I have to state that the Primrose Hotel is great for families. The outdoor pool was great for the kids and we didn’t have to pay for them in the room. The rooms were large and could comfortably accommodate a family of 4. The price was good too for a downtown hotel in the summer. Good place to bring the family as there is lots to do in the area.

Best Western Primrose in Toronto is very conveniently located with cheapest rates and free wireless internet in room. Good for a short and cheap stay.

Great deal, excellent views, not luxury but adequate

Location: Just off downtown but on streetcar route (15 mins walk to Eaton centre). Roadworks have now finished! Area is fine.

Rooms: Large room on 21st floor with south view and massive comfortable bed. Room and fixtures are dated and in need of a refurbishment but was clean enough.

Facilities: staff seemed ok, lifts were definitily slow - don't think they were all running.

Service: Checked in afetr 4pm and cleaner was still in the room finishing it off so we had to wait while she vaccumed round our ankles for a bit!

Food: Good restaurants in area - the egg place on the corner, Frans Diner on College.

Overall, for £35-£40 on expedia we couldn't complain really. Just don't expect spankingly shiny rooms and 5 star service!

Worst customer service in the world.

This hotel has the worst customer service. The rooms are old and cold. The heating system turn itself off every three hours. The parking lot is so narrow that barely one car can enter or exit at a time. In addition, even though, a parking space is assign to you, you do not have a reserved parking space. One night, I could not park in the garage because someone took my assigned parking space and they did not provide me with another space. Moreover, they charged me for that night and refused to refund my money. The manager at this hotel is very unprofessional and do not possess any customer service skills. They ruin my vacation...Do not let them ruin yours.

Great value and friendly, helpful staff

This hotel is a great value for the money and the staff are very courteous, helpful and friendly. What I particularly liked about the room was the exceptionally comfortable mattress. I have stayed in Marriott's, Fairmonts, and Sheraton's and the mattress is comparable to their quality. Be aware that the hotel doubles as a dorm for college students in the area. The students are polite and courteous and fit in well with the hotel. If you are an American you can get a flu shot down the street at Bay College Medical Center on Bay Street and Carlton for about $40 US.

Fantastic view - not a lot else to recommend it

Our room was on the 20th floor and had a harbour view. The room was spacious and clean. The public areas of the hotel were shabby and the lifts slow. The newly installed internet access didn't work, but the staff were very helpful about it and allowed us to use the computer in the back office.

The location is not great - just a bit too far away from the main highlights, and in the thick of gay bar territory. The roadworks on Carlton Street don't help either.

This hotel is ok, i've been in a lot worse. We stayed there in May this year and found the staff friendly and helpful. The room was huge but certainly not modern, but it had everything you could need - giant bed, tv, desk.... the location is not bad if you dont mind not being right in the center of things. It is only about a 10 minute walk to the eaton centre and all the hussle bussle. the only thing I will say is that the walls are paper thin! we were woken by moans and groans from next door at 4am! the lifts are bit old and wobbly as well.

This has got to be the most horrible hotel in Toronto. From the prostitutes and transvestites in front of the hotel to Zippers (the gay bar across the street) my stay at the Best Western Primrose was the worst part of my entire trip. The hallways of the hotel smelled of wet dog and cigarette smoke. The bed linens felt like sandpaper & the bathroom towels were thin, rough & in some cases, full of holes. There was an inch deep gouge in the dry wall of my bathroom where the towel rack was hanging. From the dirt in the corners of the bathroom to the dust & trash behind the sofa sleeper (which, by the way, was the most disgustingly dirty piece of furniture I have ever seen) I was appalled at the filth in my room. Then there was the fact that Carlton Street itself was in the middle of major reconstruction, without streetcar service and the nearest form of public transportation (the subway) was a good 1/2 mile away. Do yourself a favor & choose a different place to stay...you can find much better for the same amount of money. And if you factor in fares for the taxi & the amount of time you have to use to get downtown you can probably get a really nice place to stay.

Dilapidated and Smelly

When we checked into the Best Western Primrose, we weren't greeted with friendly staff. We reserved non-smoking king bed rooms which they weren't willing to give us, until some how they dug up 3 for us (we needed 4). I volunteered to take the smoking room until the next day at which point they would honor the king/nonsmoking reservation that we made. The smoking room they put me in smelled so bad I had to sleep with a towel over my face (the window didn't even open). But, I didn't even sleep that night because of how smelly and dirty the room was. Also, they were shampooing the hallway carpeting at 11:30 pm that night! I was moved to a non smoking room the next day, which sufficed, but it was also dank, old and just outdated. The towels had holes in them and were very old and extremely rough. Things around the room and hotel were broken, every floor had a distinct dank, unpleasant smell, staff not very informed or friendly, there were prostitutes outside. Overall a horrible experience. I should have heeded the other Trip Advisor reviews, because we could have had an economical stay at a nicer, safer and newer hotel.

This hotel was in an okay downtown location but still a fair walk from all things we wanted to see. I found the restaurant kind of expensive for the type of food. Nice pool with a lifeguard though. We got parking on site which was nice.

My sister and I spent two nights at Best Western Primrose last week and had a very pleasant time. The staff was very helpful, the room was spacious and clean and the restaurant was adequate. The best part was the location. Walking distance to shopping and the subway was only a few blocks away. I would definately recommend this hotel for the budget minded.

Shabby Hotel in need of make over

Stayed at the hotel from 3 July - 7 July 2004. Room not ready at check in, even though checking in later than usual. Hotel itself drab and in need of a make over. Rooms reasonably clean although yet again outdated, litter bags left lying in corridors for lengthy periods of time. Would not recommend unless price is prohibitive and even then much cleaner hotels in area for same cost.

Top Local Tips for Toronto

Tip about Canada's Wonderland Do NOT ride Top Gun! It looks like a smooth, fun, coaster, but it is badly designed and will snap you around. The three of us are roller coaster enthusiasts and this was our first coaster in the park. We were all literally in pain afterwards and it almost ruined the other rides for us that day. Food and drinks are very expensive for the quality (this ain't no Disneyland). I believe they let you bring in bottled water and you should do it. A bottle of Coke is $3.50, no cup, no ice, just like you'd get out of a vending machine. Best food value may be getting a full sub and splitting it for two. Didn't try the buffet so can't comment.

Toronto is a great destination I've been going to Toronto about once every two months for quite a while now, and really enjoy the city. It's large enough that there are always new things to do and things you want to do again. The weather is comparable to the northeastern United States, and the people tend to be very polite. Toronto is my favorite get-a-way destination, even in winter.

Go Here! There's a bar called O'Grady's and it had a Martini Madness night and the service, drinks, and fun was amazing!!
