Great looking building on the outside. Our room, however, was dreary, dingy, uncomfortable and unpleasant. Convenient to subway, but a somewhat sketchy area. Decent price, but one of our less favorite memories of Canada.
By the way, none of those categories describe us. I'm 'mature,' she's 'young,' we're neither a family nor retired nor on business. We tried to save money staying with you, but spent more than 'budget travellers' elsewhere.

The Clarion Hotel was a clean cheap place to stay. Provided with continental breakfast and the staff was friendly. It is on the edge of downtown so location is good -- but just bordering on a somewhat sketchy neigbourhood. Beds were comfortable, air conditioning and wireless internet access (must pay)... If you're ok with spartan all white bathrooms (looked like a military bathroom)...then this is a place for you.
I would stay there again because 1. it's convenient 2. cheap 3. good location and 4. friendly staff.

Top Local Tips for Toronto
Niagara Falls Just a must! Do yourselves a favour and save the money for the pre-aaranged trips you can do from Toronto. Invest this money in a rental car and go there yourselves. You are more flexibel witrh the weather and everything and you will enjoy the free time you have.
Taxi Ask for a fixed price for a taxi to and from the airport.
Skip the normal areas for buying tourist stuff Check out China Town for tourist trinkets. Found shops with nice shirts (3 or $10) magnets ($1 there and $5 other places). Also enjoy dim sum there - it was excellent we ate at the China Dynasty
