Horrible time at the Melia San Lucas

My best friend and I just got back from our annual Girls Trip to Cabo. This was the 4th time we stayed at the Melia San Lucas and over the last 4 years we have invited more and more of our friends to spend the Memorial Day weekend with us at the Melia. Unfortunately 2006 was nothing like the previous years. The Melia is undergoing some serious renovations, but it is losing its charm. We booked our trip in January and the Melia charged my credit card. When we arrived at the hotel after a long plane ride, we found out that the Hotel was overbooked and the manager told us that they will not honor our reservation - irregardless how often we stayed with them and how many other people were staying at the hotel per our recommendation. He offered for us to stay at the other Melia "Only 3 minutes away!" - he said. But we were not fooled, as we passed the other Melia about 20 miles away from the Melia San Lucas and the center of town so we told the manager to stop treating us like idiots. Furthermore, the hotel staff told us that staying at the Melia San Lucas is the "luck of the draw" and nobody is ever totally confirmed irregardless of when they make reservations or how much they paid. Well they have just lost about 35 yearly returning guests due to this treatment. On another note: - while the renovations are very nice, the hotel lost its Mexican character. It is aiming to be a Four Seasons, but it is not going to make it. If I want to go to a Nuveau Martini Bar or a Nuveau Hotel, I would stay at the "W" and choose to go to NY or SFO not Cabo San Lucas. The music was terrible at the bar and at Nikki beach and put everyone asleep. The hotel staff was overall very unfriendly and snooty (few exceptions noted) and the food and bottled water was outrageously expensive. Unfortunately I am no longer going to recommend the Melia San Lucas in Cabo, Mexico to anyone in the future.
