It's better nearer to heaven

Thinking of staying at the Laurel Point? During my resent stay the first room we were offered on the 2nd floor a view of a tree just the tree nothing else! we had to push hard to be moved to the 4th floor here the view was better but you will need to be fit and slim to sit on the balcolny. There is a high ledge to climb over and very little room on the balcolny. The room was clean but a little on the small side.The young man on the front desk very helpful. service at checking out was slow.

stayed for 4 nights in august on the third floor in the new wing
who can forget looking out and seeing those ducks swimming in the
hotel's pond first thing in the morning ,the breakfast choice is
good and all very fresh
the room is a good size and the location is great for the sights

Great View

Stayed here for two nights in a studio suite. We were given a room on the first floor facing the Oriental garden and asked for a higher floor. We were moved to the third floor "What a difference". The view opened up the room and really made the trip to Victoria worthwhile. The room was lovely but it did have a few stains on the walls and carpets but it didn't matter because it was modern with a spacious bathroom and with that view you can't complain. The hotel bar and restaurant was a bit drab but you will want to have breakfast in your room looking out onto the bay. The hotel isn't posh but the new wing facing the harbour makes this place special. For great seafood try Pescatores next to the Empress hotel you won't be disappointed. If you are coming over from Vancouver take the ferry over and the seaplane back.

I would like to take this opportunity to say how much we enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Laurel Point Inn. It was beyond all our expectations.........we stayed in a Studio Suite on the 5th floor, and the view of the harbor was only spectacular. Suite was spacious and spotlessly clean....with a large balcony. Must mention that lavish large bathroom.....what a pleasure. Must see to believe!!!!!!!! Gave us ideas how to update our own bathroom here at home.
The staff were so pleasant and nice....all with great personalities. Every one of them needs to be complimented. Food was excellent in that dining room with a beautiful view of the harbor. I could go on and on, but our stay there was the best. We were on our 42nd wedding anniversary vacation....and will without a doubt go there again.
Studio Suite on the 5th floor will stay in our memory for ever......also that great walkway in front of the hotel along the harbor..... that was really a pleasure.

Get a suite!

We loved this hotel, but please listen to tripadvisors and book a suite in the South (ie newer) wing. We were on the 3rd floor and had an excellent view of Outer Harbour, sunset, airboats taking off and the hotels Japanese garden. A bonus was the exhibition of artifacts and objets d'art in the corridor - we walked out to see a beautiful silk kimono. We were surprised by the very reasonable prices for food and drinks in the bar/restaurant and enjoyed good service and hospitality.If you walk into the Downtown area do try the Sticky Wicket pub!

Great views and pleasant rooms

The Laurel Point is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous views of the harbor, but there are two wings- one new, modern, with upscale suites - and the older, neglected wing with good rooms but tiny balconies. The photos you see online are mostly the newer, suite wing. The older wing looks like an old dorm from the outside, one side is brown brick and the other is painted white - but inside is a different story: the rooms are light, pleasant and nicely if not lavishly appointed. Beds and comforters are very comfortable, and I had only nice things to say about housekeeping and the staff. The halls and common areas are clean and well-maintained in both the old and new wing. The suites in the new wing are done in a minimalist asian style, the real attractions here are the views and the huge balconies - and of course the size of your balcony depends on the size of your suite. The tub in the honeymoon suite is marvelous... The hotel has a great location on the harbor; you can walk to most, if not everything in the harbor tourist area, and it is a very short walk from the Port Angeles Ferry. The lobby bar is lively and the desserts are wonderful. Although the rates for standard rooms in the old wing are competitive for the area and view, if you chose to stay here and will spend more than a little time in your room, I'd spring for a suite, preferably on a higher floor. You'll get a much greater sense of value and really see what the Laurel Point has to offer.

The Laurel Point Inn is a quiet retreat, located a few minutes' walk from the ferry landing and a few more blocks to the center of Victoria. The hotel is clean, comfortable and understated. The staff at the front desk were extremely helpful.

Shabbier each visit!

Wonderful location, but shabby. The concept is terrific, very zen-like spaces, but getting progressively more worn looking the last few trips in 2003 and 2004.
Stains on carpets and on furniture, broken coffee makers and lack of attention to details make it hard to explain the premium prices charged.
I don't plan to return.

We spent Spring Break week at the Laurel Point Inn, Victoria our son and daughter-in-law. The studio suites were in the "newer" section of the hotel and had wonderful views of the harbor, especially at night. The cherry trees were blooming and the walkway by the harbor is nice for a stroll or to walk to town. The bathroom is huge and all marble-beautiful but cold w/o slippers. We used room service several times especially for breakfast and the food was well prepared and delivered timely. I agree with another viewer that the hotel is showing its age and the rooms should be cleaner. We felt is was more of a young persons retreat because the low asian couches and hard bed didn't bother them.

We stayed in the studio suite and it was lovely. HUGE bathroom with marble everywhere. A double sink so we didn't have to share! The soaker tub was excellent. The room was spacious which included a queen bed and L-shaped couch. We were on the bottom floor so the view of the harbor could have been better. We over looked the Japanese garden. Price included a full buffet breakfast with made to order omlette bar. Staff was very helpful. Close to everything. Would definetly stay at the Laurel again.

This is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in a studio suite as advised. It was very spacious and the bathroom is superb. It has a very large soaker tub, large shower, etc. The only downside to our stay was the very late housekeeping ( after 3:00pm) on some days. The request for earlier maid service was not always followed. The buffet breakfast was ok, but not outstanding. The muffins, croissants could have been fresher. We will stay again though.

Top Local Tips for Victoria

Go "carless" if you can. In the summer, Victoria is not a good city for a car. Parking is at a premium, traffic is bad, and you may have to park your car in line for the ferry the night before you leave (if traveling to Port Angeles.) Bus travel via BC Transit is convenient and inexpensive. Get a day pass at the Visitor"s Center, and you can travel throughout the city, and as far away as the towns of Sooke and Sydney. Most Victoria activities are centered around the inner harbour, and you can walk almost anywhere you want to go. If you prefer not to walk, there are pedal-bike "taxi"s, horse drawn carriages, and water taxis to get you where you want to go.

Visit your hometown coupon offers We are from Edmonton but were still able to buy a coupon book for people who live in Victoria. It had oodles of free admissions and discounts for only $10 a book. Great deal. Was valid for 5 days at the end of February.

Packing Keep in mind that even in summer, when the sun is warm, the cool breezes off the water can be chilly. Your best bet is layers.
