Amazinnnnggg Hotel!!!

Booked this hotel through Hotwire and received almost 75% off. Was expecting mediocre room as price was so low, asked for a room with high floor and was astounded when we entered the room. Amazing space in room, not cramped like other hotels, and gorgeous view overlooking the entire Byward Market and University of Ottawa. You could go shopping in your PJs if you wanted and Rideau Shopping centre could be accessed from inside the hotel without ever stepping outside. Staff treated us incredibly well and made our stay extremely memorable. It was the perfect way to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. We will definitely be back soon!

Expected more from a Westin...

Recently stayed for six nights on business. I travel extensively during the year for business and several times a year for leisure. Overall, room was very comfortable - Heavenly bed and heavenly bath are heavenly. However, must point out that housekeeping was sub-par. While my room was made up properly, I noticed that the carpet was not vacuumed once during my stay. In addition, table tops were not wiped down. Finally, room service arrived late three out of five mornings (i.e. 25 minutes), twice with the wrong order. Not normally a problem if I didn't have early morning meetings to attend. I spoke with Service Express each time re: the timeliness and it never improved. They offered to take the meals off my bill but I would've been happier if I had the proper breakfast that I ordered the night before (I went to two of my meetings without eating anything except for some energy bars I brought from home). I expected much better service from a Westin. If you are staying here as a tourist, I think it's a good location and a perfectly fine hotel. But it did not suit me as a business traveler.

My wife and I just returned from Ottawa after spending 4 nights at the Westin. The cleanliness of the room, the view of Parliament, the "Heavenly Bed", "Heavenly Shower", and every member of the staff were absolutely incredible. This was by far the best lodging experience we've had.

We opted to upgrade to the Deluxe room featuring a view of Parliament and the Rideau Canal. The extra $50 was well worth it. We often found ourselves gazing out the floor-to-ceiling window at the spectacular view (especially at night) we had from the 20th floor. The "Heavenly Bed" was equally nice and every visit back to the room typically involved at least 10 minutes of relaxation on the puffy pillows and comforter.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with answering questions and providing directions. We did not encounter a single rude person at the hotel, or Ottawa for that matter. For instance, the valet provided us with detailed directions to Gatineau Park in QC and then requested we call the hotel if we got lost and ask for him directly.

The only negative aspects of our stay occurred on the last day. We were woken up by the fire alarm at 8:30am, which in a way was okay because we had already slept long enough. Again, the "Heavenly Bed" had swallowed us up. The other negative was the Express Checkout on the TV was not available and we were forced to checkout at the front desk by speaking to a very nice staff member. The last negative was during checkout when we found a $14 charge for using the wet bar....I drank two beers during our stay! Be careful about what the price list says an item will cost. They don't include the dozen or so taxes that get tacked on.

Oh yeah, valet parking is an add'l $25 per day but you can come and go as many times as you please.

All in all a great experience and we highly recommend staying at the Westin. For those people who posted completely negative reviews, all I can say is they must have stayed at a different hotel.

Enjoyed our two night stay at this hotel. Had an upgraded room with canal/parliament hill views. Was in the perfect location for walking to Ottawa attractions.

Staff were wonderful, rooms were clean, large and comfortable.

The pool is small for the size of the hotel, but nice.

The restaurant was terrific and was very accomodating, making our son a special dinner and serving him first.

I am also puzzled by the $4.50 botlle of complimentary water? WHY? Also, why a $12.50 travel kit? I also think the larger hotels should consider free internet access. If Courtyard can provide it...why not Westin?

Otherwise a terrific hotel!

The Westin is probably the best located hotel in Ottawa. Situated along the Rideau Canal in downtown, it is a stone's throw from the Performing Arts Centre and Parliament Hill, and is part of a mega-complex comprising the Rideau Shopping Centre and the Ottawa Convention Centre. There are many restaurants and bars in the area, especially around By Ward Market about 5 minutes' walk away. The hotel is standard Westin, with their marketing spiel of "heavenly" beds in their rooms. I did find the bed in my room very comfortable. For the internet pre-paid rate of C$149+tax, I got upgraded through the Gold Preferred Guest program to a large room overlooking Parliament Hill and the canal. My room was very clean, and I liked the toiletries which had an invigorating herbal aroma. Small touches like a bathrobe and overnight shoe shine were much appreciated. The staff manning the "Service Express" line were quick to answer the phone and were helpful and responsive to my queries. The only thing to watch out for, is the bottle of mineral water sitting on the writing desk is not complimentary but costs C$4.50, even though the neck label suggests so by saying "this bottle... is for your enjoyment". The front desk says they are going to change the labeling, but in case they haven't yet when you read this, don't be duped.

Our family 2 adults/2 kids stayed at the Westin Ottawa for one night onm 16jun 04. Love the service the in-staff provided....the guy was so helpful...name is IAN...he educated us on a lot of things....food/restaurant/attractions...etc.

Concierge was ok......she was brain-dead that day though....couldn't keep her thought process...it was June and she kept on saying May....lobby is not so great for a Westin..except for the chandelier.

Had requested n confirmed the rideau canal view but they gave it to somebody else and we had to settle for the grubby city view....on the 10th floor...definitely not happy with that.

Hotel n staff are really nice though....nonetheless an overall nice hotel.

Before going there I checked these reviews, I gotta say, some of the bad ones where the complete opposite of what we experienced. WHAT a GREAT City, the people where polite and friendly, the hotel was most acccomodating and helpful. I must say, I would definitely stay at the Westin again and again and again! Truly nice people, thanks for the nice stay.

The Westin Ottawa does go the "extra mile" to make families welcome!
Our room had a spectacular view of the city. The price for a traditional room was very reasoneable. We used our CAA card (AAA in the states). We got a king bed with a nice sofa in the room. Our washroom had granite counter tops, double shower heads for a luxurious shower, nicely appointed photography throughout the room to add to decor. We enjoyed the fluffy duvet, fluffy pillows and towels.

The restaurant on the 3rd floor (Daly's) had a kids menu. While we dined on exquisite gourmet food, our little one enjoyed his chicken fingers and enjoyed drawing with crayons supplied.

The atmosphere was really relaxed and unobtrusive (refreshing!).

My child enjoyed the heated indoor pool as well as sneaking in a dip in the whirlpool.

Also on the 3rd floor is the Rideau Centre. For the avid shopper, this is your hotel!!! You don't have to step out into the cold to drop cash...The hotel is directly attached to the mall. I went shopping without lugging my winter jacket.

We had excellent check-in service and check-out as well. We had a very late flight on our departure day and we were given a "pass" key to enjoy the pool area at no extra cost for as long as we required.

I must mention a very smart service that Westin had. They called it the KidsClub. They had at least 20 kids short stories (lasting from 3-7 minutes) recorded on a telephone extension. You just had to punch in the extension of the story you wanted to hear. (Some were in English, French, Spanish or Japanese). It was brilliant. Our child enjoyed that service the most!!
We put it on speaker phone while he colored. The stories were rated by age group.

Overall, the staff we encountered was extremely friendly, courteous and very helpful. The wonderful service was consistent throughout. Also, the rooms were clean, very well decorated and best of all, made us feel like royalty!

Stayed at the Westin for Winterlude. A very nice rooms with wonderfully comfortable beds. Rooms overlooking the Canal provide a wonderful view of the city, especially at night. The weekend package included valet parking and buffet breakfasts for two adults. Great breakfasts and lunches. The hotel ended up not charging us for our three kids (5 years of age and under). Overall, a wonderful stay and will go back. If I had to nit pick, my only "negatives" would be a) a bit of a line up at check in and b) the pool area is looking a bit tired and needs to be freshened up.

skating on the Rideau canal It's really fun to skate along the rideau Canal..but BRING your skates. The line up for skate rental is looooonnnnnngggggg!!!

Ottawa's Winterlude - Best family thing to do in the Northeast in February Winterlude is awesome. Largest skating rink in the world. Free Ice carving and snow carving competitions that are amazing. Free concerts on the ice (great variety - techno to celtic). Reasonable food prices and lots of other attractions in the area.

Azteca - Byward Market Saw this restaurant my first time in Ottawa, and my partner & I thought "Mexican food in Ottawa??!" Being from Texas and SanDiego respectively, we were prepared for something pretty poor, but thought we'd give it a try. THE BEST AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD I'VE HAD IN CANADA OR US. Serious MexicoCity style food - amazing mole, nopales dishes, micheolada drinks. The real deal. And priced very well. This place has become about 25% of all meals when I go to Ottawa now!!!
