A very nice hotel. Walking distance from downtown train station. Excellent Breakfast. Nice hospitality. I had a room with a back view on a parking garage which was not very nice. Overall stay was pleasant.

This hotel was our entrance for the travel in the eastern Canada and United States. Thanks to smart reception, quiet room and good service of the restaurant, we felt relaxed in this hotel in spite of the long flight from the far-east country.

Good Location... But Thats About It

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Novotel Toronto Centre for a weekend in February. It is an overall nice hotel. Our only disappointment was the size of the room. We paid roughly $170 for the night and the room was quite small. There was a king size bed, a table and couch, but not much walking space. The bathroom is a good size, a nice counter and full wall mirror.
I would recommend requesting a view for your stay. We enjoyed the view of the underground parking garage next-door. It's a good thing we were only in the room for sleeping! One plus was that the hotel was in a fairly good location. It is within walking distance to the hummingbird centre, hockey hall of fame, and local stores.
Check in was fairly quick, as was check out. We watched a movie when we returned that night, it's roughly $13. Oh and don't take anything out of the fridge or off the snack bar. Everything is placed on a censor and you will be charged as soon as you take it off the censor.
Overall it was an alright place to stay. The hotel is clean, nice atmosphere. I wouldn't return there though, it really isn't worth the money.

Upon arrival, my husband and I were greeted by the front desk clerk on duty, Sherif Serag. We offered our reservation information that I had made over the phone the previous week. We provided him with an American Visa Debit card to charge our room to. He stated that our card, after one swipe, was not recognized and would not be accepted. He then vexedly suggested that we find an ATM (no attempt was made to provide any inclination where a local back might be located) and withdraw the entire room amount for a 5 day visit in cash, in addition to a required daily deposit amount (approximately $1000 American). We informed him that we had stayed 2 nights previously in Canada and had not problems with using our card to pay for the previous hotel or any other subsequent purchases. He belligerently demanded "What do you want to do sir?!?" and turned his back on the both of us. My husband, overwrought that we had nowhere to stay and that our trip was ruined by a discourteous, insolent hotel attendant, called our bank from a payphone in the lobby and was told that there should be no issue w/ making any purchases on our debit card and that no record of any attempt to charge the card had been made by the hotel. I was slumped in a chair in the lobby, feverishly searching through a Toronto travel guide for nearby hotels to call and try our luck at a more hospitable establishment. My husband went to inform the uncooperative clerk that, according to our bank, he should have had no problem with our card and that the error must be entirely due to his incompetence. Luckily, the man was gone and two kind young women helped my husband and apologized for the inconvenience. This clerk nearly destroyed our vacation - a week intended to rest and celebrate my husband and my 5 year wedding anniversary. I regret to inform you that I decided to stay @ Novotel Toronto Centre due to the rave reviews on various highly trafficked travel sights, but I will be forced to leave a scathingly detailed account of this episode of contemptible customer service on every site that led me to stay with you in the first place. And, to note, we saw the clerk later on during the trip arguing with another patron, the customer was on his cell phone, obviously attempting to sort out the impudent mess that the incapable Sherif Serag (and, subsequently, your hotel) will soon be well known for. Thank you, Your ex-patron, Jennifer Palmer.

Another guest service agent actually checked these guests in and yes he did experience a technical problem with the credit card terminal which refused the card. therefore he had to clarify the hotel's payment policy to the guests. The guests were upset with the card being refused which I can completely understand as this creates an embarrising situation. We are happy to see that the other two female guest service agents were able to identify the technical problem and use the credit card as intended. we apologize for the credit terminal problem and would like to see Sherif's name removed from this comment as it does not do him justice.
The team at the Novotel Toronto Center takes great pride in servicing all our guests and we are very proud of the fact that we have been voted by Tripadvisor users in the top 5 of best value for money in Toronto among over 150 hotels for several years now.

My hubby and I spent our 5th wedding anniversary in Toronto and stayed at the Novotel Centre from March 25 to March 29, 2003. Since we opted not to rent a car we found the Novotel centrally located to many of the attractions we wanted to visit (CN Tower, the Habourfront, Financial District. St Lawrence Market - all were an easy walk from the hotel as was Union Station the gateway to the Toronto bus and subway system. The front desk staff was cordial and efficient and we were given a room despite the fact we arrived well before noon. The lobby is fairly large and comfortable. Albert the concierge is always happy to assist with info to make yoour stay enjoyable. The room we had was located on the eighth floor - not much of a view but we didn't need it - we were not going to be there much! The renovated bathrooms are a knock-out granite counter tops, over-sized vanity mirror and a funky adjustable shower head. The beds were firm and slept well. Over-all the room was well appointed (I did make suggestions to upgrade the closet doors and HVAC control). Novotel wins a "5" in our book!
Good Value, Enjoyable Stay

My nephews, 9 and 12, and I had an enjoyable stay at the Novotel Centre and got good value for our dollar. It cost us only $108 Canadian (taxes inc.) for the weekend and $119 (taxes inc. for Monday) through Expedia.
The view was not great, but the rooms were clean and spacious. We did not find the hotel staff warm and friendly, but then we found people in Toronto stiff and cool generally, unlike people in our home province.
The waiters in the Nicole Cafe, however, were friendly, though often very busy. The boys loved the Kids Menu. (Don't expect to see mascot Dolfie though. I don't think he even exists anymore.) My nephews claim the chicken fingers are the best they've ever had anywhere! The burgers, fries and French Onion soup are also scrumptious, but stay away from the Caesar salad. At least the one I had was blah!
The Internet station in the lobby area is very expensive... $2 for 10 minutes. Phone calls are also too high @ $1 per call out. Just use the pay phone near the gift shop. The gift shop is excellent, by the way.
The boys just loved the pool which was warm and never busy, but it is low season. The hot tub was great, never too hot, except the jets only ran for 5 mins at a time. Then you have to get up and push the button again. Just don't push the red button right above the silver one. One lady did and it set off a very loud emergency alarm. When I called the front desk from the emergency phone to tell them it was a false alarm, there was no answer for a full 3 to 4 minutes. (We were almost deaf by the time the maintenance man came.) Not a great response time if someone is drowning!
Anyhow, overall the Novotel was very good, and we would go back there in a heartbeat.

Great Hotel in a great city

I stayed in the Novotel over Presidents weekend and thought it was great. The room was big and clean, the people were friendly and the location was perfect! We were right around everything we wanted: Pubs/Restaurants, CN Tower, Air Canada Center, Hockey Hall of Fame, shopping etc. It was the perfect hotel for a weekend getaway. The only reason I'm not giving them Excellent is because when we checked out there were many mistakes on our bill. They were very good at going through everything and fixing things with me, but it was stressful and frustrating to end your vacation like that. Then when I got out to my car, there was a ticket even though I had just confirmed parking payment on my bill! They took care of it though. I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will stay there again in the future.

We stayed at the Novotel Toronto centre over the New Year's holidays.
Overall, it was a great value for the money, once you get over the worn carpets and dated room furniture. We had a superior King room, which I believe are all on the 8th floor, so you get a pretty good view. Also, these rooms come with free high-speed internet access, so it's very convenient. However, the internet access did not always work - especially in the mornings. When we questioned the front desk about it, we found out that they actually have less ports then rooms, so during "busy periods" it is very difficult to get onto the internet. The staff were excellent and very accomodating and changed our room when it was established that in fact, our internet connection in the room did not work properly. This took a few days to determine and they had to send about 3 people to the room to verify this fact, but once they figured it out, they were quick to offer us an equivalent room, with a pre-tested working internet connection. The second room had a much nicer layout, but was probably a bit smaller. The fact that this second room was not a corner room, meant that it included the attractive dormer windows that you can see from street level, which added a nice variation to the dimensions of the room - giving it a lot of character.
Normally, changing rooms would be a royal pain, but the staff took care of all the backend logistics for us so that the transition was painless, except for moving all of our belongings to the new room - they even gave us our keys ahead of time and took care of the computer info with the front desk for us. There's a convenient store in the adjacent building which is open til about 11 pm everyday, so it was very convenient to get things like bottled water or snacks. The best part about the rooms are the newly renovated bathrooms, they save the experience from being truly mediocre in lacklustre surroundings. When the hotel gets around to upgrading the rooms and the hallways, the stay can be upgraded to excellent. Also, in the second room, the individual room temperature control worked, so it felt much more comfortable to be in the room and less like a room that crawled out of the 70's. The room decor is bland at best, but the bathrooms are excellent and some of the finest and spacious that we have stayed in. Between the two of, we probably stay at a total of 15 to 25 hotels per year, so we get picky when it's our personal time and personal funds at a hotel.

I work in downtown Toronto and send all my clients to the Novotel! I have stayed there a few times myself for conferences. For the money (115$ CDN last check) it is absolutely central Toronto. Its a ten minute walk to the 'Entertainment District' which is where all the trendy bars, nightclubs etc are. Its five minutes to the Royal York )much nicer but two to three times the price) Restaurants galore and if you are a Theatre fan - all the shows are withing waling distance!
Rooms are spacious and if just ask the front desk for one with a 'new' bathroom.

Great location...within blocks fo everything...for the price I think impossible to beat and I travel 60% of the time...quiet location...tons of restaurants for families within walking distance...rooms are soso...need some upgrading...but not the bathrooms..five stars for those. Wouldn't hesitate to return.
The Novotel is Amazing

This hotel is really great for the money. The bathroom was beautiful, very spacious and the shower was big. Much better than any Holiday Inn - even on King Street. It is located very centrally in downtown yet is on a very quiet street. The restaurant is very good and the private pool is really nice. I would highly recommend it to anyone going to downtown Toronto that doesn't want to get ripped off by the cost of a hotel room.

Top Local Tips for Toronto
TTC Weekend day pass Get a weekend TTC (Toronto Transit Commission Day Pass) for around $8-9 and it lets two people get on and off the subway/bus as much as you want!
An option to touring... If you can afford the somewhat steep price, a nice option for seeing the city is the Greyline Bus Tour, which departs from right outside the hotel several times a day. Particularly having visited in the winter, when the bus was less full, it was a GREAT way to both see the town and hit the major tourist spots. A bus pass lasts for three touring days so you can use it to get from museum to museum. The tourguides were quite well-versed and gave good tours every day.
