Nice, convenient location

I just returned from a stay at the Fairmont Tremblant. I enjoyed the hotel and really have no complaints. I had reserved a basic Fairmont Room, so had no great views but it was sufficient in size and layout. This hotel is conveniently located to the ski slopes and the hotel offers a ski valet service to store your skis overnight. There is also an indoor and outdoor pool and hot tubs. The indoor pool was open longer hours than the outdoor pool. I really enjoyed having the outdoor pool and hot tubs to be able to sit in them and enjoy the view of the ski slopes.
The only hotel food service I used was the Wigwam, which is the counter service/pastry bar. I used it for breakfast in the mornings and found it to fine and convenient to be able to get something quickly before heading out. I plan to return to stay at the Fairmont on my next trip to Tremblant.

good but not great

Just come back from a great trip to Tremblant. The skiing was fantastic, very, very cold but worth getting out of bed for. Fantastic ski school but very expensive. The village and the people couldnt have been nicer.
The Fairmont is nice but not great. We thought that the decor was very dowdy, at least for our taste and the bar/lounge and restaurant areas rather uninspiring and unwelcoming. Also this grade of hotel should have a turn down service in the evening.
That said it is a great place to go skiing from the UK, with short flight and fairly easy transfers. We will go back next year, but probably to another hotel. The food in the village is good and a special mention to Oberoi, where you can get great soup and baguettes for lunch, in a quirky atmosphere.

Great family hotel for ski trip

My husband and I and our 3 boys (age 4, 11, 12) stayed 2 nights in early Feb and had a blast. We had the deluxe family room which had 2 double beds and a queen pullout in a very large room overlooking the ski runs. We felt pampered from the moment the bellboy took our luggage. Unfortunately our room was not ready at noon as requested but was ready by 2 pm which is well ahead of the 4 pm checkin. The skiing was awesome and we really appreciated the ski valet storing our skiis each night. The kids loved the outdoor heated pool and hottubs looking out onto the hill. The location cannot be beat as you literally ski to the door then walk 20 feet to the ski valet. We did not eat at any of the hotel restaurants (too expensive) but took the kids to Casey's or picked up subs for the kids to eat in the room then went out for a romantic dinner without them. The village is simply beautiful to walk in. The kids cannot wait to go back.

Have just returned from a 10 night stay at the fairmont. It is a real deluxe hotel with fantastic staff and the only real ski in ski out hotel in the resort. Whoever designed this hotel did a great job. The ski rental shop and friendly ski valet were right next to each other on the terrace level and it was literally a 30 second walk around the fabulous heated pool and jacuzzis till you could put on your skis and head up the mountain. The wigwam cafe, also on the terrace level overlooking the pools was great for a quick breakfast and lunchtime snacks and the staff there were exceptionally friendly.
Our room was overlooking the mountain and was very spacious with a lounge area. We had upgraded to a deluxe room but this was more than expected.
The skiing itself we found slightly limited after ten days, but there were other activities to do if you wished. We did the dog sledding which was great fun.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and the hotel was faultless. Highly recommended to anybody.

Excellent Hotel

Our family just got back from a great ski experience in Tremblant and we feel we certainly picked the right hotel to stay at. The Fairmont is a true ski in, ski out hotel and has a real North Woods type of charm to it. Most, if not all of the other hotels in the village lack the character and charm of the Fairmont. The Westin's lobby has a very modern feel to it and you feel like you are in a Times Square hotel with very little character. Also, the Westin along with most of the other hotels require you to walk to the slopes. The Fairmont has the best and only outdoor slopeside pool and hot tub. It gets very crowded and closes early at 7:00 p.m. It should be open later than it is. The terrace level of the hotel has a great game room, a ski shop with rentals and nice shops. Renting our equipment was a breeze and it was of very high quality.

Food and Drink--Fairmont's restaurant is good but a little pricey. Excellent lounge, however we were surprised that kids can't sit in the lounge while their parents enjoy an apres ski drink. There is a strict over 21 law ( surprising seeing that Canadas alcohol laws are more relaxed than the states) that all lounges and bars obey. It makes it a bit difficult to enjoy apres ski with the kids.
The food in the village is mediocre. It seems that most of the restaurants are owned by Intrawest and serve the same food. Pizzateri, Spag & Co, La Forge and Le Shack all have decent, albeit similar food. La Forge and Le Shack are the best for Apres Ski. The Ice Bar is quite an impressive sight, however at a $17 entrance fee you might want to skip it. They play terrible techno music and have a very limited bar offering. They serve only Heineken beer, and a limited selection of lower end cordials and no wine. The tax situation is a joke. You will see 3 different taxes tacked on to the end of your bill. The tax issue turns a $40 family lunch into a $53 lunch without tip. There is a fedral Canadain tax, a Quebec
province tax and a Tremblant tax.

Skiing-- We expereinced great snow and weather conditions during our stay. There is a ton of snow! Excellent trail grooming and powder all weekend long We spoke to many locals who told us that the temperature routinely drops to -10 F during February. The temp remained in the 20's and 30's during our stay. The village is located on the South Side of the mountain. The South Side is much more crowded and can be windier than the North Side. Take the Gondola to the top and ski the North Side for most of your day. Due to what all of the locals were saying about the typical February temperature we don't think that we would go back to Tremblant in February. We would wait until mid to late March. My daughter went to ski school and everything worked out fine with the exception of some confusion as to where to go for her lessons.

Misc--If you are going back to the states stop at the duty free shop at the border crossing and get back your hotel tax. Make sure you bring your hotel receipt. This was a pleasant surprise. It is a long 7 1/2 hour ride from Boston. If you have time spend an afternoon in St. Jovite ( great little French town). Be prepared for the language barrier. Have Fun!

Go for Fairmont Gold

We stayed in a Fairmont Gold room which comes with your own personal lounge on the 7th floor, your own concierge plus free breakfasts and soft drinks.

We found the room to be very clean, modern and well serviced. The staff were friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Every day after skiing we sat in the outdoor hot tubs and pools which are heated and have a capacity of about 40 people.

The only downside was the noise of the air conditioning units above our room (720) which get noisy when the outside temperature goes above 2 degrees.

The hotel is perfectly located if you like a ski-in ski-out base and the ski valet was professional and friendly.

We ate out most nights but had one meal in the hotel restaurant which was good but a little pricey.

The restaurant above La Forge was great but the Plus Minus Cafe was too expensive and poor quality.

The juice bar Fluide served really nice soups and sandwiches for lunch and Oberoi served the best hot chocolate in the area.

A Very Good Hotel

My wife, two 15 year old sons, and I visited the Fairmont Tremblant for the 4th time December 17-22, 2005. The hotel is still top notch. We were there in December 04, and April 04 to ski, and I still feel this is a great hotel. We started in two Fairmont rooms and after two night had them move us to the Gold level, which my boys loved, because they could use the internet, and they had cookies out for them all day long. This is a great hotel for families.

Waiting For My Refund Because of the Strike

The hotel did not inform me timely about the strike relating to the ski mountain workers. I first learned about this from the Tremblant official website.

I decided to cancel my vacation and ask for my refund, when I learned that the ski school would be closed and therefore my kids would be unable to take lessons.

I am still waiting for a refund.

I am devastated. I thought the Fairmont had an ok reputation.

I do not trust the Fairmont hotel and would not dare risk a vacation in Mont Tremblant.

I am scared that Intrawest, the ski resort operator of Tremblant and other places in Canada, may face union strikes at their other Canadian ski operations in the future.

i went to canada for a sking holiday with my mum,dad and brothers.It was a fantastic hotel in a prime position. you can ski right to the door and i loved the hot chocolate from the cafe on the ground floor. there was a great choice of food and the rooms were very nicely furnished.the staff were very friendly i made friends with a ski valet and wrote to him a few times.my favourite thing was the outdoor hot tubs. tremblant is a beautiful place and one ofmy brothers is going there to live. we liked it so much were going back next febuary.

Wonderful Stay At Fairmont Tremblant

We had a great stay at the Fairmont Tremblant. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a very nice suite, complete with living area, dining area, and small kitchen. This, no doubt, made stay more pleasant! Room was nicely furnished, very clean, service was just wonderful. I am one of those who leaves gratuities for housekeeping staff and they left me a thank you note one day. That's never happened before. We didn't use pool area but it seemed fairly crowded. Had breakfast in restaurant every morning and it was quite nice. As with most restaurants, they had a number of types of breakfasts...we wanted smaller things (like, just a bagal) and they provided us with whatever we needed/wanted. Bell staff were very helpful and declined tips for delivering bags. We'd go back to this Fairmont any day. However, the village of Tremblant and a bit too "Disney-esque" for us....so we most likely will not return to this area.

Top Local Tips for Mont Tremblant

Expedition Wolf One of the highlights of our trip was going on the "Expedition Wolf." This dog sledding experience is a must. It costs about $140 per person but it is worth every penny. You get to drive a sled with 6 Siberian and Canadian Huskies through the woods for around 2-3 hours. I "mushed" the dogs while my wife rested in the sled. Later we were able to hold some puppies and feed the dogs. I am not a big dog lover but I was ready to bring one of these beautiful dogs home with us.

ice bar just behind the fairmont is an ice bar bit pricie to get in but its a must - beautiful sculptured bar out of ice, even the glasses are made out of ice, very cool....

Dog sledding Definitely arrange dog sledding (expedition wolf) with the concierge. It was an experience of a lifetime.
