False Impression - Beware!!!from A TripAdvisor Member
It therefore pains me tremendously to know that travellers are being duped into thinking that White Oaks is located in this wonderful old town. White Oaks is nowhere near the old town!! There is nothing romantic or quaint about this hotel and there is nothing of interest around it. White Oaks sits directly beside a major highway (the QEW) and it is at least a 7 mile drive to reach the old town. Please, before you book your stay at White Oaks be aware of where it is. Get a road map of the area and locate Niagara-on-the-Lake which is a small town right at the mouth of the Niagara River where it empties into Lake Ontario (this is where you want to be). Now locate the junction of the QEW highway and the 405 highway (near St. Catharines) - that's where White Oaks is!!
The catch is, technically, White Oaks is situated in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake as the region is legally known, but which would better be described as the "Township" or "Region" or "District". The old town is at one end of the "Township" and White Oaks is at the furthest possible point away from the old town.
Niagara-on-the-Lake is a perfect destination for getaways where you park the car on your arrival and don't use it again until your departure. If you stay at White Oaks - you will be spending a lot of time in your car!

Definitely not what it sounds likefrom A TripAdvisor Member
"It's OK, don't get me wrong, but it is NOT in Niagara-on-the-Lake. At the end of the day it's a good road-side hotel with people coming in to work out at the public health club."
The White Oaks sits right next to the QEW interstate. The website shows what appears to be a hotel on a golf course. This is not the case. There are courses nearby, but the hotel is neither a spa nor a resort. The "resort" is a public gym that included a summer day camp for young children ("pool closed from 3-4 for camp"). The spa was not impressive. The facility seems dated.
Our room, on the key-access 7th floor of the "tower," was clean and as pictured, but overpriced.
The "Liv" restaurant was good.
My advice: stay in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

I felt like they were doing me a favour to confirm my stay and check me in!
Next OK room is not bad - but internet does not work and when it does you pay $10 per day.
Service in restaurant is worse that the front desk - I mean non existent.
So if you just want a place to crash . . . OK
Otherwise anything else in this area is better
Great Food, Nice Hotel, Crappy Locationfrom irblaster
Inside the hotel, it rates and deserves its 4-diamond award. But not 5-star by any means. Common areas are contemporary and luxurious. There are about ten indoor tennis courts and ten racquest/squash courts, tan room, nice large pool and large whirlpool beside a small fake waterfall. There is a sports lounge and billiards too. Also the spa treatments.
Rooms are spacious and contemporary, in good condition on balance though ours had a few rips & marks in the wallpaper. But you cant expect hotels to replace furnishings everytime something happens.
I'd strongly recommend getting a garden-view room. We had a garden view King Superior room. Some had balconies/patios, ours did not. It was $130/night on the Canada Day & 4th of July wkend, as part of a package that included full breakfast and wine tours and a gift of chocolates & wine. The room was very quiet. It had a large in-room safe, great to keep our laptop in. Alas, internet costs $10/day extra for wireless hi-speed, or 15-cents a minute for dialup (ripoff).
The outdoor garden is quite nice, not large but still nice to stroll along the paths and sit by. Too bad you can hear the highway.
Beds were exceptionally comfortable. Wonderful duvet and pillows. Also, there is a nice small stereo with a CD player and sleep-music CD in the room inside a book that explains good sleep hygiene.
Room service is available 6 am til 11 pm. But eating in the Liv restaurant is a highlight here. It continues with the contemporay theme in decorating and presentation. Fine dining and breakfast is very good, though pricey. Eg: $44 for lamb, $12 for cheesecake, $19 for fondue. Breakfast entrees are $11 and up. Or you can have the breakfast buffet with your room rate for an extra $30/couple and I recommend it because there was a good selection of good food, and nothing else is in the area. Buffet has fruits, bagels, sausage, bacon, ham, eggs, crepes, benedicts, etc. Plus each day there is an excellent made-to-order item such as belgian waffles or omellette.
Bottom line. The location is very inconveniet for NOTL, though it's a central location from which to explore the larger niagara region of NOTL, the winery country, niagara parkway, St Catherines, Niagara Falls, the cherry & peach orchards, all of which are within 15-20 minutes drive (I guess you could even go to buffalo in half an hour, but who wants to visit buffalo haha). It is good value for the area, as you would pay double in NOTL for getting a lot less. But of course you're NOT in NOTL! So, you decide which suits you, ultimately it's a personal choice. Personally, I'd prefer a nice B&B in town if it was a short stay.
Smokers beware.from A TripAdvisor Member
The pool, hottub, steam room were closed down the two days we were there.
The rooms are nice average size nothing special a bit overpriced average size you cant open a window, and if you could the noise from the hwy's the circle the hotel would drive you nuts.
If you cant eat sweets bring a snack to your conference meetings because all they serve is small dry pastry.
The staff if very friendly and it is not uncommon to say hi or good morning 15 time's just going down the hall.
If I wanted I could have spent the day at the spa for 350.oocdn ( but I passed) the hotel is 1/2 hr away from the casino and there is no shuttle. Needless to say I am happy to be home.
Top Local Tips for Niagara On The Lake
Try the Wineries If you do make it to a lovely place along the beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake, please be sure to check out some of the wineries. They do wine and cheese tastings as well as vineyard tours (weather permitting). We went to Reif Estate for a wine and cheese tasting and it was excellant.
Check 1, 2, 3.... Always check your room and bed before settling in. If you are not comfortable sleeping in that particular room for any reason. Ask to be moved to another room or check-out and stay somewhere else.
Main St. The main strip at Niagara on the lake is somewhere you must go. Simply beautiful and everyone is so nice, bring your dog they'll love you for it.
