Historical Traveller Reviews of Isaiah Tubbs Inn & Resort Hotel

Very over-priced

from WorldTraveller8360
We stayed at this resort for a weekend and found our $250 room very over-priced.

The room was dingy, contained a queen-sized bed, which was soft, a small pull-out bed and a cramped bathroom.

There was no hot water in the morning.

The views and beach were beautiful, however.

weird

from A TripAdvisor Member
I looked at all the rooms that were available. I was horrified as well at the dingyness of them. One room had ancient bunk beds that I wouldnt even let my dog sleep on. The pictures on their website are exactly what the rooms look like. I thought that perhaps that the pictures were just bad because of lighting/angles etc. However, they were not.
Its too bad because the spot is really beautiful. I was told that eventually all the cottages would be torn down with new buildings put up but not at the moment.
You must pay in advance for one night stay and the minimum is a two night stay. The price is terrible for these less than attractive rooms. If you cancel in advance there is still a twenty five dollar administrative fee.

Needs Renovating

from A TripAdvisor Member
Isaiah Tubbs is part way between a resort and a trailor park. The location is very pretty and the lake and beach are very picturesque. If you go, then stay in Beach Huts 701 - 704 as these are brand new. The rest of the site is in dire need of renovation, other rooms are dark and dingey. There are 2 pools although one appears not to be in use, the other is small but pleasant.
The restaurant is quite nice with a good variety of food, local area is pretty weird with a limited choice of restaurants and shopping.

The cost is high for the amentities offered. The staff are friendly but this does not make up for the overall poor standards. Locals do not rate the place and almost all suggested other, better venues where we should have stayed.

I hope Isaiah Tubbs read these reviews, because its location means it could truly be a great resort if they are willing to spend the dollars needed.

Beach Houses are Fantastic but quite expensive

from Antonia
We stayed in a Beach House for 4 nights which are nice because they are new and right on the beach. It is quite expensive but if the weather is nice it's worth paying a little bit extra for a beach house because the suites are terrible - very old and chintzy. Saying that some of the blinds had broken on the beach house so the resort does need some money spending on it.
As far as facilities are concerned, there are 3 playgrounds for children consisting of swings and slides and 2 swimming pools. One of the pools was full of stagnant water, rotting leaves and dead frogs during our stay but the other was ok.
The mid-week package was a good deal as you get a 3-course evening meal and breakfast included in the price and the food is generally ok. Staff are very friendly.

Cancellation Policy - What a Rip Off!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having eagerly anticipated our upcoming summer holiday, I took the initiative to book at the resort for 4 days. Once I had booked the holiday my wife checked reviews on the net and we became scared to death of all the comments about bugs, spiders, and the cleanliness, or lack there of! Unsure what to do, we decided to call right back and cancel. This was about ten minutes after booking. We were charged $25.00 for the privelege! This was probably the best $25.00 I ever spent (or ripped off on), because it spoke volumes about the way they do business. I was never told this was their policy. I was told they had a 2 week cancellation policy. Good thing I didn't end up going there!!

Dirty, Smelly Yuck!!!!

from cubbaaahhhg
"Beautiful" "top knotch".... perhaps if the last place you had stayed was a refugee camp....this place was a toatal ROYAL RIP OFF!! The rooms were dirty, smelly, the air conditioners hardly worked, our "suite" was so hot and stuffy because apparently the air conditioner couldn't prepell the cool air that far. The air conditioner was so noisy we could hardly fall asleep, and it leaked all over the floor. The bathroom was dingy and there was mildew around the bathtub. We were in a 'suite' with a kitchenette that we shared with tons and tons of spiders!! We stayed on the second floor and there were spider webs all the way down the corridors ~ just gross. The staff I will say were very nice and the poor receptionist, standing there while all the people checking out ahead of us told the same story... the bathrooms were dirty, the rooms were hot , yes sir, I understand sir, bla bla bla. The location is great but I would never stay here again, the price is just un-believable!! I'm going to stay in belleville where I know, although a 'chain' hotel, at least my room will be clean and cool. Don't do it, and if you do....bring flip flops because you DON'T want to walk around in the rooms barefoot.

BEST KEPT SECRET

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I went to this resort and I can tell you, these reviews do not do it justice. My best kept secret: the best time to go is in the winter! If you are looking for a secluded getaway, this is the place! The photos on the website do not do it justice.

The rooms with fireplaces are amazing! They are cozy and romantic. Some rooms have jet tubs for a relaxing spa like experience. The views from the restaurant and bar lounge of snow covered trees and the sunset reflecting on the glassy frozen lake takes your breath away. The package deal is amazing! You can pick any apetizer, meal and desert from the menu. (Its not a set meal choice). There is a few little hiking trails in Sandbanks park which is just down the street that make for peaceful walks before you head back to your room for a cozy evening by the fire.

This a great resort with excellent food and a picturesque location. I highly recommend it for a getaway from the everyday.

nice, but not worth what they are charging

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you are the type of person who has spent time at different resorts and hotels and expect more when you pay a higher price, you will most likely be disappointed with this resort.

While it is lovely, we have experienced much nicer rooms at the Travel Lodges and Ramada hotels we have visited. The room we stayed in normally rents for $239 a night (the classic I believe they said it was) however, we traveled with a large group and therefore, rec'd a substantial discount to $79 a night. I did feel it was worth this. Our room was equipped with a small fridge, but no iron or microwave 2 beds, and only 1 wooden kitchen chair. It was a good thing we had the control for the heat in our room as we could see right underneath our door to the outside. Our room was located on the second floor of one of the buildings which meant a steep climb of approximately 20 narrow steps. If you have difficulties with stairs, you will definately want to ask for a ground level room! Parking was on the other side of the building which meant we had to struggle with our luggage around the building and then try to navigate the stairs with my husband's bad back.

If you are going with a group that will be having their meals at the restaurant, make a note that this is in a SEPERATE building. We were not told this and did not take appropriate dress coats to travel from our room to the building for dinner.

The resort boasts a heated "in-door" pool, but fail to describe that it is just an out-door pool under cover and you must travel outside to get to it. (We promply changed our minds when we saw this as we could not imagine coming outside soaking wet and rushing to our room!).

The food was wonderful though, although we felt the juice was watered down substantially. The staff was curtious and friendly and did everything they could to make us feel welcome.

Overal, if the room was paid for, we would love to visit this resort again. If we had to pay, I think we would look for a different alternative.

beyond disappointed

It was dirty and over priced for what was being offered. When we tried to get another room they were the same or worse. I refused to stay so at seven o clock at night we were forced to find another place and did the Merrill inn and by the way much much better....clean wonderful experience. You should also note that if you are unhappy in anyway at Isaiah Tubbs they still take you money and will not give you any refund they appear not to be interested in customer satisfaction. So look before you buy once they have your credit card they leave you with no options.
Buyer beware!!!!!!!!

Not too bad...

from beachcomber09
I understand many of the 1* reviews on this website. When most people think of a 4*, resort, they don't expect something like Isaiah Tubbs, but rather an elegant, large, put-together hotel.

ROOM
A normal room is a bit small, considering the price we paid for it. Another night, (not sure the name of the room) we stayed in a large suite with a queen size bed downstairs and 2 single beds upstairs (the "loft"). Unfortunately, the loft didn't have A/C which made for an extremely hot and uncomfortable night.

RESTAURANT
I'm not quite sure about the bad reviews for the restaurant. Unless everything changed within a month, there's no excuse for a bad review of the restaurant. The prices were reasonable, if not, above average. The selection was decent with a seafood, meat and pasta dish in addition to others and very good appetizers and desserts. The lounge is also great for a cocktail and to relax.

BEACH
While not as spectacular as it's made out to be, the beach isn't all bad. Although it is very rocky when you walk out, so I recommend watershoes. If you want to go swimming, though, I recommend the $11 and spending a day at Sandbanks.

POOLS
There are apparently 2 pools at Isaiah Tubbs Resort. There's one outdoor pool that's lovely and heated. There's also an "indoor" pool (it's not really indoors, just sheltered), that's huge and nice. The only problem with the indoor pool is that it's ALWAYS closed. We've been to Isaiah Tubbs for the past 4 years and only once was the indoor pool open. Real shame considering the price paid for this hotel.

LOCATION
Isaiah Tubbs has an excellent, central location in Prince Edward County. Only a short 5-10 min drive from both Bloomfield and Picton, and about 25-30 minutes from Belleville. I recommend spending the day in Belleville if it's raining, as there is not much to do in PEC on those rainy days. Isaiah Tubbs is located 2 minutes down the road from Sandbanks Provincial Park's Sand Dunes, which are HUGE and beautiful. The resort also has a great location overlooking the dunes. ITR is only a few minutes down the road from the main entrance to Sandbanks and its magnificent beach.

OVERALL
Overall, fairly nice hotel. Does need a few touch-ups and really does resemble a campground. Good location and restaurant, but not worth the price. I'd return, but only because the other alternative hotels in PEC are bed & breakfasts. If you're willing to do make the extra 30 min drive, stay in Belleville if you can.

Top Local Tips for Picton

Sandbanks The beach is beautiful, and the water is clean. It's a very busy place, though, so get there early.

The Beaches The best beaches are at the Sandbanks Provincial Park - beautiful dunes, and well worth the price of a parking permit needed to use the park.

Great place to eat Try the Waring House on the West side of Picton.
