Historical Traveller Reviews of Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort and Spa Hotel

great place to stay

from nannydee
We just returned from Victoria after a four night stay at the Delta Victoria resort. I had read the reviews from the tripadvisor and knew the location would be good. We have stayed at the Laurel point but the review comments indicated that that it was in need of refurbishing so we booked the Delta this time. I can say that the location was great with wonderful views of the harbor and Parliament building. It was great to eat breakfast on the boardwalk each morning that was included in our room rate. The staff was also very personably and helpful, making us feel special. The walk from the hotel to the Empress Hotel was about 15 minutes, you also could take a harbor ferry for a small fee. The trip was wonderful and the comments from tripadvisor was very helpful in making decisions on where to stay. I highly recomment this hotel and will definetly stay here again.

Over-rated

Stayed here in August 2004 on the basis it is supposed to be one of the best hotels in Victoria. Location is great, with views across to Victora and convenient ferry buses. However, arriving at 4pm we had to wait nearly 2 hours to check in to our rooms as they were not ready. The rooms were dark and old-fashioned - a bit oppresive. Despite requesting a harbour view 5 months in advance, we were allocated rooms at the side where you could see the main waterfront if you craned your neck. Food in the restaurant was actually very good, even if we could not get a reservation in it for our first night. Small indoor pool with no staff in attendance anywhere to clear up towels etc. Not my idea of a four star hotel and think it is over-rated.

The Delta is Delightful!

from newlyretired
My husband and I had an unforgettable stay at the Delta Victoria for 5 days in August. Perhaps it was because of the friendliness of the staff, the magnificent views and the beauty of the hotel. We are world-class travelers and found the Delta to be one of the best places we stayed. I highly recommend the Signature Club floors for the scrumptious breakfasts and the "gourmet" hor d'oeuvers from 5-7 each day (well worth the extra cost). Of course, the highlight was the floor to ceiling window overlooking the glorious, pristine harbor. The hotel is a short walk from the active city and the seclusion is refreshing at the end of the day. A complimentary shuttle will drive you back to town. Forget the austere Empress; this hotel is grand yet welcoming at the same time.

Wonderful romantic honeymoon suite!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I booked a reservation for our 6th wedding anniversary for the honeymoon suite. It is not very large, but quite nicely decorated, very clean and pleasant, but the real feature of this room is the large wooden deck overlooking the gorgeous inner harbour. The deck has a covered roof and jacuzzi spa (I think it is meant for 4 people) raised on the deck, two lounge chairs and an eating area. The spa is tucked in the back of the deck, private and quiet, nestled with plants, hidden away from the outside world, but offers a beautiful, unobstructed view of the harbour and the sparkling lights of downtown victoria. We brought several candles and the room has a cd player which can be brought outside for a romantic evening in the bubbling water. Cozy robes and extra towels were provided. We ordered room service (I had a curry mango chicken penne, he had a burger and fries, all were delicious!) and enjoyed the complimentary house wine and truffles. It was a wonderful night and we got to watch the little show the harbour ferries put on in the morning, from the deck, in the morning. The only thing I wasn't happy about was that the business lounge deck where people from the lounge go to smoke, was one level below and to the left of the private honeymoon suite deck, so if people where out there smoking you could hear their conversations clearly and smell their cigarettes clearly. This happened for a very short period only though. Overall a wonderful spot, pricey but for special occasions, so worth it!

Pleasant hotel

Liked the hotel and location. Just across the bridge, most of the downtown and waterfront areas are within easy walking distance.

The rooms are quite nice and modern. On line with what we were expecting.

The outside dining lounge is comfortable and serves good food.

what an overated property!

Can't believe that this hotel is rated so highly. Stayed for 2 nights July, 2004--restaurant closed for renovation, no safes in room, bathrooms totally ugly--and we stayed in a recently "updated" room. Service very helpful and kind, location lovely, grounds beautiful, pool ok. For this property to compete with surrounding luxury hotels, there needs to be some re-examination of its appointments

Not What I Expected

from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading the glowing reviews of this property, I booked a reservation. First, no one mentioned that you must drive through a heavily industrial/commercial section of town to arrive at the Delta. So much for first impressions. Second, the hotel lobby smelled of fried fish when we arrived. Strike Two. Our room, though spacious, was dated and really, quite average. And, we had been told on the phone that the "resort" ran a tennis program. There is no program and the courts are in bad shape. Maybe I'm missing something here, but by my standards, the Delta is an OK hotel; three stars at best, but nothing too special. For the same money, we checked into the Inner Harbor Marriott the next day. It was more conveniently located, cleaner, newer and better serviced.

Good location, wonderful view

from magnet1125
Spent 4 nights at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe last week and found it to be a place worth telling others to go and enjoy....great location, very attentive staff and friendly too....room was clean and spacious (had a partial harbor view) and the bed was as comfortable as any I have ever experienced in a hotel...staff was more than willing to send us to great breakfast spots when we asked....the only negative, and it is somewhat of a minor one, is that there were bird droppings all over the window, and it should have been obvious to the housekeeping staff to alert someone to clean it....

First class

We stayed here for two nights in July 2004. It is quite simply the best hotel we have ever stayed in anywhere in the world. Amazing picturesque location, clean well furnished rooms and staff who continually go that extra mile to make you feel special. What impressed us most, was that the staff genuinely seemed to be happy in their work.

Do not miss out on this hotel. 5 stars wouldn't do it credit. Congratulations to Delta. Pure professionalism.

simpy lovely!!

This is one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. My friend and I came to Victoria for a weekend get-away and we weren't in our room a whole lot, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.
The best part for me were the beds, especially nice because I haven't slept properly in about 10 years (I have three kids). They were luxurious!!! Best sleep ever!!!!
I would definitely return, especially if the price is right.

Top Local Tips for Victoria

Fort Rodd Hill and Beacon Hill Park If you have kids, then you should make the trek out to see Fort Rodd Hill in Colwood. Old military base with awesome views where your kids can run around, beach comb, go into an old lighthouse and many more fun things. Its not super exciting, but a nice trip out of Victoria if your kids are starting to drive you a little nuts! Another fun place to let the kids loose is Beacon Hill Park. Theres a petting zoo that my kids just loved and then there is a fun playground and water area for the younger kidlets as well. Lots of parkland to just let them run and play.

Spring/summer is best Victoria is probably the prettiest city in BC. Make an effort to drive around to look at the old houses, and beaches. Flower & trees prettiest from about late March on.

whale watching we took the prince of whales boat on saturday may 26th and saw abou 5-7 whales near the san juan island.
