Top Local Tips for Acapulco
Prepare for the soviet airport experience Acapaluco airport is no Puerto Vallarta. The arrival and departure facilities are run down. I counted 7 of the 15 retail spaces in the airside departure lobby as vacant. There is only one fast food dining option and it is neither fast nor food. After waiting 30 minutes for my burger after ordering, one bite told me it was not beef. We disposed of our food away and ate lunch from the packaged snacks at the one magazine stand. It reminded me of US airports from when I was a kid when each vendor had a monopoly for their product and the quality, service, and cleanliness showed they had no competition. EAT BEFORE YOU GO TO THE AIRPORT!
Cliff divers You can see the cliff divers from the hotel there. For $14 you get two drinks and can watch them from the bar or for $24 you get one drink, lunch (burger, club sandwich or tacos) and you can watch them from the restaurant or for $40 you get dinner and can watch them from the restaurant. They are worth seeing but do not last very long and it is hot in the sun, so go for the cheaper options to see them (drinks or lunch), we did lunch and it was worth it, glad we did not do dinner.
Arrival at the airport Watch out for the very friendly people at the airport who appear to want to help you get to your destination. The are setting you up to come and listen to a 90 min presentation for a timeshare. They show you the beautiful new resort and then work up the paper for some place you've never seen or heard of. Everything is all about a hustle. Watch out and keep your eyes and ears open!!
