Well kept downtown older hotel

If you want to site see in downtown Quebec city and want a hotel to stay near all of the historic sites at a reasonable price this is a good choice. It doesnt have a lot of flashy things like whirlpool , swimming pool, etc. but it does have a fairly good hotel cafe, with a local singer on some nights. Many of the local people were pleased that our highschool age daughter spoke fairly good french and converssed with here.

Excellent hotel! Highly Recommend!

This was our first time in Quebec City, chose this hotel based on reviews found here and other books! Amazing rooms, spotless, flat screen TV, nice linens very quiet. Great extras, like the magnified mirror in the bathroom, WiFi, breakfast basket hung on your door everyday. This hotel was within walking distance of everything, staff very friendly and helpful!

If I had to give a "con" , the parking is slightly a pain, you have to unload on the curb in front of the hotel, and then go park your car, parking is not far, just maneuvering around the city in a car is a bit frustrating when you've never been there before.

I would definitely stay here again!! Great hotel in a great city!!

Perfect Place to stay!

First time in Quebec City. When I began my search for a place to stay, I had a hard time trying to find a nice hotel at a good price and in a good location. Then I found L'Hotel du Vieux. The rooms were excellent! The service was excellent! The location was excellent! I cant say enough about this place. They made you feel very welcome and were there for any needs at all. Every day you were greated with a big smile and the rooms were cleaned to a perfection. The restaurant was great. We had pizza and the waiter remembered us from being there only one time before. I dont know if I will visit Quebec City again, but if I do, I will stay here!

Delightful hotel, excellent location in old part of Quebec City

Spacious, very clean, quiet, comfortable room. Gracious and helpful staff. Delicious breakfasts. Right in the middle of the upper part of the old, historic section of charming Quebec City - countless restaurants, cafes, museums, etc. just up and down the street and/or within an easy walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would definitely return on a future trip.

What a Great Stay!

We stayed at the L'Hotel du Vieux Quebec from August 18-August 20, 2006 - what a great experience. Our room seemed to be newly renovated and included a flat screen tv and spacious bed. Neither yself nor my boyfriend are fluent in French - however, the hotel staff was great about helping us find places to eat and sight see. Juliet, at the front desk, was particularly helpful and sweet - she really made our stay special.

Lovely hotel with bistro attached. Helpful staff; bilingual. Brkfst was included starting July 1st in the bistro. Room was very nice and clean. Parking is difficult and expensive in the old city; about $13 to park at this hotel per day. Streets are narrow and hilly with many of them one way. Many restaurants, shops and museums within walking distance. We made out fine without a rental car. Highly recommend this city and this hotel! What a great time we had.

This is a beautiful hotel. We had two rooms, 111 has a giant king bed and gorgeous bathroom and 203 fit our teenagers and younger children well. The staff is fantastidc, friendly, knowledgeable. The hotel is clean, and right in the thick of things in Old Town. We got breakfast coupons to eat in the little restaurant next door (they share a foyer) The breakfast was fine, you get three choices of food and the hours are 7:30 - 9:30. Beautiful inn, beautiful part of town.

I stayed at Hotel du Vieux Quebec for a week my son during his school winter break. We had a great. The room was perfect - large, clean and comfortable with everything you need. And we got an incredible deal. The hotel lounge was a bonus as most evenings after dinner we would head down and play a board game or cards by the fire. The staff were incredible friendly and helped pulled together a terrific intinerary with map and directions. Our trip included skiing of course (but don't go straight to Mount Ste. Anne or Stoneham - their are other hills that are cheaper and great for kids.), but also snowshoeing, dogsledding, tubing, ice-skating and sledging on the hills of Abraham (ask the front desk for a sledge - they had some they lent us.) The location of the hotel is ideal on St. Jean street where there are many restaurants and shops (as well as a video arcade when a father gets desperate!). The restaurant connected to the hotel had great food and was reasonably priced but was not open for breakfast which was a disappointment. We ended up going to the crepe restaurant down the street every morning - which got us up and going. We could have stayed at one of the ski resorts but I wanted my son and I to get a taste of the Quebec culture and there is no other better place to do that then in Old Quebec City - it's a beautiful city.

My traveling companion and I stayed here during the Winter Carnivale. The location was central to all events and well within staggering distant from several lively pubs. The room was clean, bright and even though it overlooked a busy street, quiet for sleeping. But the best part was the bistro...terrific menu for breakfast and dinner. Despite the fact that we dined in a fairly elegant setting one of the nights, we enjoyed our meals here much more. The convivial atmosphere was infectious. The last night of our stay we returned to the hotel exhausted and starving. We were disappointed that the bistro was packed. However, our server from breakfast (yes, he was still on duty) recognized us. He told us to go relax in our room for a short while and he'd have a table ready for us. Sure enough, after unloading our heavy clothing we returned and had a memorable meal.

European charm in old Quebec

What a lovely New Years holiday. L'Hotel du Vieux Quebec has the charm of a small European Hotel and is walking distance to everything within the walls. The lounge is a wonderful place to read and get warm while sipping their excellent coffee. Our room was beautifully appointed and immaculately clean. The front desk was very helpful with maps and eating out suggestions, although the adjacent restaurant was excellent. We plan on returning in the summer.

Just came back from a 3 day holiday at this hotel and this is an awesome hotel. First is the location. Cute little boutique hotel right smack dab in the middle of Old Quebec within walking distance of all tourist attractions, restaurants and boutiques. You some beautiful buildings around here, especially at dusk.
Second is the price. We got a package that included 2 nights stay, parking (parking alone can go as high as $15/day), 2 breakfast meals, 1 dinner meal at the bistro of the hotel for a fantastic price. Third is the service. Very friendly people and the food at the bistro is just great. It is always packed with people and it is a hot spot among tourists & locals.
Other reviews had complaints about the online reservations and we took that to heart. We made our reservations through their toll-free number and nothing was more simpler. They instantly gave us our keys, the coupons for parking and restaurants and the weekend was done. If you are going for a long weekend, call them up and ask for details on the getaway package. You will flip out at this deal. Enjoy.

Walking Walking is the best way to get around as cobblestone streets are narrow, one-way and parking is tough. But don't dispair most everything is within a 10 - 15 minute walk and with planning you can walk from one historc site to another within minutes. The tram ride up / down to the lower part of the city is worth the buck fifty otherwise it is a five minute steep walk. People with walking disabiliies will find the many steep roads difficult. Be on the look out for bakeries and small cheese stores where you can stock up for a picnic lunch or mid-day snack. Wine is available in most grocery stores. The only exclusive wine store in the Old City is pricey. There are also plenty of affordable to expensive restaurants inside the city walls.
