This hotel is in a very run down part of town with trash in the streets and graffiti on the walls of the homes and buildings around it. They telll you that parking is free. There are about 5 spots and the hotel has over 20 rooms...you do the math. We had to park our car on the street on night and we prayed that it would be there the next morning. We were told that the train station is withing walking distance. It is a 15 to 20 minute walk through a rough neighborhood. I would not consider taking a train at night because of safety concerns. I got makeup on a towel and I received a letter telling me that I would be charged extra if it happened again. There was no telephone in the room. If you need to make a call, get in line for the 1 telephone in the reception area. The worst part of our trip was having to come back to the hotel at the end of the day. Not a good time. I cannot recommend it. You get what you pay for!

Management Response from Shahrzad Ghaffari, Owner
Bonjour/greetings,
I clicked on your website by accident and I could read this review. We regret that you only have this review which is not representative for our B&B. We kindly invite you to visit Tripadvisor and read the other reviews and you will understand that only one review and such a review is cruel for such a business like ours and the future guests who will enjoy choosing our B&B. Tripadvisor removed this review a while ago because either we wrote to them or the guests decided to remove it. We expect you to remove this review as tripadvisor did.
Kindly find below our explanations
1. Location: Manoir Ville Maire is located 5 to 10 minutes from the major attractions of Montreal by car.
Public transportation: Metro/subway Prefontain is 10 minutes walk from the B&B (4th stop from Berri/Latin quarters, to festivals, Old Town, shopping areas, etc.). The bus 34 drives the guests in 10 minutes to Olympic Parc/Biodome/Botanical Gardens/Insectarium/ the most beautiful and Oldest pubic Market or Montreal. The same bus in front of the hotel drives our guests in 5 minutes to Papineau station which is the two stations from Berri/Latin Quarters mentionned ealier.
2. Security: Montreal in general is one of the safest cities in the world. You may see people with creative look (each person tries to dress up in the most artistic way but some have better taste than others!!!) but they are not dangerous or agressive at all. It is true that walking from the train station is not recommanded because that distance is not attractive and it is obvious that we always recommand our guests to either walk from Prefontain station for 10 minutes which is more attractive or take the bus 34 from Papineau metro station which stops 5 minutes later a few steps from Hotel. Unfortunately, we realized that sometimes the guests decide to travel without any information about the place they are visiting. We are quite knowlegeable about Montreal and have all kinds of cultural and touristic information in the lobby or in our office at the disposable of our guests. And we would be more than happy to explain how our guests can take the best advantage of their visit of Montreal. It might happen that a guest chooses Manoir Ville Marie because there is no availabilities elsewhere in Montreal while they want to stay in the middle of hot spots and crowd of downtown. In that case, we agree that Manoir Ville Marie does not meet their expectations because it is located in the quiet section of Sainte-Castherine street which has all the caracteristics of an old district (majority of the population of our district are artists, so, lots of workshops and some graffities of course which are works of art for some guests who enjoy walking in our district and find it so friendly! Acutally, we are looking forward to organizing the tour of the a few of these art workshops.
3.Towels: Manoir Ville Marie is an environnement friendly B&B, fully non smoking, extremely clean while using the most high quality non chemical cleaning and washing products for the respect of our guests, our employees and the nature. We have notes in all our rooms asking our guests to help us in this mission and also explaining that they will be charged if they destroy any towels. If the guests are conscious about the danger of chemicals and are not yet as concerned as we are about saving environnement, then, it is hard to explain to them why instead of charging them directly on their credit card (like the majority of the hotels do), instead, they recieved a polite sympatic note in their room explaining that we did not use strong and harmful chemicals to remove the make-up stains on our beautiful towels and we needed their comprehension and their support in this matter (we also have plain towels for the guests who know that they needed it but the towels are not the for removing their make-ups as we have at their disposal paper towels, make-up remover cotton. Should we regret that we did not charge these guests for the towels that we had to replace because the stains were impossible to remove!?!
5. Confort & rates: we are one of the only B&B\'s with an elevator in Montreal, beautiful view on the river and bridge, the room with high ceiling and real thick walls (charming heritage graystone building, 1895), air-conditionning in all rooms, the modern comforts (3 star hotel), free high speed wireless internet, large breakfast area, relaxing area with piano, kitchen facilities, etc. All at the disposable of our guests.
6. Parking: we have 14 rooms and suites (4 family suites with 2 room each) which make a total of 22 rooms. Almost half of our guests fly or take the train. We have up to 8 parking spots + our the back yard where we can place the cars. But, because the parking is free on the street, most of our regular guests often park their cars on the street. There is only between 8 to 9:30 a.m during the week days that we suggest our guests\'to move their cars or let us move them if they wish to leave their car keys at reception. During the week-ends parking is free in both sides of the street. Advantage of not being in Downtown. We say free parking and it is true.
7. Graffitis: We believe that there is very few big cities in the world which have been decorated with the grafittis. I also believe that in Downtown area there is a bigger number of them than our district. As I explained earlier we have lots of artists living in our district so the wall paintings add caracter to it and that is the reason for why our district is getting more and more popular because of its cachet, and important monuments like Olympic Parc, the Old Market and all Beaux-Art style heritage buildings and cherches.
Finally, we regret that our guests did not have time to read more about Montreal and our district or they did not offer us the chance to us to explain it to them.
Meanwhile, we understand and respect their choice, their preference for staying in Downtown area eventhough lots of guests avoid it because being noisy and expensive because we understood that these guests had come to Montreal to enjoy the night life. It is obvious that after 1:00 a.m they had to take a cab (approximately 10$ from the Latin Quarters) or walk to the hotel because the last metro and bus 34 stop at 1:00 a.m.(there is a night bus that they can get from Downtown). We recommand these guests to choose a hotel in Downtown area next time and offer the chance to those guest who appreciate the caracteristics of our B&B and district, respect environnement and enjoy people, diversity, art and culture.
