I have stayed at the Hotel Victoria on several occassions. It's location is suberb being right downtown on Yonge street at an unbeatable price. Service was pleasant and professional. The room was ideal for a single traveller. It was clean, comfortable and adequately appointed. The hotel itself is a historic landmark in Toronto with a rich history. The complementary breakfast if fast and pleasant. I will certainly stay there again for future business trips.

Well located. Helpful Staff. Comfortable. But I miss the bar!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Victoria Hotel

A delightful surprise

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was a bit apprehensive at first, after reading some of the reviews; however, I was pleasantly surprised once I arrived at the hotel. We arrived early in the morning, although check in is only at 3, the staff made arrangements for our room to be ready for us to be able to rest. During our wait they offered a complimentary continental breakfast, took our baggages, so we could eat, sit and relax while we waited. Within a half hour our room was ready. Now that's service !!

The rooms were very nicely decorated, very clean, a bit on the small side but I really didn't mind, you have plenty of room to move around. The bed was comfortable, the rooms were quiet, we had two great nights of rest.

The complimentary continental breakfast had a good variety, cereal, muffins, toasts, croissants, cookies, fruits... everything fresh and delicious.

The staff was very friendly, greated us everytime we came by the lobby. They were helpfull answering all our questions about the city and what to visit.

We will definitely be staying at the Hotel Victoria again on our next visit to Toronto.

Stunning location and value!

My wife and I recently returned from a fantastic vacation in Toronto, highlighted by our stay at the Hotel Victoria.

This hotel is simply great all around--the location is stunning, as you are just steps from the King subway station, and near the Wellington/Church/Front/Esplanade entertainment corridor, with more restaurants and pubs than you can imagine.

We stayed in the "superior" room (C$125/night), with a queen bed, large TV, even larger bathroom, and PLENTY of room to go around. The bed was extremely comfortable, and maid service was attentive (however, a "do not disturb" sign would be a welcome addition).

We didn't take advantage of the complimentary breakfast, since we were on vacation, and getting up before 10 a.m. was difficult! :)

The front desk staff were pleasant and extremely helpful, especially concerning parking options. (Tip--if you're driving into the city, park at the garage on The Esplanade--only C$14/day.) We were always greeted with a "hello" upon passing the front desk as well.

Bottom line--if you're looking for a charming, inexpensive, quiet hotel with a marvelous location in downtown Toronto, there are simply no better options than the Hotel Victoria.

I'm looking forward to many more enjoyable stays at this property.

Perfect location and clean comfortable rooms

To be honest with you, I was little bit worried before staying at the hotel after the reviews we had read on the site. This was our final stop on our 4wk trip around Canada where we had stayed in delightful b and bs and small inns. I even went as far as checking the web for any last minute deals at another hotel.
We were very surprised by the accomodating and friendly staff at the front desk who provided maps and organised our tour to Niagara. When we checked in, they even notified us that the rate quoted in our email had been reduced because of specials they were offering. We were surprised that our room was modern, clean and comfortable. There was plenty of room (we stayed in a deluxe room with queen bed).
For breakfast, they served warm muffins, croissants, bread, and cereal. Not bad for a meal that is included in the rate. The breakfast room was a bit dark, and small. The lobby, and lift could do with a bit of a face lift, but the most important was our room.
The hotel is a few minutes walk to Eaton Centre, Air Canada Centre, and CN Tower. The subway is only a few steps away. Excellent location.

Hotel Victoria is a jewel

from JoelR-MichaelK
I stayed at the Hotel Victoria from March 15-18, 2005. What a great bargain! Rooms are small but very nice, great bathroms, newly redecorated, attractive, comfortable beds, very clean. Lobby is small and a little worn, but who spends time in the lobby? Staff was super friendly and helpful. Complimentary Breakfast was simple but good, nothing fancy but very fresh and delicious. A great hidden jewel, and so much less expensive than nearby hotels. Stay here, you will not regret it!!!

Dated, dreary and dumpy!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is very old and in poor condition. My stay here was unpleasant at best, and my boyfriend and I had to leave after one night. The service is lacklustre and all in all the place is rundown. I was expecting a nice, victorian hotel with charm and character but found it to be more of a hotel in need of some attention and care. Location is good, and with some TLC it might be a great place, but I would recommend people steer clear away.

What a dump!

I thought it would be worth it to stay really close to the main attractions in Toronto, but next time I'll pay the cab fare and stay somewhere else. The room hardly had any standing space after I put my two pieces of luggage down. The washroom had no amenities, neither did the room (there was no space for amenities anyway). There was absolutely NO VIEW, and the staff basically ignored us since we were young.

Old and drab

from A TripAdvisor Member
Perhaps my husband and I had the wrong impression of this hotel when we made our reservations. But the information we had made it seem to be a boutique style establishment.

It was anything but. The rooms were old, tired and the staff were unfriendly and slow. We are from Quebec and typically stay with the Germain hotels, but thought we would try this one since it was more convenient to where we were headed.

Next time we'll stay at Le Germain and pay the extra cab fare. This hotel shouldn't be ranked as high as it is on the website, we thoroughly disliked our stay.

Good hotel, great price.

The Hotel Victoria in Toronto offered a comfortable room, good service, an abundant Continental breakfast, and a great location - all at an astonishingly reasonable price for Toronto.

This was our second stay at this hotel, and it will not be our last. Kudos!!

If you're looking to be pampered, skip the Victoria. No one will be tripping over themselves to accommodate your every need nor will you find the usual exciting hustle-bustle of a big city hotel. However, if you plan to spend very little time in your room and don't mind hauling your own bags, you can't beat the Victoria for value. The rooms are small but clean and the location was perfect. The bed was very comfortable and though the breakfast wasn't exciting, there was plenty of it. If you are looking for a good value and not a lot of fuss, the Hotel Victoria will probably meet your needs. (Please note that there is no parking or valet service.)

Good experience at Hotel Victoria

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just spent 4 nights at the beginning of October at the Hotel Victoria. We chose them for several reasons. 1) location - we were arriving by train from Montreal where we had spent a few days and this hotel was within easy walking distance of train station. Also, we prefer these small hotels over other mid-priced hotels like Holiday Inn, plus they are normally quieter and in this case the breakfast was included and I don't believe it was at Holiday Inn. 2) location again - described as being in 'theatre district' and we had tickets to see Momma Mia. Our first day in Toronto, was also were able to get 1/2 price tickets to Hairspray -- another good production. The walk to theatres was a good 10 blocks - so not close, but in the vicinity and we walked early and late - safe to do and always interesting. 3) location - again. A short walk to subway stops for getting around and is definitely in the middle of things, especially business. Would be a good place for a business person on budget to stay. We walked from there to - waterfront hotel for lunch, St. Lawrence Market, CN Tower, theatres 4) Price - reasonable price for a middle range hotel. Room was small, but fine for 2 people. Bathroom looked like it was recently updated and was nice. We had a room at back - making it quiet since hotel located on the busy street Yonge, the continental breakfast was good - included cereal, toast, juice,coffee/tea and fruit - in their breakfast room. Complimentary newspapers available in lobby as well as apples for guests -- a small things, but we thought really pleasant. We definitely would stay there again if/when we go back to Toronto
