This place is an excellent youth hostel, great location and excellent friendly service. Very safe and clean. Recommended.

This is the second time I stay at Hotel de Paris with my girlfriend. The first time I stayed, I rented what they called a budget room. It wasn`t huge but it was clean and had everything we needed: double bed, TV, private bathroom, etc. This year we opted for a suite which was very reasonable priced (about $125). It was a beautiful large room with a balcony facing the front. The washroom was recently redone in beautiful rustic ceramics. They even include a nice continental breakfast at the on-site bistro which was nice. I guess sometimes its worth opting for an upgrade.

The room was in the basement. One small window was at ground level of a parking area and there was no screen. When the window was open dirt and leaves came into the room. The weather was hot and there was no AC so I had to leave the window open. The bathroom was unfinished, the walls were unpainted and there were no towel bars. There was a plumbing problem which caused the hallway carpet to be wet all the time. There was no security. The front doors were always unlocked and there was frequently no staff person at the front desk. It is the most expensive and worst hotel I've stayed at in Montreal.

They say on the website that all the bathrooms and matresses are new; I don't know about the matresses but the bathrooms certainly were not new, they had mold on the walls and only one of the three toilets with showers locked and up to 40 people had to share those 3 toilets!!
The bunk beds felt like they were about to fall apart and the room smelt damp. If you ask for a refund of your deposit after you see the room they won't give it back to you either! It is a rip-off for the quality you get. The Hotel La Residence next door actually worked out cheaper than the hostel!! (when u added the price of renting sheets, a towel and buying a little breakfast). It was small, but it was clean and they were very friendly. I wouldnt advise anyone to stay at the Hotel de Paris hostel.
