Historical Traveller Reviews of Albert at Bay Suite Hotel
Wonderful suite hotel
The suite was large, clean and comfortable. The staff were courteous. Parking was included in the room rate. I stayed here for the Ottawa Marathon weekend and the hotel was about a 15 minute walk away from the start line. I would definitely stay here again!
Great hotel for family vacation
We were two adults and two children (ages 2 and 3) that stayed at the Albert at Bay Suite hotel the week-end of May 5/06. The staff is friendly and the suite was large and impeccably clean. The desk provided welcome bags of toys for the kids-a very nice touch. The hotel is very nice, however it is a fair walk from hotel to the byward market and considering it rained a lot that was a drawback. The restaurant attached to the hotel -"the Bay street Bistro" was only average , good variety of items but nothing delicious. Overall, given price, the hotel is excellent and probably one of the best deals u can get in Ottawa.
Visited Ottawa weekend of May 5th,6th,7th with wife and two children (4 & 2). Suite was just the right size for family of 4. Nice layout. The hotel is located in the western part of town and removed from shops, restaurants, markets, etc. This good and bad. It's good in that you will do lots of walking but bad if the weather doesn't comply. One of the great things about Ottawa is the transportation system. Their bus system is unmatched around the world. Always on time and they can bring you anywhere in the city. Unfortunately on our visit we had inclement weather and walking in the rain wasn't fun. The hotel staff is very friendly though services and amenities are few. The workout center on the roof is small but adequate. No pool, no door men. Stripped down but well done.
Just like TripAdvisor says!
I wanted to stay at a 5 star hotel for Valentines weekend with my boyfriend but decided to stay at Albert at Bay due to the perfect TripAdvisor rating. I loved that we could cook and have a full kitchen, living room, bedroom, etc. for only $140 a night, compared to a 5 star that $400 a night for a small room with a bed. Albert at Bay was every single great word TripAdvisor said it would be. My boyfriend and I were so so so very impressed! The front staff was so helpful and kind. You could buy wine in the restaurant attached to the hotel, there is a 24 hour store next door as well, the room was flawless. HUGE room, actually between the kitchen, dining room, livingroom, bathroom, and bedroom...there was not one thing I would change. The price was unbelievable as well, $140 a night, for all that space and comfort was amazing. The cleaning staff ACTUALLY loaded the dishwasher, started it and everything was clean when we got back from lunch!! You can't get that service anywhere else that I have been to!! I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone.
First Choice for Family Travel
We were blown away by the sheer size of the suites and the friendly service was an added bonus. Most hotel website photos highlight the premium rooms and reality can be a disappointment, but not in this case! We have already booked our next holiday at this hotel this summer. From the comfort and cleanliness, to the great Bistro downstairs and the handy attached convenience store. This hotel meets every need that any family might have while staying in Ottawa and we can't recommend it highly enough.
Top Notch.....just as the reviews said....
The Albert at Bay is excellent. Great service, rooms almost too big. Two bathrooms, extra clean and modern with granite countertops. This is one suite I would consider for 4 adults with comfort and privacy. Too bad because the extra den room could easily be a second bedroom as opposed to the pullout. The restaurant adjacent is very good and you are very close to all the action. The rooms were a bit loud with street traffic noise, but in fairness, the area had just had an ice storm and there was alot of work to be done overnight to keep the streets clear. The Winterlude festival we attened was wonderful. I would recommend the canal skating as well as Jaques Cartier Park venue for the ice sculptures and ice slides. No photos sorry but our room was exactly like the web photos. Very fun.
Wonderful staff, beautiful room and extra service on our special day
This was a night to remember.... after having such a wonderful stay at Albert Bay in November, we decided to go back over New Year's weekend. At the beginning of Dec. we had decided to elope over that weekend. We looked into (yuck) getting married at City Hall but they were booked solid. After poking around on the internet I was able to find an official who would do the service if we could find a spot. I called the hotel and asked... strangely... if we could get married in our room! They agreed. We had a small party of people coming, and the fine staff (ESPECIALLY Michael) helped us in every way possible, bringing us everything from champagne buckets to extra chairs. We decorated the window with twinkle lights and moved all the furniture. Michael went beyond the call of duty bringing us table covers, etc. and would NOT accept a tip. It was an amazing night, and I will forever cherish Albert Bay for not only being the spot I tied the knot, but for being such gracious people to help us thru it all. Huge room, great price, nice location.

We travelled to ottawa with two teens to take tours of algonquin and unn of ottawa and decided to stay for a bit of family time for the weekend.
Everyone loved the hotel and thanked me for finding it but of course we owe it to trip advisor
We made some awesome food in the full kitchen
and also ate at the bistro in the hotel which was excellent. My son loved the gym and was there three times. The room was beatiful with lots of marble and very clean. It was very big with two tv's, internet,
thick towels, dining room, living area, even pots, pans
and dishwasher. We paid 119 with caa card.
It was quite cold and I was glad we packed hats.
We walked to tour parliament buildings, about 15 min away. We also went to the new war museum which is really something to see.
I would highly recemend this hotel and found myself
thinking that if teens came here to school, we might get to return someday.
Spacious and comfortable

This is one of the better hotels I've stayed in. Although not much to look at from the outside, the rooms were very comfortable and spacious. We had two full bathrooms, kitchen with dishwasher, living room, and den. The price was not much more than a standard motel. The hotel also had a very large modern gym with HDTV monitors and a 24 hour convenience store connected to the lobby that can be accessed by your room key. Highly recommended!
I recently stayed at the Albert at Bay Suite Hotel with two of my buddies. Upon check-in, I asked about the rollaway from when I called in the reservation, but instead was given a free upgrade to a two-bedroom suite with three queen size beds! This suite is HUGE! It had three queen size beds (one in 1 room, two in the other); two huge bathrooms complete with tub/shower and a large mirror; a living room with a pull-out sofa; two TVs, a dining room, a work desk, a walk-out porch; a kitchen with stove, microwave, and refrigerator/freezer; plenty of closet space and free underground, very secure parking. The lobby was spacious with cushy chairs to sit by the fireplace as you read a free newspaper and chomped on a free apple. There were also two computers and a printer available on this floor that served as a business center. The newly built fitness center has Nautilus machines, dumbbells from 2-40 lbs., two elypticycles, a stairmaster, two treadmills, and a stationary bike - all with built-in cable TVs! However, the view from this gym is much better than watching TV! There are also two flat-screens visible while you lift weights. While, I didn't take advantage of the weather, the rooftop has a BBQ and 10 or so chaise loungers.
We were a 10-minute walk to Parliament Hill and another five minutes to Byward Market which reminded me of a smaller version of Fanueil Hall in Boston. The customer service at this hotel was great! They had no problem giving us directions to faraway places like the Corel Center (hockey) and to our next destination, Montreal. They recommended great restaurants and must-see's of Ottawa. The staff was also willing to exchange our US dollars for us - it wasn't better than the rate you would get from an ATM, but it was close. The parking was big enough to hold our Dodge Intrepid and we also saw several small SUVs there. I think there would be enough clearance there to park my Honda Pilot!
All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Ottawa.
Top Local Tips for Ottawa
Secret ways to access downtown
To avoid the traffic of the market area, try utilizing the Gatineau (Hull) side of the river and utilize the bridges. For example, we came to Ottawa from Montréal via A-50. Rather than taking the exit for A-5 to Ottawa as the signs suggest, we followed A-50 to Montcalm, turned left and followed this street around to the Confederation Bridge. From this point, you are clear of the downtown area of Ottawa.
No. 97 Bus
I took the No. 97 OC Transpo bus from outside the airport arrivals area to right outside the hotel for a cost of $1.90: what a bargain!
See as much as you can in a day?
In one day we were able to go on the tour of the Parliament bldg. and the Peace Tower, go on the tour of the city on the double decker bus, and then on the Ottawa River boat tour at sunset (7:30 pm), and returned from the boat tour just in time to see the light show at Prliament Hill - a full day indeed but very doable and a great way to do it if you only have one day.
