Historical Traveller Reviews of Best Western City Centre Hotel

perfect place to stay!

from jetoutwest
Excellent hotel. Front staff most pleasant. Able to address every concern/question we had. Seemed excited to share details of Quebec with us and were most knowledgable. Pool murals were amazing. Pool was on smaller size, but met our needs. Short hike up to fortified city, but lots of atmosphere enroute. Check out hotel "packages" for SUBSTANTIAL savings (multiple day stays). Breakfast buffet available only on weekdays. Hotel could be upgraded to further "star" given some minor improvements (soaps, glasses, etc)

Not Bad

from leebo
The Best Western Centre Ville is a very average hotel. It has a nice breakfast area and pool. The rooms aren't bad, and it is a well run Best Western hotel. I have no complaints, the location is OK and there are restaurants near the hotel. All in all it is a very average hotel.

Quite Decent with a few quirks.

This is a fine enough place to stay, though there are a few oddities to it. The rooms were quiet overnight, which is a big plus. Other than the following they were basically what you'd expect from a good hotel.

There's no direct heat in the bathroom, so when you wish to shower you may have to heat up the main room, leaving the door to the bath open, and hope some heat will get in there, or resort to the old "run the shower hot for a while" trick. The water flow was quite startling for a US visitor used to low-flow showerheads!

The coffeemaker was hooked up to a thin, inadequate extension cord -- the second day we were there, we came back to find black scorch marks on the cable! (I suspect housekeeping had tried using it to run a vacuum cleaner and it had overheated and caught on fire.)

Food in the in-hotel restaurant is good but a bit pricey.

very good !!!

from tech3
stayed at the Best Western centre ville quebec with my girlfriend for labour day weekend and It was fantastic... I had stayed there a few years back but for one night only.

Altough we are from Montreal (3 hrs drive south) we were amazed how Quebec city people are much kinder; polite and helpful than Montrealers. The room was clean; ordinary. but we got one with whirlpool ; it was alot of fun :P I was impressed by the price of the room.

The area is an old ghetto; but it is getting alot of work done. we walked down back to the hotel at 1:00am and did not find any problems. iT is really 15 min walk from old quebec.

Try the Postino italian bistro near the hotel; they make their own pasta; it is fantastic and affordable. good people!

Only OK for us.

from nycgo
This is a perfectly fine hotel w/in 20 mins walking distance to Old Quebec. The rooms were clean and adequate and the staff was friendly. There is no breakfast included, but there is a Dunkin Donuts around the block which held us off until we could eat a proper meal in the walled city. We stayed here w/children aged 3 and 5 and I think the location is too far from Old Quebec. Even though there is a free elevator at the end of the street which takes you up a level, it's still a lot of uphill walking. I love walking
but I think we spent too much time walking to get to where we wanted to walk. This ended up exhausting our kids earlier than we wanted. They did, however, love running down each block at the end of the day. The pool was small but the kids liked it anyway. If you are traveling w/young children, I would rec staying near Grand Allee i.e. higher up the hill. However, if we had come here just as a couple, the place is more than adequate.

Very good value !

from Tiquinho
The Best Western Centre Ville in Quebec is a good hotel.
It's certainly not a luxury hotel, but for the price we've paid it was really good !
Rooms are big, clean, and the bathroom is top notch.
Staff VERY friendly and helpful, definitely the best staff I've ever met !
There is also a nice swimming pool and a restaurant.
Hotel is well situated in Downtown Quebec (not in the old city).
Frankly, the hotel is very near from the Old City Center, but I'm European, and I'm used to walk much more than an American, so this is a "Euro- point de vue"...
I would definitely stay there again !

Fairly good hotel

Stayed at the Best Western Downtown/Centre Ville for a couple night.

Well renovated, very clean room. About 10 minutes walking (up) to Old Quebec City.

Stay away from ''inside'' view room. Like an inside cruise liner cabine, you have no outside view (inside atrium).

We would like to thank you for your comments following your recent stay in Quebec City. Our hotel is located in the new revitalized St-Roch district 15 - 20 minutes walking distance (going uphill) from the historic Old Quebec. We do not have a panoramic view in our property, we are located in a business area with building or house aroud us.

What a beautiful place.

The reviews of this hotel are mixed, but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. We took the train to Quebec so I told the travel agent to place us somewhere within walking distance to the old city since we were not renting a car. I really liked this hotel. The resturant was wonderful as was the service, and our room was great. I don't know what to make of reviews that say that the front desk was small or the internet not fast enough. We were in Quebec to see the old city not to sit in the lobby of the hotel. It is an uphill climb to the main street, but it is definately worth the walk. There was a lot of really great shops and sights that we would have missed had we stayed inside the walled city, so I am glad for the walk. If you can walk up steep hills and climb stairs then I'd say save some money staying at this hotel and treat yourself to the horse drawn carriage ride, it's really worth it.

Good for walkers

from RSVPTravel
My partner and I stayed here on July 2 2005. The hotel had no apparent problems. Service was good. Rooms were average to small. There is a restaurant below, and the lobby is nicely decorated. There is wireless internet in your rooms and a computer in the lobby. Parking is 9 canadian dollars plus tax when validated at the front desk. Overall the hotel was average, nothing spectacular.

The hotel is not in Old Quebec city . So, if you were like us (did not do our research) downtown does not mean in the CENTER of old Quebec city. However, there are lots of bars and restaurants to put a smile on your tummy. I do suggest staying in a hotel in OLD Quebec city or one directly across from the walled city. Or walk a mile or less up the hill and enjoy the festivities.

It is a beautiful city(Old Quebec). We plan on visiting again in the future.

Top Local Tips for Quebec City

OLD CITY You have to visit old Quebec city...a little taste of Europe! Great bars and restaurants...also visit the Chataeu Frontenac!! Beautiful property.

Cafe Breton Excellent crepes. Be prepared to wait on line to get in.

Neighbourhood is upcoming The neighbourhood between the hotel and the train station is upcoming and getting trendy. The direct surrounding may not give the impression but if you cross Rue de La Courronne and walk towards the large cathedral you'll find a number of galleries, bars and restaurants.
