Nice but Inconvenient

I did enjoy the overall look of your hotel and the location was very convenient to the CN tower where we ate our New Years eve dinner. Where the inconvenience lies is in the fact that when we returned to the hotel at the end of the evening we were locked out of our room due to a security glich in the computer system. We waited in the hall for close to 4 hours in what we felt was an unsafe environment. The room next to us was filled with younger patrons that began to kick down doors. The management did not handle the situation well. They had a master key but only opened doors of the pushier customers. Twice they walked past our room and said they couldn't open it due to the fact that they had promised someone else that they'd open their door first. When we finally did have our door opened it was simply the swipe of a card so we were left baffled as to why they couldn't have taken the second to do that hours ago when they passed our room. I would like to give this hotel another chance as the actual accommodations seemed good, but I will not pay the high prices for fear of having another experience like this one. A complimentary nights stay could definitely persuade me into giving the Renaissance another chance.

The Renaissance Hotel at Skydome in Toronto was not only a beautiful hotel, it was in a very convenient location. We enjoyed a Jay's game and then walked to dinner down by the Air Canada was great!

Six Very Fine Days in Toronto

from a410traveler
This is a very nice but not a wonderful hotel. as another reviewer stated, "It lacks a soul." The rooms are very large. The bed was comfortable and the Bathroom well stuffed with goodies. The Staff was very helpful. Now on the minus side, the halways are done in a putrid color and the carpet in my room (11th floor) had seen better days. The Diamond bar has a terrific view and good service and food. I was able to watch an european soccer match which was fun even though I'm not much of a fan.

Overall a good value for the money but the taxes are steep.

Great weekend in Toronto

from A TripAdvisor Member

A weekend getaway in Toronto is great. There are so many attractions is such a small space. The last time we had a weekend getaway in Toronto we parked the car on Friday night and walked from our hotel to all of the attractions, including a play, a blue jay game and a great dinner at a fine restaurant.

Very Nice

Went for the Red Sox Home Opener. Had a bi-level field view room. It was awesome. I was afraid it would look and smell like a party room...not at all. It had a king size bed, beautiful bathroom, very clean and great view of the games. The location is probably the best in the city. I found the staff extremely accomodating and pleasant. Pool area looked really great but we didn't have time try it.

Food in general in Toronto is outrageous. The hotel is no exception.

We did have a problem with our bathroom but they came and fixed it right away.

In general, a very nice up scale feeling hotel, great staff and awesome location. No need for a car if you stay here. Watch the taxes, they are on everything and high!.

I will add photos later when i get them back.

Fantastic idea

I fell in love with this place the first time I saw it. Best hotel I`ve ever stayed at.

Great location

from Zianne
This large modern hotel is fine, large rooms, most amenities one normally finds. It just didn't seem to have a soul. We stayed on the Executive floor but the lounge was closed for the weekend so they gave us breakfast vouchers instead. There was no fridge/mini bar in the room. We were given one small water bottle in the evening.
The location is great, walk to train station, air canada center, metro convention center, CN tower, etc.

Great fun at the Skydome

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Skydome is a great hotel. The rooms are clean, the staff are very friendly, and the decore is interesting. The rooms are big. I would not eat at the breakfest buffet as half the food wasnt cook and very little selction and to much $$$. The diamond bar is a great place to get a drink. They also have these neat in-room fitness kits. This is a great place in T.O.

This is a very great hotel to stay at. The always exceed my expeptation every time. We stayed from Feb.18-19 We had a King Size bed overlooking the RR tracks. With the auto show being on the hotel was full but you didnt here any noise. The room was very clean and staff very friendly. They were very kind and let us check-out late. This is the greatest hotel in Toronto. We will be coming again soon.

Your probley wondering why i'm calling this the roger centre hotel because a few weeks ago Rogers baught the Skydome and renmaed it Rogers Centre.

s Eve 04

from psod
Stayed here for New Year's Eve 04-05. When we arrived we were told that the double room we had reserved a month earlier was not available, and that we'd have to settle for a room with one king-sized bed instead of two queens. Miraculously, complaining to a manager produced the room that we had originally booked.

Overall the room was neat and tidy.

When we came back home at ~2am we were surprised to find most of the hotel guests standing around in the hallways. The electronic room locks had a problem, and nobody could get into their rooms. As expected, drunken antics ensued in the hallways and the place became rowdy pretty quickly.

The room doors didn't open until ~4am. The next day we complained about the inconvenience and they deducted $100 from our bill. Personally, I'd have rather paid full price and gotten a decent amount of sleep, but I guess $100 is better than nothing.

I would probably stay there again, as I'm sure the room locks malfunctioning was an isolated incident - but I'm not thrilled that they tried to unload a different room on us from the one we had reserved.

Neat to stay at the stadium

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Sky Dome hotel in September 2004. The service was very good, including the check-in/out, concierge, bellhops, valet, waitstaff, and housekeeping. Everyone was friendly, accomodating, and quick.

We were first given a field-view suite. It was neat to be so close to the field and players. Games were scheduled for both days we were there. The games really weren't our purpose, though, and we weren't going to be able to see them - so the possibilities of that suite were not as interesting as they might have been. Though clean, it was obviously a party room - slight odor and stains in the bathroom. Furniture was sparse with awkwardly open spaces - maybe to accomodate more people - and oddly arranged. It just didn't feel right. So, we switched to a city-view suite, which was just perfect!

All rooms (regardless of view) are built around the stadium, so we had an incredibly far (long and twisting) walk to both of the suites. It was a little strange, but do-able.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay there. I would choose a different hotel in the future, though, because I'm just not attracted to the novelty of staying at a baseball stadium (it sort of wore off of my husband, too). We paid for a regular room and were upgraded to a suite. I thought the regular rooms were reasonably priced, but I'd never pay for a suite there.

Top Local Tips for Toronto

Niagara Falls - Kings Tours I would recommend Kings Tours to take you to Niagara Falls for the day, we left at 9am and got back at 5pm. The driver/guide gave great commentary during the tour. It was only $80 each for the tour so well worth it as it includes a trip to a winery, trip up the tower at side of niagara falls during the winter. In better weather you get to go on Main of the Mist boat tour (all included in the $80) but this does not run in winter. I would not recommend going to the behind the falls tour in winter if they tell you one of the stages is closed as you cannot see anything but ice - really not worth it. The added option in this tour is a flight in a helicopter over niagara falls which Kings Tours get a discount so it is only $85 (despite on website saying $117 - you dont need to book in advance just do it with your driver on the day) each, approx £40, which is nothing for an experience of a lifetime. A definate trip worth taking whilst in Toronto

"Arriba" The Hotel Lounge This is a perfect and reasonably priced place to watch the ballgame from. The service is good and to my surprise there wasn't a sitting fee or an ordering minimum. I would imagine they would want you to order something, however, when one considers the price of a ticket to a ballgame, added to a beverage and snack, you really can't go wrong at Arriba.

pangaea for fine dining We were late for our reservations at pangaea, but the host couldn't have been more gracious. Having driven for hours to get there, he seated us in the window and brought us coffee. It was hot and delicious and just what we needed for what followed. The next hour was spent enjoying the view of pedestrians passing this Yorkville establishment and relishing some of the best food I've ever tasted. What a treat!
