I had an experience similar to many others reviewing this place. I didn't read reviews, saw the pictures online and booked/paid online too. What a mistake! This place is a dump: it smells bad; the furniture is old and broken down; the rooms aren't equipped as promised; the staff are sullen and unprofessional. I couldn't stay a single night, and argued via email with Berri Suites for a couple of weeks for a refund, to no avail. I eventually got a full refund from my credit card company. Lesson learned: always read reviews!!

I stayed here in June 2007. The photos they display on their website, are some what misleading. However, you have to put this into perspective, its is abit run down, but there didnt seem to be any major problems with it. Another thing to remember is that it costs $40 a night, and you get exactly what you pay for. The only slight problem is the caretaker only able to speak French, but I managed to mudle through this, and survived! If you are after luxury, you will be dissapointed, but for the price you shouldn't expect luxury. I enjoyed my stay there, and the location is excellent. I was there for the grandprix weekend, so this was way cheaper than any hotel.

Please do not go here. This is a scam. The photos are not of these apartments. The place is disgusting and I did not stay. Now they wont give me my money back.
The place is worse than a doss house and nearly wrecked our family holiday. They made us wait 4 hours to see the room and then pretended that they had nothing to do with the booking or money.

I have made a reservation in the net for one month. I thought it was such a nice place in the website but when I got there, I have realized the pictures were false. At first the rude landlord shown me a very small room with old furniture I didnt want it than he shown me a nicer room in the basement which was bigger and nicer but still not like the photos in the website but it was clean. The bathroom was very small. I told him I want it for 1 week only and he agreed. Everything was fine but after 3 days I have heard noise somewhere in the kitchen and in the wall. The fourth day I went to bed at 3am and 10 min after I turned off the light I heard some plastic bags noise and noise on the ground. I was in the bed and I turned my head to check and I saw a big rat beside my suitcase. I have screen and he ran out in the kitchen and disappeared. I was not able to sleep so I went to see the landlord and he told me it was too late come back tomorrow. I didnt have choice to stay cause I was low in cash after all my shopping. I came back in the morning and he putted a rattrap with cheese in the kitchen. He told me if you hear a rat screaming let me know Ill come get it. I was disgusted. A few hours later I have heard a big noise and screaming I told him and we went back in the apartment. He said he have to wait a few minutes to make sure he is dead. He took the trap rats with his bare hand and he said it's ok he's dead now and he left with the trap. Day number 6 at night I have heard another big noise and a rats screaming in the kitchen but I have checked everywhere and there is no trap and no rats. I told the landlord and he told me don't worry that's not in your kitchen that's behind the wall of your kitchen there is a heat and storage room and I have put another trap there. That's why! He said the rats don't come from the inside but from the outside. What a lie! It was a nightmare!

This place is a complete dump and does not look anything like the website - they seem to have just scanned pictures from an Ikea catalog. The janitor doesn't speak English and I had trouble communicating with him at check-in. The only good thing about Berry Suites is the location. If you have no other choice, try not to make a reservation for a long time. You'll be able to find a better place within a couple of days - the area has many decent B&Bs.

I thought I was going to see an apartment with rooms..but there was only one room..and that one room was the only room..it really was dark and smelly and we could hardly have room for moving there..that was how small it was..the first night was a terrible experience for me. I couldn't sleep for fear of being opened and robbed. I couldn't find one single phone there..not even in the lobby..and I think me and my husband were the only occupants there..it was cold too..we had a little heater that kept us warm but I couldn't leave it on becuz I was afraid it might catch fire..please be aware that if you are thinking of going there that it is not the place to go and stay..we were reserved for 3 nights but left right the next day cuz I couldn't stand the smell anymore..and last but not least..the bathtub was half the size a regular bath tub..lol..I never want to think of that place again..

There was no one to greet me at front door. I had to wait 2 hours before anyone arrived. I ended up not staying there because they had no room (they said they overbooked, even though I had confirmed reservation. I had to find another hotel last minute. Very upsetting to experience such scam. I did end up getting a full refund.

My profession keeps my travel itinerary full. Over the past 20 years, working as an engineer has taken me to many corners of the world. During this period I have stayed in a wide range of accommodations, some better than others, everything up to 5 star bi-level suites.
I have the option to secure my lodging and be compensated by my employer, within certain budgetary constraints, of course. Internet has made the search and selection of a place, conforming to my requirements, much easier and if I can say rewarding. I do my homework before committing and submitting a reservation. That means reading the small print or disclaimers and comparing with what else, within my budget, is available on the local market. That's something one has to do unless you have deep pockets and can afford and expect to be pampered in a 5 STAR hotel.
When planning my month's stay in Montreal, I came across Berri Suites. I did my homework, as usual, and read their site from A to Z. That answered all my questions as per rates, location, type of accommodations and availability. My online research found little else as suitable. I submitted my reservation online and fully prepaid, after having received a confirmation of space availability.
Berri Suites are located in the heart of the city, within 5 minutes of two metro stations and walking distance from both English and French universities. Shopping promenades and streets are equally close. Taxi dropped me off, at the address on a Sunday afternoon, where I was met by the building's concierge. A friendly sort, who made me feel welcome with a characteristic Quebecois "Bonjour". Sunlight flooded my second floor Berri street facing apartment, through the drawn curtained windows, as I entered for the first time. The suite was clean, furniture comfortable and unassuming, linens fresh and plentiful, kitchenette and the bathroom spotless. There were enough pots and utensils to prepare anyone's favorite crepe St. Jacques. I did have to go grocery shopping first though, at a nearby grocery store.
My stay at the Berri Suites was uneventful, the room was quiet, despite the fact that the building seemed fully occupied. Even though Berri Street, a tree lined and well lit avenue is a major artery, it has light car traffic. Staff, working from a first floor office, was friendly and helpful with their suggestions on how to best get around the city and how to fully savor the Francophone and international makeup of the town. I used the wireless internet access for correspondence, despite cable connectivity being offered as well. I opted out from supplemental house keeping, as a laundry room is available and conveniently located in the building. I did however take advantage of office services (copying, printing and faxing) being offered.
At the end of my stay I received a receipt for my online Visa prepayment (an important issue with my employer). I hope that there is a vacancy at Berri Suites, when I am back in town, for Phase two of our project.
