Historical Traveller Reviews of Pan Pacific Whistler Hotel

Great hotel, clean, friendly staff, perfect location

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Pan Pacific in early July. The rooms are very spacious, I would recommend the 1 bedroom Jr. Suite, which has a full kitchen, living room and dining room. The windows are floor to ceiling in the living room and bedroom and have wood blinds, patios and even a black out shade in the bedroom (they also change the duvet covers when people check out) There were a couple of times when we needed items for the kitchen and they were delivered almost immediately. The valet service is somewhat lacking, at times very slow....but other then that the staff is very friendly. You can sit in the hot tub or swim in the pool with a direct view of the mountain bike park. We usually stay at Westin or other Starwood Resorts, but this hotel has better ammenities then the Westin just across the way.
I'm now excited to try other Pan Pacific Resorts around the world.

Great view of Mountain Bike Action--Friendly Service

from MBHMarietta_GA
We have stayed at the Pan Pacific two years in a row---with a great unit with a wonderful view of the mountain bike park. We love the beds, the daily coffee, I cannot think of anything we did not like about the accomodations. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The only negative I can think of is the $20 per day to park but I was told all the hotels in Whistler charge it. If you are a mountain biker or fan of mountain biking this hotel is great---ask for a view of the mountain bike park. I would not hesitate to go back and stay a third time at this hotel.

Rough Around the Edges

We stayed at this hotel on July 17, 2005. Our favorite amenities were the comfortable beds, the blackout curtain in the bedroom, the free-flowing shower, and the complete kitchen.

On the downside: The bellboy couldn't help us with our luggage because "they were out of dolleys," the reception clerk told me that "best available price" doesn't mean what it seems to mean, that an "upgrade" includes a few of a dirty mountainside torn up by mountain bikers, and that "somebody will be right there" is an idle promise.

The only ice machine is on the 2nd Floor.

A buffet breakfast is available for $14.95 per person.

This hotel has a good location and is an acceptable place to stay if you get a very good rate and are not expecting the kind of service suggested by the rack rate.

Great Hotel!!!

from Tristan316
Everything at this hotel was perfect! Great friendly staff, great facilities, and the best location in Whistler!!! We were upgraded to a suite, and that made our vacation just that much better! It is a perfect place to go to get away from it all and just relax! The hot tub is perfect for watching the skiers come down the mountain while you relax! If you come to Whistler....try to stay here!

I just got back from an 8 day trip to Whistler and the Pan Pacific is very nice. We stayed in a studio room with a murphy bed (it folded up when not in use) with a sofa bed that could sleep 2 more if needed. The kitchen was perfect and had all the plates, pots, utensiles, etc.. you could need. The gas fireplace and furnishings were warm yet sophisticated. Our view was to the village, not the mountian, and though it was not particularly scenic it was not a problem since we were snowboarding all day. Rooms are VERY soundproof.
The hot tubs and pool are not only fantastic, but they overlook the whistler gondola and lifts. The steam room would have been better if it had stayed on all the time instead of just when you pressed the button. the tiles were cold, although there was steam. To me what makes this better than the Westin or other 4* hotels is the location and size. The location can NOT be beat. period. And the hotel is large but not so large that it's far to the pool, or lobby, or fitness room. I find the Fairmont and Westin to be too large. We had friends at each and all agreed that Pan pacific was the best overall choice.
My ONE BIG complaint is that the bed was not particularly comfortable, probably because it was a murphy bed, but still they could do better for the $$. There is a $20 per day parking fee and you will not need a car since there is a complimentary hotel shuttle to take you where you take the Peremiter bus there.

Good times

Stayed for a weekend here with my girlfriend to celebrate an anniversary last June. It wasn't as lavish as I had expected but it was certainly good enough, besides, we were here to escape the city and to spend some quiet time together which we certainly did.

Our only gripe with the property is that our room keys didn't work the first few times but then technical mishaps do happen and the staff did get it resolved pretty quickly.

The pool and hot tub outdoors is simply fantastic, although the pub downstairs could've had some more attentive staff.

Other than that, if you want to splurge a little and enjoy yourself this is a pretty decent bet.

Was better in the past

from Thaumaturge
I have skiied in Whistler several times staying at the Pan Pacific the last few. On my last visit in 2003 (prior to the extra tower addition) our favorite room was not available and they stuck us in a room on the third floor overlooking the bus stop. The noise from the buses is horrendous. They did switch us to another room without incident, but I was not happy that my (double-confirmed) orginal room had been booked out from under me. They told me the party in the room decided to stay an extra day. Uh, right. In any other hotel on the planet, you'd be asked to leave or change rooms.

The staff has gone downhill in my opinion, and is not up to the level one would expect at these prices.

In any case, the Pan Pacific rooms are small, but elegant. The location is what you are paying for, and can not be beat. Truly though, you are really overpaying since few rooms in Whistler are all that far from the lifts anyway.

My recommendation is to pass on the Pan Pacific and check out other options.

Very nice hotel!

Stayed at the Pan Pacific on 1/20-1/23/05. Found the staff very nice and helpful. The room, a studio suite facing the village, was very clean, spacious, and confortable. The bed was incredible. The location is outstanding, as it is right at the base of the gondolas for both Whistler and Blackcomb.

t get a package deal

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Whistler at the end of October. It was my birthday and my fiance' and I purchased the "Fall Romance" package. The package was not what we expected. We were told we would be getting a one-bedroom suite with mountainside view, a bottle of champagne, a welcome basket with bathsalts, candle, chocolates, etc. , parking, and breakfast in bed. When we arrived the gal at the front desk was a little puzzled about the package she didn't know anything about it. She had to call housekeeping to check and see if anything was put in our room. Housekeeping responded with a "yes." Without asking us about our breakfast preference (which was supposed to be included) the front desk agent gave us our keys and sent us to our room. When we arrived at our room there was a small basket on the kitchen table. I was really looking forward to this so I immediately opened it up to find 2 apples, 2 bananas, a pear, a box of crackers, and a tub of cheese. No candle, no chocolate, no bath salts, no card, nothing. This was very disappointing. I didn't want that to ruin our night so I didn't bother saying anything. We then left our room to go to the pool which I must says was awsome! The hot tub at night was exactly what I had been waiting for. It was very romantic with the beautiful scenery of the mountains in the background. The hotel itself is very beautiful as well. You really can't get any closer to the ski lifts than the Pan Pacific. I was very curious about breakfast so I stopped at the front desk on my way back up to the room. The front desk attendant told me she had just left a message in my room about coming down to fill out our breakfast choice list. (Not very efficient since they could have asked at check in.) The next day when our breakfast arrived the guy handed me a bill for $34.00! I said "this was supposed to be included in our package." Again he knew nothing about the package and told me to contact the front desk. I figured I would wait to call them since we were checking out in a few hours anyway. When we did go down to check out, again, I was handed a bill. This time for parking (which was $25.00!!!) Parking was also supposed to be included!! I was furious by now and refused to pay. Another woman came to the desk (I'm guessing she was a manager) She told the gal to reverse all of the extra charges but nobody ever apologized which was frustrating. I'm the Assistant G.M. at a hotel and I know that if you want to be recognized as a luxury establishment you need to at least get your staff trained on the services you offer. This is a gorgeous property but the service was below average.

Discriminating and condescending

from Arindam0130
We booked a 2 bed room suite at Pan Pacific Lodge Whistler, BC between Oct 1 and Oct 4, 2004. My parents, wife and 2 year old child were accompanying me and we were celebrating our wedding anniversaries which are a day apart. While the initial check in and welcoming process was smooth and hassle free, we were subjected to discrimination and condescending behavior when we visited the restaurant in the premises (Aurthur's) on Sunday, Oct 3 for breakfast. The restaurant boasted a 2 for one breakfast buffet till 12 noon. When we arrived around 11 am we were made to wait for a significantly long duration before someone decided to address us. In a very condescending tone we were told to find places on the right side of the patio. When we went up there, there were no places available so we headed back to the entrance only to have one of the female ushers sharply asking us to head back there again. On insisting that there were no places available in the patio, they did not even bother to look for any place and instead just pointed us to a dark corner at the back of the restaurant which was not even lighted. On mentioning that the place was not lighted, the male person very grudgingly switched on the light for us and pointed us to a booth at the back (please note he did not take us there). On reaching the booth we found the seats shred apart with the cotton and stuffing material coming out. On being told how disrespectfully we were being treated, the male usher just shrugged his shoulders. After which I mentioned that I cannot tolerate to being treated this way and that we needed to leave, he opened an adjacent side door for us with no apologies and said " Here you go, it will help you leave the room quicker!"

This incident left a very bad taste in our mouth and we brought it up with the hotel authorities who gave us a guest survey card. Needless to say the anniversary celebration was not as enjoyable as we hoped for. I was recommended to this hotel by an employee of Pan Pacific in the highest ranks who is also a close friend. We visit Whistler very often and will make sure we don't stay at this hotel ever.

Top Local Tips for Whistler

Pan Pacific is the way to go! The town of Whistler is a designed village built around some beautiful scenery. The village turned me off, however our hotel was so grand and comfortable without being pretentious that it made up for the brick streets jammed with teens and young adults. The town is renowned for all season sporting opportunities and it sure does deliver! Whatever one can do on a mountain they have there, as well as water activities and just darn beautiful scenery and wildlife. As the Olympics are coming in 2010 they are building and adding infrastructure. I will love watching the Olumpic games on tv and remembering my stay in that wonderful hotel.

No car really neded for Whistler visit! Don't need a car in Whistler as there is great shuttle service from Vancouver and plenty of shuttle companies to transport you to and from various sites.

value minded? Stick to the pubs, cafes, and bakeries. A true resort town in that there are a lot of overpriced restaurants. We ate at some of the pubs and that was a value with great food, beer, and service. Did breakfast in our room. Lots of ways to save especially when your room has a kitchen.
