ARC is a hip, boutique-style hoytel in the heart of Ottawa. It is well-located for business meetings in the commercial core. The staff are professional and helpful and the hotel makes a point of getting the small things right (chocoltaes on the pillows, a CD library, coffee makers, robes, apples, water in the rooms, etc.) The rooms themselves tend to the smallish but are quite elegantly furnished and comfortable. The hotel restaurant is a bit avant garde for most tastes, but it boasts a very pleasant fireplace and bar area as well. My only complaint with the hotel has to do with exterior noise. The hotel is located on one of the major bus routes and road noise is an issue. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel to minimize this.

I great place to stay. Rooms a bit small, but you get lots of ammenities. Free Green apples, godiva chocolate, wine and chocolate at arrival. Aveeda products...and the list keeps on going. The lounge wsa great too. I did not even feel like I was in Ottawa or in a hotel. Loved it!

money well spent

from smom
We went to Ottawa the first weekend in Aug without a reservation. At first we looked at apartment style hotels on Cooper St. and had every intention of staying there but the hotel we had choosen had raised the rate of a "penthouse" by $60.00 per night with the explanation that the rates had just been increased from their posted rates on the net. Needless to say we were put off and decided to try out The Arc hotel that I had looked into before our trip.

When we arrived to inquire about a room it was right at check out time and very busy but the staff gave us all their attention and even showed us every type of room they had available for the night.
As others have said the rooms are smaller than the chain hotels offer, but the decor and amenities are fantastic and what we would expect.

We decided to stay in a King size room with a roman tub and with all the walking in Ottawa it was worth the extra $.We were able to check in early and also we were able to check out late 3:00 pm. The location was great and within a 5-15 min walk of most attractions. We were given suggestions of places to eat and they were superb!

The only thing was we thought that the parking was expensive but if you think about it we had two full days of downtown supervised parking!

We would definately stay at this location again and would recommend it to anyone who is travelling without children.

s the little things...

Champagne and chocolate when checking in, your own mini system, Starbucks coffee & Tazo tea, Aveda products, a comfy duvet, your own business cards...

The ARC is certainly a boutique hotel - offering the little things that make many want to be a repeat guest.

The rooms are quite small, but the modernity, comfort, style and, yes, the little things of the ARC made me like the fact that it was so different. I like the trade-off: small and chic instead of big and corporate.

If you aren't bent on having a large, typical hotel chain room (you know the ones I'm talking about), I'd recommend the ARC because, well, sometimes it is the little things that count.

How Preferred Hotels includes this property in their association is beyond me. So called Junior Suite had a bathroom the size of a broom closet. Hanging space inadequate in the summer and must be impossible in the winter with heavy coats. Two,
count'em, two small drawers in the whole room. Frustrated nudist colony?

Bar staff is great, but breakfast staff was on a permanent slowdown and the music is enough to bring back movie memories of prisoner interrogation. Anvil chorus?

After two nights, we gave up. Got a deluxe room at the Chateau Laurier at the same price with huge closets and a powder room in addition to the regular bath. No "James Dean" wannabees in black t-shrits either.

Ottawa is a wonderful place but give the Arc a miss. It's a home for the terminally "hip" who
need a reality check.!

You should stay at this place!

My husband & I just returned from a 2 night stay at the ARC. Your other favorable reviews were right on target about this place. Cozy, intimate, clean and classy! Excellent, friendly, helpful staff. Wonderful, tastefully decorated rooms, lobby and restaurant. Very reasonably priced . Turn-down service at night with Godiva chocolates, bottled water and a green apple. Lights turned on low in room and music playing on a relaxing radio station made a great "welcome home" after 2 long days of sightseeing in drenching rains. Breakfast menu was very limited but unique and delicious. Served in a relaxing atmosphere with top notch staff. Newspaper at our door each morning too.
Definitely not a "family" for adults only!

My fav hotel ever!

This hotel saved me from a horible stay I was having at another hotel in Ottawa!!! What a COOL hotel!! Yes the room I had was smallish it was so beautiful and relaxing!! They even gave me Godiva chocolates upon turn down service. The room had a CD Player with CD's to borrow at the Front Desk. The staff were super cool & very friendly. The amenities were AMAZING!!!!!!! I will not stay at any other hotel when I stay in Ottawa now. THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

My stay, June 8 - 10, was a disappointment. Underneath the hotel's stylish decor is an aging infrastructure that requires a lot of serious, and disruptive work.

The worst aspect of this occurred at 7 a.m. on a Thursday morning when an incredible pounding noise made me wonder whether the building was about to come down. Turns out that roof repairs - which had been ongoing over the last two weeks - were scheduled to begin at that hour and no advance notice had been given to guests occupying rooms on the hotel's top floor.

Management apologized, and provided a complimentary breakfast - which was also below par - soggy waffle and frozen strawberries (at a time when fresh strawberries were in season). I would not stay at this property again.

I've stayed at arc three times in the last year and its always impressed me as a nice but average hotel.

The location is great, and most of the staff is very helpful. Some are extremely snooty for some inexplicable reason. Twice, upon check-in they gave me the wrong, shoebox sized, room when i'd booked and paid for a delux. Although they did rectify the mistake, the man at the desk seemed really put out and annoyed by me.

The bathrooms are on the small side and the decor is nice/modern but not on par with other boutique hotels I've been to.

Whether you'll like this place depends on your frame of referenece. If your expecting a 4-star boutique like you'd find in NY, London or Toronto then you'll be dissapointed. But Arc is the nicest place i've stayed in Ottawa.

Always great

I've stayed at the ARC in Ottawa at least a dozen times and have never been disappointed. The service is second-to-none, each member of the staff goes out of their way to make sure your needs are met. The rooms are small, but that's normal in a boutique hotel. The beds are well beyond comfortable and the Aveda products in the bath are quite nice too.

Wonderful stay at the Arc

from gigger47
What a wonderful place to spend a winter getaway in the nation's capital. After many delays at my home airport and having to change my reservations multiple times as a result of the horrible weather, the Arc was a pleasant surprise. Check in was quick, staff were so welcoming and really went out of their way to make me feel at home. The room, well, can't say enough about it.....more than ample space, amazing sheets (yes, amazing), great place to relax. No view to speak of through my huge window, but it's much more interesting to go out and explore than just look through a window anyway. This was my first trip to Ottawa and to the Arc, but won't be my last.

Fantastic Hotel !!

The whole experience was amazing. I have never been to a hotel that the staff went out of their way to make sure your stay was the best ever.
They were accomodating and polite. Wow. I will be staying there everytime I am in Ottawa. Great job and thanks to all at ARC The Hotel.

Top Local Tips for Ottawa

Street parking Parking in Ottawa is free at metered spaces on most streets after 5:30pm.

Go to the Market for great food The old market area in central Ottawa has been regentrified and walking past the many quasi English pubs, you'll finally arrive at the more interesting restaurants especailly in Cleveland Street and further back. Watch out for the endless coffee shops in Ottawa. Don't forget there's a French hereditary here and so the coffee is a little more bitter than in New York.
