This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed. We reserved it because they had this summer special and the price was great. Usually the rooms cost more at other times of the year. The rooms were small but so comfortable. The design and decorations were so elegant. We spent about 2 hours taking each other's pictures inside the hotel because it was so nice. It is in relatively close proximity to Ottawa's attractions and the old city. We had a great time in Ottawa and in this hotel. The only problem I had was the room was quite cold and I could not figure out how to turn off the central air conditioning for about half of the night. Then when I finally figured out, I had only couple of hours of sleep left. But it was fun anyway. If they will offer the same price, we would stay there again!

Very rude and unprofessional front desk staff

This hotel employees front desk staff that are rude and unprofessional. Since front desk staff are in customer facing roles, should'nt the hotel be employing people with good interpersonal and customer service skills? I won't stay at this hotel or recommend it to anyone.

Welcoming and elegant

We always enjoy staying at the Minto because the rooms are large and elegantly decorated. Everything one needs for a comfortable stay is provided and it is close to all the city's attractions. The service is always couteous and welcoming. The Minto is one of our favourite hotels and we plan to continue going there.

Uncomfortable beds

We stayed at Minto Suites with our 3 children in a 2 bedroom superior suite.
While the kitchen and separate bedrooms were convenient, the beds were the most uncomfortable we've ever slept on. We all spent 2 sleepless nights tossing and turning trying to get comfortable. The pull out couch that my youngest kids had to sleep on had springs that you could feel just by running your hand over the mattress. If you don't have a bad back when you get there you will when you leave! When I complained to the front desk, she said they had recently renovated and all the mattesses are new!!?? We will not return to this hotel just because of the beds. Also, the pool floor is under renovation, and to get to the pool you have to walk through what seems like a mile of dirty construction, drywall, etc. The last hour at night from 9-10 is swimming for adults only...after checking in on Friday evening we hit the pool with our kids only to be turned away by the attendant, even though at the time, the pool was completely EMPTY. Try to explain that to a 4 and 5 year old. Can exceptions not be made if no one else is using the pool??

Stayed at the Minto September 2-5 2005, for a family wedding in a two-bedroom suite. While the hotel itself is looking spectacular after a large renovation, which included moving the lobby from the second floor to the first floor. The rooms are large and well equipped.

A couple of things, however, prevented the hotel from receiving a 5 star rating:

- Housekeeping: Two days in a row, we returned to the room at 3 PM to find the room not made up. We had been out of the hotel since the morning and had allowed more than enough time. A call on the last day to housekeeping received the response "what time would you like your room made up tomorrow?" Too little, too late.

- Walk from parking garage to hotel elevators: While there's not much the hotel can do about this, the walk from the parking garage elevators to the hotel lobby/elevators is lengthy and poorly marked, especially for a hotel of this supposed calibre. An annoyance, especially with a large amount of luggage.

Otherwise, the hotel's a great place - the two-bedroom suites are nice and large and comfortable for a family. The hotel is a short walk to Parliament Hill and the parking on weekends is an inexpensive $5, with in/out privileges. I would recommened the hotel, however take into consideration the comments above.

We just returned from a trip to Ottawa. We stayed at the Minto suites and we thought it was a great place to stay. The people who worked there were very friendly and the hotel itself was very clean. The rooms were spacious and very clean. I will definatley go there again. I recommend this hotel too all for a very comfortable vacation. And may I say that the vacation package plan was a deal also. Thank you Minto place suite hotel for making our vacationa a memorable one...........

Designed for business travelers, but great for families

I stay here a few times each year for business. And it is great for that purpose (huge suites with full kitchen and full laundry, room service, a 24-hour convenience store, many coffee shops and restaurants in building, good sushi restaurant and excellent tapas bar within a block). Close to all the government buildings.
But it would be fabulous for a family, especially the two bedroom suites (two separate bedrooms and a huge living/dining area with sofa, tvs in each of the rooms).

The walk to the Parliament buildings is short--maybe 10 minutes. About 20 minutes to the Byward market, but it is certainly a pleasant walk at the end of a day of meetings. Have stayed at the Courtyard in the Byward market area and that's a fabulous location, but it is noisy--whereas in the Minto, it's very, very quiet.

Good desk staff with courteous and helpful attitude. Recommend this hotel to all Ottawa visitors.

As per usual, Minto Place is the best suite hotel in ottawa. After a recent trip to the capital, i'm always amazed about the staff good humour, kindness and overall accomodating nature. It's also been beautifully renovated. New doors, new rooms, and a new lobby to come. Simply wonderful

It was nice experience to stay at Minto, perfect location ( 10 min to Parliament ) staff were nice, studio room was big, clean and well design, plus little kitcken that so efficient. For the price i paid, this is the best hotel in Ottawa.

I didn't want to write a review initially, but I guess I wanted to reply to the lady who gave the hotel a bad review because of her cash deposit story! I couldn't believe my eyes that she was actually putting the hotel responsable for her stupidity. I've managed hotels, and travelled all around the world. Every, every, every hotel in a fairly large city will ask a guest for a credit card on a reservation first, and will ask for a credit card again upon checking in. The lady I've read lacks this comprehension, and is blaming the hotel for it. She should stay at the Sheraton instead if they are willling enough to accept her stupidity. This is why I'm rating excellent instead of above average, to counter her lack of intelligence.

Minto is great for business, perfectly located close to government building and is able to suit your corporate needs with their corporate building. Staff is knowledgable is courteous, and facilities are all on site! Cafeteria downstairs is inexpensive and quick, restaurant is good and there's even a budget rental car in the building! I would recommand Ottawa's best hotel to anyone.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel: suite rooms at very reasonable rates. It's a bit of a walk to the downtown shopping area. I would consider staying there again.

Sorry people.....
I dont see what is so special about this place.
The service was absolutely horrible and this hotel is nowhere near the Rideau Centre/Byward Market etc.
A half an hour walk in the cold is not my idea of fun, especially since we walked by at least 20 hotels on the way there.
This place has seen better days.

I go to Ottawa several times a year for business and this is the best place to stay in the downtown's west end. Front desk staff were friendly and very accommodating (printing out several pages of a presentation from my flash drive at no charge). The room was spacious (except for a relatively small closet), spotless, and recently redecorated. Pool was clean and big enough to do real laps in. And breakfast at Noah's had really good service.

parking travelling on the weekend, park your car in the indoor hotel parking for $4 and walk to all the sites and attractions only 10 minutes away...great exercise for all the great food you will be enjoying during your stay

canadian war museum allow a good 3 hours or more- superbly presented museum and I spent 5 hours without even noticing.
