My Fiance & I decided to go to Toronto for the weekend. To save money, we stayed in Whitby. We made the mistake of staying at the Royal. Our room had 2 double beds in it (this will become relevant). First off, the place gave me the creeps. It looks like something you'd see in a horror movie. The walls had panelling on them that you could see the edges of, there were holes in the walls. This wasn't even the worst of our night though. I decided while we were there to have a shower. I turned the water on, & waited for it to heat up.
& waited...
& waited some more...
15 minutes later, with the water maxed out on hot (& cold not turned on) it was just barely above room temperature (which in the room, was cold)
I have my shower, get out, use the pathetic little towel that wouldn't dry a glass without getting saturated, & go to turn the heat on.
Doesn't work.
I'm freezing, so I crawl under the blankets
& wait about 5 minutes
& I'm still freezing
so we steal an extra blanket from the other bed, & I huddle underneath it as well. I'm able to get to sleep this way.
The next day, we're checking out. The owner checks the room before giving us back our $20 deposit, & then tells us that because we 'used' both beds, we're getting charged $10.
Real nice, seeing as they didn't say ANYTHING about this in the first place, & we wouldn't have used the bed if the heat worked (or the warm water for that matter).
I would rather sleep on the street than spend another $70 at this hotel.
