As a marketing specialist and a connoisseur of great hotels worldwide, I know quality. In my opinion, attention to detail is what makes a hotel memorable or forgettable.. This small Victorian hotel hits the mark – absolutely superb! I would even go as far as to say one of the 5 best hotels I've ever had the pleasure to experience in Canada. My wife and I spend 3 nights in February in centre old Quebec City at the Clos Saint-Louis for our anniversary; there was not one moment that I do not treasure. We stayed in the superior guest room no 1 that was very spacious and luxurious. Flowers, chocolate, strawberry and champagne, whirlpool bath; the rest is up to your imagination… Our continental breakfast made by the owner every morning was way more then expected and delicious.

As I read in many great reviews on this site and others, the staffs were efficient & friendly - always eager to please. They send us to the St-Amour restaurant and the Champlain at the Chateau for their famous Sunday brunch, excellent choices. The location of this romantic hotel is also great. Alas, we eventually had to check out and return home in Vancouver. Will we return? I certainly hope so.

Best small hotel in Old Quebec City!

My wife and I (ages 45 & 47) spend the first 4 days of our 20th anniversary trip at this romantic Quebec City hotel during the Quebec Carnival last week. Lots of snow, fun and love…We did extensive web research before selecting the Clos Saint-Louis, and was very proud of our selection. No complaints whatsoever. The rumours are true… Courteous and efficient staff; very helpful at all time, walking distance to a number of local attractions and restaurants, great value, very charming owner. To tell you the truth, we felt like this was our home.

As suggested by the owner we dined at the famous St-Amour restaurant on Saturday night. Just loved it! Our room at the hotel was very stylish and with a modern bathroom and excellent bedding and décor. Truly romantic & Victorian.

If you can afford it, this is a must stay for Old Quebec City! You will not be disappointed.

Great first rate Hotel!

from MJSKS
I cant say enough good things about this hotel. The rooms were beautiful and very well appointed. The rooms and bathrooms were decorated to perfection. The service was very helpful and could not be friendlier. The rooms were spacious, quiet and very romantic. Close to everything you want to do in Quebec City and down the street from the St. Lawrence. It's tough to beat this Canadian french hotel..You can have the Frontenac...I'll take Le Clos St Louis!

Very Romantic

Hotel Le Clos St-Louis is one of the best hotels I've stayed in. My husband and I went to Quebec City for our honeymoon Sept. 6-13, 2005 and it was beautiful. Besides the hotel being excellent the city was a great place for a honeymoon...a little off the ordinary, but that was what we were looking for. I must say, besides having a room on the top floor and having to hike up all the steps (no elevators) we had no problems what so ever. The staff were VERY helpful, any reservations we needed they took care of. They also had several suggestions for site seeing and where to eat. If you are looking for a nice place to go and a nice hotel, Quebec City and Clos St-Louis are perfect.

The Perfect Getaway

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I loved this hotel where we stayed for 5 nights to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The hotel is warm and charming, staff is excellent - especially Paul who was very helpful in making recommendations for restaurants and other fun events. The location is perfect. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and if and when we decide to return to Quebec City, we will stay at this location again.

Should Be Five Stars

from ali604
We selected the Hotel Le Close St-Louis based on the reviews on trip advisor. We found it to be everything that the reviews said it would be. Our room was on the third floor (Room #7) and although it may be one of the smaller rooms in the hotel, it was still more than adequate. The bathroom was up-to-date with a whirlpool tub and had good lighting. The room had a very comfortable queen size bed and the Victorian colors and furnishings gave it a warm and relaxing feeling. The entire hotel was spotless and very well maintained. The staff was fluent in English and very knowledgeable about Quebec City. Paul was very accomodating and helpful making dinner and taxi reservations. There were also two female employees (but we didn't get their names) who also were very helpful. The location of the hotel on Rue St. Louis is excellent. It is only a short walk to the Chateau Frontanec and one of upper town's best restuarants, Sainte-Amour, is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel is also walking distance to the Citadelle. On our next trip to Quebec City we will definitely stay at the Hotel Le Clos St-Louis again.

Breakfast not included!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We booked 4 nights on the ratings for this hotel and we were in room 23 which is on the small side and only has bedside lamp on one side of the bed.Only 1 comfortable chair to share. We were dissapointed to find that there was no breakfast included as the web site and reviews seemed to indicate there would be.We were only told on the third day that coffee was available to collect from the "breakfast room" in the mornings but not available in the room.I queried this and was told that there was little interest shown by guests when breakfast had been included so it had been discontinued. We had no assistance in taking our luggage up the 2 flights of stairs there been no lift installed. The hotel is very clean and the lounge is a very pleasant place to sit.
On the good side the position is brilliant and as soon as you step out of the hotel you are in the hub of things. The horse drawn carriages pass along the street and the main attractions are only a short walk away. There are plenty of good resteraunts on St Louis and we had breakfast in the crepe cafe near the entrance to the Frontenac.Much better than the one the hotel had suggested and excellent value and service.
We stayed 4 nights in Toronto,Kingston and Montreal before arriving in Quebec and it was certainly best till last.

Would definitely recommend

from KR2008
I would definitely recommend this hotel - excellent location on a pretty street; helpful staff; good bedrooms. I would say this is worth the money. They also gave good recommendations on where to go for breakfast.

Loved it!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from 3 nights at the Clos Saint Louis. What a terrific time! We'd never been to Quebec City before and checked online, mostly with Tripadvisor. Saw that there isn't a single negative review of the Saint Louis and decided to give it a try. Friends were recommending the Frontenac, but we wanted something cozier. At less than half the price, the location is terrific. The staff is delightful. And there are countless wonderful restaurants a short walk away. We had such an enjoyable time, we decided to stay an extra day. Our first room (room 22) was a bit smaller than the room they moved us to for our added day, but we actually enjoyed the smaller room more because it was one story higher and it faced the back rather than Rue Saint Louis where you hear some traffic. The stairs are steep, but for us the extra walk was worthwhile. Quiet throughout; a great night's sleep; wonderful place to stay.

We would not hesitate head back to beautiful Quebec City, and when we go, our first call will be to the Clos Saint Louis. Highly recommended!

The reviews are right-except

Parking is NOT included in the room rate here. Great place, room 20 is huge.

Jewel in Vieux Quebec

from A TripAdvisor Member
Absolutely lovely small hotel in the heart of Old Quebec. Rooms were tastefully decorated to fit with the feel and romance of this part of the City. The room (and bath with jacuzzi tub) was very clean, comfortable and up to date in all respects. Pictures of individual rooms are available on the hotels own web site. Staff was excellent and attentive to all needs.

Parking was available behind the hotel (quite a rarity in this part of the City) and is included in the room rate. WiFi internet access is available as well.

We quite enjoyed our end of July trip to Quebec and plan on returning again. This is where we will stay!

The Rumors are True!

from MizLiz
No, this hotel is NOT over-rated here at T.A., as I had suspected it might be. How can what is essentially an 18-room B&B garner so many excellent reviews? Hard work and good manners, from what I saw. A fine location, and so clean you could eat off the floors. No request was too much trouble for Joselynn at the front desk – or any of the other staff. Just a class act all the way around. Big bathrooms, lovely décor. Can you say romantic? Oh, yes. A bountiful, inexpensive breakfast is served in the cellar of all places – and it was lovely. Only negative – we had room #5, a two-bedroom suite, and neither of the beds had actual headboards, so reading in bed was out. We found that a little inconvenient. Otherwise, this place was about as near perfect as a small hotel can get, and very reasonably priced, too.

A Superb Restaurant Have lunch or dinner at Toast. It has a beautiful indoor garden. If you have lunch, order the ribs - they are not Texas style, but they are superb.

Canyons Ste-Anne Take a side trip out of the city to see this fantastic gorge and waterfalls
