Historical Traveller Reviews of Shaw Club Hotel
Avoid at all costs unless you wish to pay over $400 for cleanup charges!!
My wife suprised me with a stay at the Royal Park Hotel ( The Shaw Club Hotel ; Royal Park Hotel, PO Box 642, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON, L0S 1J0 Canada) this September of 2006 for my birthday. The facility was very clean and the nearby restaurant was ok but far from a top end eatery.
The following day, my wife was very upset to recieve a call that indicated that there will an additional cleaup charge of over $400 for urinating on the bed sheets?!?.
I called the store manager immediately and complained that we did no such thing and found it insulting that such an accusation would be presented to us.
If you are looking for a wonderful hote in the area, then I would suggest one with friendlier service that will not shock you with unsubstantiated claims of charge.
Amazing new hotel!
I recently stayed at this new hotel in Niagara on the Lake and was very impressed. I felt like I was in a trendy New York Hotel that had somehow managed to incorporate small town charm! While we had a minor error on our dinner bill, it was rectified immediately, and the restaurant was incredible.
The Shaw Club was a dream hotel!
I just came back from a much needed long-weekend at The Shaw Club and didn't want to leave! I have made several trips down to the Niagara-on-the-Lake in the past couple of years and have always opted for the B&Bs. I'm so happy that a friend recommended The Shaw Club for this year's trip. I felt like I was walking into a trendy New York boutique hotel with a zen-like sitting room off the lobby and a beautiful aquarium stretching behind the front desk. I was even more amazed when I got to my room to find a feather bed and a spacious jacuzzi tub. I barely paid more than I do for the B&Bs I've been staying at! The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more accomodating and I can't wait to go back.
LOVE this one
Stayed last week. Hotel is cool and tasteful. I have stayed in many, many small upscale hotels but this one is one of the best. Lobby is very serene and comfortable, staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Loved the bedroom. Bed is outstanding with featherbed and down duvet. BAthroom is great with huge shower and TV in mirror! Lots of surprises in rooms with welcome gifts that are yummy! Highly recommend.
We arrived on July 16 for a 3 night package in a king room with balcony facing the Shaw Theatre. The balcony was large enough to seat 2 people comfortably, however, there were no chairs! A small issue since they are still making improvements to the property. The rooms are furnished beautifully and although small are extremely well designed. The plasma tv is great and the tv in the bathroom is an excellent treat. Bathroom has only a shower - no tub - but it is large and well designed. The amenities are topnotch. Refrigerator is handy for all the wine you buy at the wineries!!! They also provide wine glasses without asking. The glasses are not standard hotel fare but rather upgraded lovely ones that are an extremely nice touch. Turndown service is fine but they did not touch up the room (remove and replace used towels, amenities, wash glasses) - bottled water is provided at turndown. The bedding is to die for!Cappucino all day and night in the guest lobby - fabulous decor and excellent movie selection....welcome champagne and cheese tray was EXCELLENT! Presentation on everything is top notch and the staff is so friendly you just want to hug them all the time. Breakfast is great.....lots of variety and Zee's is a wonderful restaurant for lunch and dinner with a great patio for people watching. With some minor tweaks - this should be the best property to stay at in NOTL in absolutely no time!

When I checked into the Shaw club Hotel in Niagara on the Lake in Ontario, was I plesantly surprised! Taking the place of the Royal Park at the Shaw Festitval is the spanking new Shaw Club. Reminded me of the great hotels I stayed in in Toronto and New York city. Up to date and functional. the staff was great and they had only been open a few days when I arrived, but things were moving well. The location, right across from the Festival Theater is a real plus...also the great restaurant "Zee's" in the hotel is first rate. Great food and spectacular presentation. I'm going back and soon.
Wow - What a Difference!

Last week we were at Niagara-on-the-Lake and had an opportunity to visit The Shaw Club (formerly the Park Hotel)...what a difference! The room was justr gorgeous, contemporary and lovely. They thought of everything for the visitor even including a button to automatically raise and lower the window shade. There was a TV in the mirror in the bathroom and a lot of clever touches to make the visitor feel comfortable and appreciated.
The lobby was completely redone and just beautiful with a separate seating area for guesta that was quite elegant. And you have to see the Ladies room. It has the most unusual sink I have ever seen! Very contemporary and very appealing.
We've eaten at Zees, the hotel's restaurant before; but they now have a new summer menu and the food was fabulous and presented very well! The staff was friendly and knowledgable and altogether we had the best visit ever to Niagara-on-the-Lake. I can hardly wait to go back!!

I frequently stay in Niagara on the Lake. I have pretty much stayed at all the hotels, but this is new, i think it used to be called royal park hotel on the main street in town, next to the shaw festival theater(the main reason i come to town), just reopened as The Shaw Club hotel, after what must have been huge renovation project. The hotel is beautiful, i mean really very nice and contemporary with lots of modern interesting technology including flat screen t.v, i pod clock radios, wireless internet. There was no shortage of creature comforts either, the bed was amazingly comfortable. My room had a firplace and a small outdoor patio and a small refrigerator and starbucks coffee in the room and the light switches and curtains worked from switches next to the bed. Little things mean a lot. The location is really convenient, we walked to absolutely everything and there is a very cool resaturant attached to the hotel with a great porch and patio and clever food presentations worth seeing and tasting. I have to say we enjoyed ourselves A LOT, the hotel staff was very accommodating, really friendly folks, we were some of the first to stay in the hotel and they were serving us champagne to celebrate This hotel will be busy- It's not like anything else in Niagara on the Lake, hghly recommend it.
we love it here
Nice place to stay, great location and dinner was super! Pasta dishes creative and top of the line. We have returned and will again for a night away.
If you like rotten meat
from A TripAdvisor Member
I had the misfortune of staying at the Park Hotel and found the staff curteous but regretfully they all had poor memories. We were put in the budget room which cost about 150$ per night. It was in the basement with a small window with virtually no natural light. The basement smelt of rotten meat and and despite asking for the TV to be repaired on 3 occasions nothing was done. The managress offered us a paultry 10 % discount after we complained. I left it at that because the whole place appears to be crumbling around them. Dont spoil your stay in Niagra on the Lake by staying in this tumble down smelly shack. Spend the money you will save by staying in a B & B on a nice meal instead.
Top Local Tips for Niagara On The Lake
You HAVE TO visit Zee's! The presentation of the food is amazing and the taste equally amazing! Also, we were able to go on the Hillebrand and Pellar Estates Wine tours and they were wonderful. We were not big wine drinkers prior to coming here but we gained such an extensive education that we have learned to appreciate it very much.
Make sure to visit the many wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake. If you've never been there before, book an afternoon tour with a tour company (there are several). They will drive you around and give you a sampling of the many different types of wineries in the area. Then next time, you can drive yourself around to the ones you want to see! They also do bike tours in the summer!
Great wineries abound-grab a map!!
