Excellent rate with spectacular view

My daughter stayed in the Loews during her Grade 8 graduation trip & highly recommended this hotel & since I could get an excellent CAA/AAA rate of $120.60, I had no hesitancy of booking 2 rooms there for July 4, 2004.

I joined the Loews First hotel program in advance & was upgraded from the 7th to the 23rd floor without any additional charges (usually $50 per room). The views of the 2 rooms were spectacular, one facing the Battlefield Park & St. Lawrence River and the other had the River view with the Citadel, Old Quebec & Chateau Frontenac.
Upon ckeck-in, I got numerous discount dining coupons (15% off for breakfast buffet & 25% off for dinner at L'Astral, the award-winning revolving restaurant).

We had a lovely Sunday Brunch at L'Astral & really enjoyed the view of Quebec while eating. Food varieties were OK but the quality was pretty good. 3-course dinner started at $19.50 & was well worth the price with the discount coupon - way cheaper than eating fondues!!

Valet parking was $19 but service was pretty efficient. Parking in Old Quebec was only $6 which I think was quite affordable. The walk along the Boardwalk outside Chateau Frontenac & the little "artistic" streets in Old Quebec were worth the stroll.

Loews average but good price

We recently stayed at the Loews to attend a conference and after reading several differing positive and negative reviews, we found the hotel to be satisfactory. Yes, it is definitely dated and in need of refurbishing in the lobby/common areas, but everyone was friendly and helpful and the room was fine - clean, quiet, with all the usual amenities and terrific views. It is about a 5-10 minute walk to the touristy old town, uphill on your way back, but still moderately convenient and if you're into bar hopping on the Grand Allee a perfect location. If you don't like to walk stay inside the old city walls. We found a great rate on Expedia which did make it a good value. If I had paid the regular rate ($175+) I would have expected more and would have been disappointed. Pool and fitness room are ok. Pass on the L'Astral restaurant for dinner- food was less than mediocre but the view was gorgeous and service good. To experience the view lunch would be a good option.

Lots of things to like about the Loews

The hotel is situated within a short enjoyable walk (10-15 minutes) to the city walls. The hotel is also situated right next to a strip of popular restaurants, cafes and clubs.

Price was also very reasonable (especially for the Loews chain) considering the price of the other higher scale hotels in the area.

Rooms were big and comfy, and the views were spectacular, especially when facing the Frontenac and the old city. I had a room on the 17th floor.

Pool, jacuzzi and other facilities on the 4th floor were also very good and put to good use.

We loved staying at the Loews Le Concorde. The hotel is situated near the Citadelle, overlooking the Plains of Abraham. We loved its location because all major attractions are within walking distance.

Our room was large, comfortable and very clean. All staff, from front desk to bell staff, were extremely friendly and helpful.

We ate breakfast in our room every morning- their room service breakfast is very good. We found that room service breakfast is cheaper than most restaurants and you get more food for the same amount of money.

We had a wonderful stay at the Loews Le Concorde!

Nice hotel, but....

My boyfriend and i went to Quebec on May 21st and stayed for 3 nights. We arrived by train from Toronto. A little long, but nice.

When we first arrived at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised, very nice. We checked in and were given a room with double beds, we were told they had no King beds left which was quite annoying, hard to have a romantic weekend sleeping in seperate beds. They told us to try again the next night. Besidesthe doubles beds our room was very nice and we had an awesome view of the Chateau Frontenac. The next day we tried to switch rooms, they kept telling us to try back later. Around 6pm the next night after asking them yet again, they told us to go to our room and they would call us, they didn't! I went back down to the dest 2 hours later, where they finally switched our rooms to a King bed.

All in all the hotel was very nice, the rooftop restaurant was very nice, we had brunch there, food was ok but i don't think worth what they charge for the brunch. Only thing i didn't like was the struggle to get a King bed, what we had requested months ago when booking. But go and have a great time!!!

Arrived on 12/31/03 for a three night stay with our family of five (two queen beds and a cot). Wonderful rate on last minute vacation. Location was fine. Winter wonderland outside, and got very cold one evening. Dressed warmly and enjoyed walking to a new restaurant each evening.

Stayed in top floor room (just below revolving restaurant) overlooking harbour. Wow! Watching some ships cut through the ice was magnificant!

One thing different: Lowes is a "Dog-friendly" hotel. So, you can bring your dog. Strange standing in the elevator and the person next to you is holding the lease of their dog. It was never a problem except for New Year's Eve when the owner of a dog left it in the room while he/she went out to celebrate and the dog barked until 3:00am. It wasn't a big deal and we didn't call guest services. We were tired and were getting up early to go skiing at Mount Saint Ann. No dogs bothered us for the rest of the trip.

I would love to go back when the weather is warmer. The walks were fun, but having to be so bundled up just to stay warm got real old fast.

All-in-all, a very nice hotel with a helpful staff (made dinner reservations for us each night, including last minute New Year's Eve ones) and great location.

Fantastic hotel and view

This was a fantastic hotel. The views of the old city and the river are wonderful. The old city is about 5-10 minutes away walking, but easily accessible. The fitness/rec area is excellent as well. It has a whirlpool, exercise equipment, and a heated pool. One touch that we appreciated was an always available juice machine in the rec room--orange, cranberry, lemon, and other juices were all on tap and of suprisingly good quality. The restaurant at the top of the hotel is a rotating restaurant. The dessert bar there at night is a terrific option. For $7 (US) you get to fill a plate with choices from the excellent dessert bar. Then you leisurely enjoy the desserts as the restaurant rotates and gives you some of the best views of Quebec City you will find. Parking can be expensive ($19 CN per night/valet/$17 CN per night/self park) but self parking is available on the street behind the hotel on meters and in a lot that is only $6 CN for 12 hours.

Great Hotel - good location

We (2 couples) loved this hotel. Our rooms were large and very clean. The staff was very friendly and the valet staff was extremely accomodating. Did not try any of the food/room service. Pretty good location right on the park, good food choices in the neighborhood, but a walk to downtown - better to drive and park. Would very much recommend this hotel. Great pricing C$107.00 directly on their WEB site.

I stayed here for a couple of nights in August 2003. The rooms were very comfortable and the staff was also very helpful. As much as they could be. While the rooms were nice, I felt that they were quite overpriced for the quality of service at the hotel. It's an old hotel, with no real charm and in dire need of renovations. You won't feel you're getting your money's worth. However, this didn't really make my stay a horrible one... I just felt a bit ripped off. My sister stayed in another room with my little nephew who required a crib. Before making reservations we were assured that we'd get a crib for the room but all that was provided was a ratty playpen. If you're dishing out this much money, I would consider another hotel.

Great Hotel, Beautiful City

I was very pleased with the Loew's Le Concorde Hotel during my stay in Quebec in early December. My room on the 21st floor had a gorgeous view of the Plains of Abraham and much more square footage than comparable rooms in a hotel of a higher price. Contrary to other reviews that I see posted here, the staff (doorman, front-desk, concierge, room-service) were all very accomodating whether I spoke english or attempted to speak french. The view from L'Astral, the revolving rooftop restaurant, was breathtaking. The breakfast from room service was delicious; I highly recommend the capital breakfast including the crepes in maple butter. All attractions really were a short walk (10 minutes) from the hotel (including Vieux Quebec and La Rue St. Jean).
This was the most impressive Loew's Hotel that I have seen.

Top Local Tips for Quebec City

Watch out for tourist restaurants...yuck Be wary of restaurants that have people standing outside trying to recruit diners...we went into an "italien" eatery that was horrible! I can't remember the name but it had awning that was red,white & green....horrible pizza & pasta- classic cheap tourist food.

Use the public transportation! My son and I walked everywhere and when the distance was too far, we used the bus, which was very easy to do. The cost was $2.50 per person. Exact change is required. The bus driver was very nice and told us exactly which stop we needed. A great way to do without the headache of driving in a different city.

quebec city symphony We stopped by the symphony hall and found out about a free performance by a 3 man group - drums, cello, and violin - it was amazing and the acoustics in the hall were impressive. Strongly recommend exploring this venue.
