Lovely, it was wonderful

We stayed at the Maison for 3 nights, and found it to be clean, extremely comfortable and very much like coming home. Marielle greets you warmly, and always had a pot of hot water ready for our tea in the evenings. She kindly let us use her computer to check our emails, and there was muffins for a light breakfast. We found our room to be clean, and nicely decorated.

Just returned from 4 nites at the Maison. Our room was lovely and Marielle was a dear, helping me with ice and solicitous concern when I sprained my ankle (beware , Battlefield Park is still very slippery and snowy out there!) She also helped us in many other ways, and between her warmth and the cozy kitties, it felt like a home away from home and was a charming experience. (My only caveat is that there is construction going on behind the Maison right now and they start EARLY so if you can get a room that is quieter and/or not facing that area, I'd suggest it)

I'm back from Quebec city where I spent a few days in the beautiful and peaceful Maison du Fort. I was there before and I'll be back again. All the rooms were very clean and also all very unique. The decor makes you feel at home, not to mention the beautiful sight looking out the windows in rooms 11 and 10 where I was each time I went. Two calm and cudly cats await you in the entrance as you begin or end your day walking around, in the heart of Vieux-Quebec. Maison du Fort is so well located that you can walk to the best spots in town only within a few minutes. Highly recommended.

My wife and my two young boys just spent a week here and found it excellent. It is not all swanky like a major hotel. Just small, cozy, comfortable, convenient, immaculate and friendly. It has only 9 rooms or so but they all looked brand new. Hard wood floors, nice new furniture and the feel of character you get from a restored old manse.

Our hostess, was extraordinarily helpful and friendly. Having satisfied customers is obviously important to her. You read about the cats in the reviews and I was a bit worried about that beforehand thinking that there might be cat hair or smell about. That was really just not the case. I did not so much as find a single cat hair on anything and I barely saw them at all (much to the dismay of my boys who were always looking for them). No smell either.

The hotel is very well located, close to the Terrsse Dufferin and easy walk (even in the sub-freezing weather we were there in) to the other parts of Vieux Quebec.

I could not recommend this place any more highly. Also, I expect its good for young couples; very romantic as well.

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of staying in room 1 for Carnivale 2005. There are not enough good things i can say about this beautiful little hotel. It felt like a B&B because we felt as if we were welcomed into Marielle's home. She is very inviting and made the experience feel like home away from home. The location is great, a few steps away from everything, yet far enough away to offer peace and quiet when you go back 'home'. There are two cute resident cats who are very friendly and wait for you to return for the night.
If you decided to make the trip to Vieux-Quebec, do yourself a favour and enjoy the Hotel Du Fort, you wont be sorry.

This was our second stay at Maison du Fort. We were greeted by Marielle and led to our oversized, wonderfully appointed room. After a day of walking, xcountry skiing and attending carnival events, the Maison du Fort was a warm, welcome sight. Thank you Marielle.

Our stay for the New Year (Bonne Annee 2005) was unforgettable! Marielle has made the Maison a warm and inviting establishment. The rooms are beautifully decorated with attention to the finest detail. She is a friendly hostess and was able to provide useful information about the area. Our room had a winter view of the St. Lawrence and the location of the hotel is in walking distance of all. We left the car parked for our entire four day stay. We recommend the Maison du Fort without hesitation and would return again ourselves.

This b&b is right where you want it to be, close to everything but far enough away from loud traffic. The rooms are beatifully decorated and you're welcomed by two friendly cats upon entering, what more can you ask for. The owner is friendly, knowlegable and very helpful. Stay here and you won't be dissappointed.

This hotel is a must stay for anyone travelling to Quebec city.(We are late posting this review, we stayed here in July 2004). Marielle is an excellent hostess and goes out of her way to make you feel at home. Location is spot on as all attractions are within walking distance. This hotel is by far the best we have ever stayed at. We enjoyed our morning coffee and pastries as well as the friendly cats and warm hospitality. We stayed in four different rooms as the others were booked up and then returned a week later for one last night in this charming hotel. If you go to Quebec this should be at the top of list as a place to stay. Darin and Lyla

Perfect location, lovely decor, superb attention paid to all details. While the feeling was that of a top class hotel, there was also a sense that we were staying with family, as the owner Marielle was so welcoming. We felt comforable in every way at Maison du Fort. An outstanding hotel experience!

Top Local Tips for Quebec City

All are brilliant. This was a long-awaited trip that had to be postponed due to my major foot surgery last September. My husband's father's side of the family hails from the Montreal/Quebec City/Trois Rivieres area and our name garnered familiar acknowledgements from everyone we met. His French helped us considerably and my marginal language facility grew with each day. Montreal was grand, but Quebec City with its horse and buggy tour of the old city, period character-guided tour of and dinner at Chateau Frontenac, Isle d'Orelans, etc., etc. gave new meaning to the word "romance."

getting around Inside the walls of Quebec city everything is walking distance but be prepared. Everything is built on a hill.
