We stayed at the Modern Motel twice, once on our way up the Graham Road and once on our way back to Sault Ste. Marie, the night before our trip back. Being the cheapest hotel we could find in Thunder Bay at the time, I'd say we got a good deal, it wasn't very fancy but the showers were warm, the room was warm, the bed was comfortable enough, it had a flushable toilet, and the staff was friendly. I'd definately go here again, but if I were going for anything other than hunting (like business or vacation) I'd say at something nicer, but for the outdoors man, it's a good deal when you're already spending so much money on gas.

Poor Service and Dirty

There was no service, in fact hotel was booked and there was note on door since the time we arrived to go down street to another hotel to pick up key... there were rips in center of floor of carpet, burn holes in sheets (non smoking room???) and shower was not clean. There was brown and black all over floor. When you showered, the smoke alarm would go off constantly... and I did not sleep on provided bedding, but slept on some picnic gear we had in the car instead. The sheets and comfortor had too many holes/stains for comfort. Pay the extra 10 or 20 dollars and stay in place near airport, or better yet go a little further and stay in beautiful Nipigon or Red Rock.
