My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights (from June 29 - July 4 2009). We had several problems with the hotel. When we arrived, they gave us room 2132, which smelled of mold. We asked to switch rooms, but they said we couldn't because there were no rooms available. After complaining several times, they switched us to room 2432, which was freshly painted. We decided to stay in room 2432, because we thought the smell of paint was better than the smell of mold. We did not want to complain again because we did not want to be difficult customers.
We did not get one night of good sleep throughout our stay. The walls are very thin and you can hear anyone walking or talking in the hallways. We discovered that placing a towel under the door helped with the noise level. Early in the morning, we were woken every day by very loud construction.
On Thursday night, our hotel room ceiling collapsed at 2 in the morning. There was debris everywhere and our luggage/belongings......

My Co-worker and I just arrived back from a seven day stay at the Gran Caribe Real, and we had the most fabulous time ever. Since January when we booked our reservations I have been reading all comments that have been posted, and I cannot belive that anyone would have anything negative to say about this place. It was paradise. The staff, lifeguards, everyone was extremely nice and very accomodating, I did not want to leave. I will be returning to Cancun and the Gran Caribe Real as soon as I can. To all from the state of Michigan, have fun relax and get ready to meet the best staff and vacationers ever!!!

the staff in the hotel are great a lot of things to do. The girls in the kids club are very friendly with the kids, and the pools are very clean. My kids loved the pirate ship and the castle they had, we had so much fun in there. there were not to many people in the pools so they had a blast. the bad things are the BEACH there is to many rocks in the sand and if u do not know how to swim is not so good since the beach is kinda deep, not so good for little kids either, take water shoes if u can. The food is the same every day very little variety, breakfast was the best meal we had but lunch and dinner after the second day can be very boring. OHHHH!!!! and be very carful with the timeshare people they WILL hunt you down daily unitl u agree to go see the other hotel, the royal, they promise u so many things so you can agree to go, like a bag and money so u can spend in the stores inside the hotel, but like yall know when they mean FREE GIFTS there is always a BIG CATCH nothing in this......

Upon arriving at this hotel we found the hotel located in a wonderful location, close to alot of hot spots. Problem we had along with MANY others was our 3 rooms (6 people) we booked were not available. They overbooked the hotel! After talking to others we found out that this is a history with this hotel. They did put us up in wonderful hotel way down the beach approx 5+ miles which to our surprise ended up being a much better hotel as it had more pools, resturants and activities and alot less people. Even had an all adult bar and pool area. We were able to come back to this hotel to relax, eat and shop just not stay. Food was good here not alot of variety from day to day. Shops in this and our hotel were better than shopping downtown where we normally shop. So check out the hotel shopping as it is not too expensive. This hotel is very busy so if you want alot of all aged people around you. Stay here just beware you may not have a room at check in!!!!

My fiance and I just came back from Cancun today after a five day stay at the GRAN CARIBE REAL RESORT. We did not know what to expect from this fine establishment due to it being a 5 star resort and we decided to stay there due the great introduction price due to construction currently going on. We are average every day middle class U.S. citizens with not alot to spend on accommodations. Since we were paying a far lower rate than to be expected we were concerned of the service that we might be given. If we had been given less than upper class service, I would not have written this review due to that we paid a very fair price to stay at an upper class resort. We were BOTH utmost surprised with the service that we received in ALL areas of the resort as listed in the 6 ratings above. In fact, I had originally requested a king size bed but when we wanted a room closer to a couple we went there with, we were given two double beds. ( all that was available due our request). I found......
