Cool old building

It's in a cool old building with walls of brick and stone, and the coolest windows. The staff was easy going and attended to any needs I had. Free wireless is great. I arrived hours before check-in and they allowed me to leave my luggage in the office until check in time, while I explored the city and grabbed lunch. Free coffee and bagels were ready at 8am and they have microwaves and refrigerators in the rooms. I would rather stay here, than in a faceless hotel where just another booked room.

Unprofessional, inconsiderate liars

My girlfriend and I arrived at All Suite VIP Loft with a receipt confirming booking and deposit payment, only to be told by the manager, Jean-Louis, that he had never heard of the booking company and thus did not have our reservation in the system. He refused to acknowledge that we had already paid the property 10% of what was due to the hotel and turned us away, leaving us without rooms. This is perhaps one of the most unpleasant experiences I've had booking a hotel online, as I lost out on both accomodation for my planned holiday and the deposit, which the property refused to refund to me.

Disaster at sister hotel -- Themis

Sounds and looks great on paper. Indeed some of the facilities really are fabulous. However they advertise high-speed Internet and an exercise facility. The Internet was not in the room I had the first night -- well, what the heck, the room was only partially finished -- and the exercise facility was never available. Construction throughout the building is disruptive. For most of my stay, there was no onsite management that I could reliably contact, including for checkout. They never sent me a final bill/receipt and they charged me $200 CAD more than the email with the original price, which said that it was the "total" charge. Repeated emails and phone calls have gotten no response, or an infinite pointing game between the general manager and the accounting department. Most of the phone numbers they have given are only answered by voicemail, with no return calls.
