Before traveling I researched this hotel and found many reviews to be confusing and a bit misleading like the one from Paul from United Kingdom given at this site, who rated the hotel an 8 but seemed displeased with many things. I stayed there anyway since most reviews I read were good. I'm glad I did choose the Golden Crown. Here are the best reasons for choosing Golden Crown Paradise.
1. The Food. It was excellent in every one of the four restaurants. I highly recommend the steak at the Old Barn Restaurant, the Cheeseburgers at the Pool snack bar, the Lobster at Shangri-La. The shrimp at the Pier Restaurant, and the custom made omlets in the buffet restaurant for breakfast. We went out to eat twice and regretted not staying at the hotel for dinner.
2 The Service. I tipped sometimes and sometimes I didn't. I received the same cordial treatment and good service whether I did or didn't. Upon arrival I complained to the front desk concerning a dirty bed spread in the room, and both beds were stripped and replaced immediately with new bed linen.
3. The Activities. Pool and beach volley ball, yoga, aerobics, nightly outings to nightclubs. Neither the music or the activity directors were too loud around the pool area. They made announcements for about 2 minutes about 4 times a day just before volleyball, aerobics, etc. The music around the pool was relatively quiet and mostly American. The activity directors were friendly and helped those who wanted to have a good time to do so. They were calling me by name by the 2nd day. Also, massages were great and fairly cheap. $60 for one $100 for 2 (if you ask for it)
4. The Drinks. Well made and plenty strong. The bartenders will make whatever and however you want it. They remember what you drink with exceptional skill. Not all liquors are top shelf brands (some are) but everything I ordered was good. If you're really that discriminating about branded liquor, you should bring your own (and get a life and sign up for A.A. while you're at it)
The Beach. Spectacular colors, quite, smooth, clean, No beggars, only a couple of times approached by locals selling silver jewelry, which looked nice but I didn't want it and so they left. The ocean waves and current were occasionally strong which made for great body and boogie board surfing. Conditions changed almost hourly from calm and smooth to fairly rough. By the way, note to Paul from the U.K., Reality check...there are shells and pieces of coral in the surf, on the beach, and on the ocean floor all over the world, probaby even England. Maybe you should stick to a baby pool somewhere. If you're looking for no current, no waves, no coral, no shells etc. try Disney World not a real beach.
The Location. It is located in a very nice area situated directly between the Ritz-Carlton and Le Meridian (Where Bush stayed recenly on his visit to Cancun)It was just a short bus ride about 5 minutes and $.60 to all the hot spots in town. Buses come about every 3 minutes non-stop 24/7. Of course taxis are also everywhere.
One negative (for me anyway)...the beds are all extra firm, which you may get used to after about 3 nights. However, you might want to bring a thin foam pad if you really hate a firm bed.
Some DON'Ts....
Don't talk to time-share vultures
Don't waste your time at Xel-Ha Eco-water preserve. The snorkeling there is ok but there are many other activities you could spend your money and time on that don't take up an entire day of your vacation.
Don't expect lifestyles of the rich and famous...just standard hotel accomodations, good service, great food, and a nice environment with friendly people.
I've have been to many all-inclusives. This was absolutely the best food. Since I did not stay in the luxury suites there, I cannot comment except to say that those I spoke to who did stay in the luxury suites were very pleased with the extra aminities of the in-room liquor and water dispensors, hot tub, ocean view, and extra space. I wish I had chosen to upgrade for just a bit more in price.

My wife and I had our honeymoon at the GCP and everything was great. The food, staff, hotel, and weather were great. We are returning in April 2006.

GCPS is like a secret you want to keep to yourself. The staff is very courteous and helpful. The beverages and food at this all inclusive is very good. If you don't think one portion is enough - order 2! It's right next door to the Ritz. It is All adult meaning no one under 18. That doesn't mean it's a wild place - just no screaming/crying kids/babies which is great if you're wanting to get away from that on your vacation. We've stayed other places in Cancun & this is the one we like the best!

We stayed from 7th Sept til 21st Sept, 2005
Who stole all of the umbrella's from around the pools, not one to be had. We went through six bottles of factor 30 lotion and still fried. Also why does nobody mention the BOOM BOOM music that is played constantly all day long. Read a book, listen to your own MP player forget it. All of the entertainment staff love the sound of their own voice and shout into the micophone so they cannot be understood. Other than that the holiday was great. Food was exceptional and Waynes Boots deserves a special mention. Unable to swim in the sea due to large sharp rocks located next to the hotel and the fast currents stopped you from swimming out to far once you got past the rocks. Red Flag always flying.
