First of all the hotel is physically fairly new and the bathroom was very elegant. The air conditioning was excellent. The towels newer and clean. The hotel physically is attractive.
The problem with the hotel was the food, service and attitude and lack of training of the employees. I arrived with my mother and my husband . My mother has cancer and always dreamed of visiting Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo and the famous Mayan ruins in that region of the world. I am an extensive Mexico traveller. I have travelled to Durango, Chihuahua, Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Baja California Norte, Baja California Sur, Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, off islands like Holbox, Mexico City, Guerrero, Monterrey, and many other states in Mexico except for Oaxaca and Tabasco and Nayarit and a couple of others. I consider myself a well-seasoned traveller and my native language is Spanish. The staff at this hotel was far and away the least trained, most surly, and least professional I have come accross in Mexico.
We arrived in the dining room about 30 minutes before closing and were rudely told that there wasn't anything to eat and to please go somewhere else. The front desk person a woman, wanted to charge us for things we did not consume. Principally beer and some kind of cakes. They had failed to charge the previous occupants who were teens or something for the items and wanted to unjustly tack it on to our bill. They were unsimiling and discourteous and the front desk woman looked at my credit union debit card like it was forged. When asked about points of interest they pointed to some brochures and did not even speak to us. The employees rushed into our room as soon as we trying to check out and they communicated via walkie talkie to the front desk about the missing items and we were accused of being 'theives'. It was straightened out but no apology was offered. The parking lot attendants weren't very helpful and seemed to not care if our car was parked properly or not. We asked for an iron and no one responded. The costs for laundry was exhorbitant even for a stateside hotel much less one in Mexico---and we went out of our way to go to a local laundromat to avoid the surly attitude.
This hotel needs DESPERATELY TO GET SOME CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED MANAGEMENT. I think many employees are there for nepotism or some other non-professional reason and have no clue what they are doing. They are highly rude, confused, untrained and suspicious of the customers and guests that are their bread and butter and if they don't straighten their issues out will be promptly out of business.
Physically the hotel is very pleasant and nice. The service though is what really makes a hotel a great experience and this one really was very inferior.
