. This hotel is very busy so if you want alot of all aged people around you. Stay here just beware you may not have a room at check in!!!!

My fiance and I just came back from Cancun today after a five day stay at the GRAN CARIBE REAL RESORT. We did not know what to expect from this fine establishment due to it being a 5 star resort and we decided to stay there due the great introduction price due to construction currently going on. We are average every day middle class U.S. citizens with not alot to spend on accommodations. Since we were paying a far lower rate than to be expected we were concerned of the service that we might be given. If we had been given less than upper class service, I would not have written this review due to that we paid a very fair price to stay at an upper class resort. We were BOTH utmost surprised with the service that we received in ALL areas of the resort as listed in the 6 ratings above. In fact, I had originally requested a king size bed but when we wanted a room closer to a couple we went there with, we were given two double beds. ( all that was available due our request). I found out I was unable to sleep comfortably in this shorter bed due to me being 6'4" and then requested another room anywhere with a King. WOW !!! We were upgraded to a room on the 5th floor with three wonderful views.... two ocean views and a lagoon view. This resort is near the tip of the peninsular thereby affording the ocean view on two sides from our particular room. I easily say this was one of the best view rooms available to ANY Hotel in the area!!!! Now on to the service... everyone from the bellhop, the front desk, the waiters in the restaurants, room service, activity people, EVERYONE absolutely made us feel like ROYALTY. I hate to bore you with further details. You KNOW that I am sitting here SMILING as I write this. I may not be able to afford this sort of living once the construction is finished being that it IS a five start establishment, but it certainly has been among the top vacations of my life thus far without question. As I end this, if you like great service, great food, great drinks, and so on.... this is definitely deserving of it's FIVE STAR DESIGNATION.

Had a really lovely stay at this hotel everything was great! The food, rooms, bars, restaurants were good! The staff were fabulous apart from the reception staff when we first checked in but overall really really fabulous. The hotel was really clean as was the pools etc. The only thing I would say is I would have preferred the pool and the pool area to be a little bigger. Cancun is amazing as is this hotel you'll love it!!!
