Historical Traveller Reviews of Auberge Saint Antoine Hotel

Excellent time

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just got back from a wonderful Labor Day weekend in Quebec. The Auberge St. Antoine was great. Our flight was delayed and we did not get in until 2:30 am. The staff was there ready to check us in and get us up to our room quickly. The room was great - everything was very comfortable and clean and with all the necessary amenities. We had purchased the Grand Comfort package where we had dinners for both nights and restaurants in the area both (Le Echaud and Le Saint Amour) were fabulous. As others have noted, the location of the hotel is great. We would definitely come back again.

Flawless in Every Detail, Romantic, and Chic

from Dcubita
The Auberge Saint-Antoine definitely lives up to its hype. My wife and I stayed here in early September 2004, and we found that our expectations were exceeded in all aspects of the hotel's accommodations and services.

Staff/Service: Upon driving up, the valet/porter welcomed us and took care of the car, bags, and a couple of questions. The registration staff were warm yet professional, efficient, and polished. We asked about the history of the hotel and were given a detailed press kit they had put together during the opening.

Rooms: this is the true highlight of the hotel. Our room, "Nouvo Monde," featured an exquisite, mimimalist design complete with quality custom built-in fixtures, including the bed, desk, bar-area, and bay closet. The bathroom has double sliding doors, a rain shower head plus a hand-held shower head, and small black-and-white tile work. Everything is very modern, as the room name would indicate, but it is nicely contrasted with subtly-placed artifacts gleaned during the restoration of the hotel.

Location: the Auberge is located in the heart of the old section of town. Streets are narrow and chocked full of boutiques, inviting galleries, and charming restaurants. In 5 - 10 minutes, one can walk up the hill where historic buildings and spectacular views are located.

Overall, this is one of the best (and most romantic) hotel experiences we have had, and we have travelled a lot. We would highly recommend the Auberge Saint-Antoine at any price. There are many other small things I could point out, but it is perhaps better to leave some mystery so that you can discover this gem for yourself.

Perfection

The Auberge St. Antoine was splendid. Swank decor, gracious service, and perfect location. Our room with a terrace had a majestic view of the Frontenac. The room was quiet and very comfortable. The bathroom was luxurious! For those willing to treat themselves to the best - this hotel is it.

Pleasing to the eye....

This was a beautifully decorated hotel...I was really impressed when we entered our room. Beds were very comfortable and all in all, very lovely. However, there was a wedding at the hotel (we were there on a Saturday) and all of the children who were wedding guests were running around and screaming in the courtyard (which our windows faced) well past 11 pm...I think that should have been a little more controlled. One thing I must advise is that the continental breakfasts ARE NOT FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We ate at the hotel restaurant, Panache, which had just opened and still had some kinks to be worked on but it was a lovely atmosphere.

Fabulous Hotel

This hotel was wonderful. Clean rooms, quiet, staff helpful. It was decorated a bit too contemporary for me. We had a problem with our original reservation and the Saint Antione had availability so we really didn't know about them. The location was excellent. Only drawback, if you are a reader in bed don't expect to see too well. Lighting around the bed is for affect not to read. Otherwise, we loved this hotel.

Amazing!

Our experience was amazing! This hotel surpassed our expectations. It is truly a wonderful place to stay! The hotel is beautifully appointed and the staff attentive. The room was quite large with an oversized luxurious bathroom. The private terrace was a romantic spot especially in the evening looking up to the "chateau". We will definatley return. Merci Quebec!

Just okay...

After reading the many rave reviews of this hotel, I decided to splurge and change over my previous reservations to stay at the Auberge St-Antoine...

I was very disappointed that I had made this change, as the hotel did not make us feel "at home" at all... Yes - the decor is unique, quite beautifully done, and the hotel is incredibly clean... but the service level was not up to what we expected for the rate we paid.

The staff was unable to find our reservation for an uncomfortable 15 minutes, even with a confirmation #. When at last they found the reservation that was "lost in between some of their files", no apologies were offered for the inconvenience - and we left the desk feeling quite uneasy. The staff was not at all warm and friendly or accommodating.

When we returned from dinner, a huge tour group was in the lobby waiting for the elevators. After waiting for quite a long time - we finally decided to hike up 6 flights of stairs to our room. Not fun. In fact, it then took us a while to find a staff member who could show us where the stairs were (and he didn't even know where they were!) Very frustrating!

It took the front desk 19 rings to answer the phone when I was requesting a wake-up call (there is no alarm clock in the room other than a small wind-up travel clock!!). I'll take a decent alarm clock over a Bose radio.

Yes - the location is terrific, the rooms are beautiful and ultra-modern - but we left with a very bad taste in our mouth from this hotel, wishing we had spent 1/3 the amount of money on the Auberge Saint Pierre (just across the street) that we had loved SO much...

t want to leave

from JoyWryter
I looked into the Auberge Saint Antoine because of reviews on this site and couldn't have been more pleased. I asked for a suite (decided to splurge!) and was given two rooms on the top floor, facing the St. Lawrence. The room had a terrace, reached by stepping out through one of the two arched windows. From there, I could sit and watch the river or look back at "Haute Ville" at night and the lights of the city. The bathroom was huge with one of the largest, deepest tubs I've ever seen - plus a heated floor, furnished bathrobes and a large shower. The products - shampoo, body lotion, conditioner and bath gel - are incredible (and, if you're lucky enough to find them in stock, available to purchase). The suite had a double sided gas fireplace, two televisions, Bose sound system and a king size bed. The staff was attentive, but unobstrusive, and mainly very helpful. The only problem seemed to be that although everyone was fluent in both French and English, several people had a bit of a problem understanding my questions about purchasing the products. The only other problem - I just didn't want to leave. Quebec City is a fantastic place to walk around and enjoy the sites and ambiance - the the Auberge Saint Antoine a perfect place to do it from. I highly, highly recommend this hotel.

Loved It!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The best hotel I've ever stayed in! A perfect location, absolutely spotless room and the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in. Worth every penny. I took a tour of all the room options and opted to stay in the new modern section. All of the period suites had their own charm.
Some even had working fireplaces. A definate must stay, the only problem is it's hard to leave!

FIRST CLASS ALL THE WAY!

from adyokosawa
We loved everything about this auberge. The gorgeous decor made us feel welcome and comfortable. The lighting and historic displays are awesome. The hotel has "class" written all over it. The breakfast smorgasbord was something we looked forward to every day. The staff was very nice and personable. The location was perfect. We visited the other hotels in the area and they just didn't hold a candle to this one. We were so glad we picked it. I don't know how anyone who stays here or even just takes a look when visiting would choose to stay anywhere else. We will definately make this our favorite place to vacation and stay. We felt like they really cared about making our stay here wonderful.

Top Local Tips for Quebec City

So much to see in just a couple miles Get up and start walking - stop for a picnic on the Plains of Abraham (take some local cheese), wander the boadwork in front of the Frontenac, have a pitcher of sangria in the Place Royale - take a deep breath and sample the clean and crisp local air. A great city for a romatic, relaxing stay.

Have a great lunch Gourmet lunches at pricey restaurants are a relative bargain
