Terrific hotel-luxury plus

We stayed at the Club level...our room was large and had a beautiful view of the lake,CN tower and most of Toronto. The concierge were most helpful and gracious to us. The pillow-top beds are so comfortable with their clean & beautiful duvet down comforters. The Club lounge provided us with complimentary breakfast and evening wine and hors d'oeuvres.
This hotel was the height of luxury. I would highly recommend it and will stay there again on our next visit to Toronto.

Nice Junior Suite

Overall this was a nice hotel. We had a junior suite with two rooms. It was relatively small however, and the bathroom was nice, but small as well. The front desk person knew me by name each time I went through the lobby. I went down to the bar and had 4 drinks and took 3 beers to our room and the tab was $80 which I thought was ridiculously overpriced. The location is best for business travellers and conventioneers but not ideal for leisure. Next time I think I'll try the other InterC or another chain, but overall this is a nice hotel.

Terrible service

OK room, terrible staff. There was a mix-up with the room rate and they would not work with me to have it resolved. I was quoted one rate over the phone when I made the reservation and then charged a higher rate upon check-out.

Because the reservation was made over the phone, I had no paper trail to prove the rate I booked. And since the reservation staff did not send me a confirmation by fax or by email, I was out of luck.

I would not recommend this hotel to others. If you have any troubles during your stay, don't expect any help from the staff.

Great hotel

My husband, daughter and I stayed at the Intercontinental on Front Street for 3 nights beginning 8/30. I hadn't planned to stay here but used Hotwire for the first time and agreed to a 4* hotel in Toronto centre for $88 - and then found out it was this one. I had read the reviews and prepared my daughter that swimming was not likely to happen at this hotel. There was so much to do in Toronto that it really didn't matter. The rooms were beautiful, soundproofed and certainly among the most spacious of any hotel. My family noted that the beds were incredibly comfortable with soft linens and comforters. Everything was immaculate. We arrived late and the concierge was found us an excellent nearby restaurant which still served dinner at 10 p.m. and called the restaurant to expect us. We erred in not using our cell phones. The hotel rates were outrageous, roaming charges would have been better. After complaining, they reduced the bill by half. The hotel location is terrific for the waterfront, restaurants, theatre, CN tower, skydome and Air Canada Centre. We never used our car. For our fourth night I had earlier arranged for a 1 night theatre/restaurant/hotel package and had chosen the Marriott Eaton Centre(based on reviews). We were unhappy to have to leave this hotel. The Marriott was not at all in the same league and I am not sure why it is rated so highly. I would highly recommend the Intercontinental on Front Street, especially if you can pay as little as $88 U.S. per night.

Snooty staff and insufficient amenities

My husband and I recently stayed at the InterContinental Toronto Centre when we were in town to celebrate our anniversary. Since we were going for a special occasion, it seemed like a good reason to upgrade to a club level room. While the rooms were certainly attractive, well-designed, and quiet with excellent sound insulation, the amenities allegedly offered as part of premium accommodation in club level rooms were hardly worthwhile. After spending premium funds for upgraded services and amenities, it seems ludicrous to have to do battle with other patrons over insufficient food supplies and clear away dishes from tables overflowing with the leavings of prior guests, since the lounge attendants can't be bothered either to freshen food stations or bus empty tables. Since the loung staff seemed snooty and unfriendly on top of being innatentive and only somewhat competent, that added insult to injury.

For a special occasion, one would be much better off booking an exec level room at the Meridien or the Hilton. Both the general hotel amenities and club floor amenities are markedly better in both cases, not to mention the service.

Good location, elegant modern decor, but with poor service

My wife and I spent a weekend at the InterContinental Toronto Centre, in August, 2004. We attended a festival at Toronto's Harbourfront, so the location was ideal.

We got a very good weekend rate through the InterContinental web site. Check-in was slow but relatively painless. As a Priority Club platinum member I was upgraded to a junior suite. Nice modern decor in the lobby and in the room. The hotel was recently renovated and upgraded from a Crowne Plaza to an InterContinental.

The problem with the hotel was the service level. It wasn't horrible but just indifferent. There were a number of lapses in service including: incomplete room service, tardy maid service, valet parking that wasn't and service calls that were not returned. While not enough to ruin the weekend, my wife and I were left the impression that the hotel was poorly managed.

We won't be going back to this hotel until we can be assured that the service level catches-up to other other, more positive, attributes of the hotel.

This is not your typical InterContinental hotel. The contemporary, SOHOish decor reminded me of the "W" hotel line, but only brighter, which is definitely a plus in our book. The on-site fitness center/gym is open 24 hours and has all the up-to-date equipment. The well-appointed rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful (which causes me to question if this is because the hotel runs such a tight operation OR because we were in Toronto which is known for their clean streets and friendly people?). In addition to, we had excellent views of Lake Ontario, CN Tower, and Super Dome from our room (the train tracks is something left to be desired, but the good thing is that you don't hear the trains coming into/leaving from the station from your room - we were on the 17 floor) . Anyway, we had some friends stay at the Fairmont Royal York down the street and we were so appreciative that we were staying at the InterContinental. Two complaints: 1) Don't bring children here expecting to swim all day. Pool hours are 7am-9am for kids or anyone else. The rest of the pool time is reserved only for SPA clients. Perhaps, the pool policy may vary on the weekday - we were there Aug. 20 (Fri) thru 22 (Sun)? 2) The air condition goes on energy-efficiency mode once you leave the room. So upon your return, it can be quite stuffy for the first 20-30minutes. Otherwise, a great place and we would definitely stay here again if the chance ever arises.

Good but cold

Stayed at the club level, which has its own private reception and food all day--breakfast, tea, hors d'oeuvres and drinks till nighttime. If you can go club level for a reasonable price, do it; you won't have to eat out all day and can have your run of the city, since the location is smack in the entertainment district.

The club level rooms are large and well furnished. The sitting chair/ottoman next to the window was better than the view, which is, incidentally, nothing to write home about.

That said, the service is cold, rarely more than professional (with the exception of club level concierge Vera). The surliness of a lot of the club level staff is rather striking, since you would think they would want to keep their business clientele. Perhaps the staff mistakes business efficiency for remoteness; either way, the food is pretty good. But don't spend too much more than USD $150 to stay here.

This hotel is great,,great location friendly staff,very kind front desk and a helpful Doorman.Lobby is beautiful..I dont know if the people from PHilly who wrote rudeness must have been a cheap you know what but for the money you cant complain not even the person who wrote my boyfriend was lucky to find a room..For the money its great one block over is the skydome,love baseball..ps I cant SAYYYYYYYYY "THANK YOU enough for a very clean room..thanks to the housekeeping dept..and whomever cleaned our room....god bless....we shall be back soon........

Top Local Tips for Toronto

Wine and Tapas Bar Loved Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar at 9 Church St. We sat at bar and watched chef at work as we tried different appetizer-size foods with perfectly paired wines (3 or 6 oz. They use fresh organic ingredients or home-canned and since they weren't too busy (we got there after the lunch crowd) the chef had time to talk while he worked so it was like a private cooking lesson. Could have stayed there all afternoon!!!!

RitchTree I LOVED IT. Its like fancy food .. almost supermarket style foodcourt.You walk around with a little debit card and each table you go to they charge you for what you get then you pay once you are done. Not expensive, fresh, you pick what cut of meat, how much, and how you eat your entire meal it was just an amazing expirence

360 Restaurant If you can fit it into your budget, eat at the 360 Restaurant in the CN Tower. The food and atmosphere is amazing.
