We were very impressed with the service of the staff, and the value having breakfast and parking included. We were able to walk to the harbour and the lovely museum. Highly recommended!

Great stay!!!!

Great deal on your basic type of room. The nicest staff that I have ever encountered at a hotel and I have stayed at expensive and cheap hotels. Nice location and very quiet.

Great Location-walking distance to main attractions

This hotel is within walking distance of the parliement, The Empress, Inner Harbour, Fisherman's Warf and the visitors office. Also, nearby are Whale watching tours, Sailing tours, horse carriage tours, Underseas Gardens and the wax museum.

Beds are comfy with nice decor. Our room had a mini kitchenette with mini-fridge (with stove-oven!) and balcony to sit outside to eat if you wanted to. As previously stated there isn't any A/C in the rooms. We had a fan if you needed to move the air around and the patio door could be left open if you needed cool air from the harbour.

Parking and continental breakfast were included in the rate. Breakfast offerings were cold cereals, fruits, bagels, muffins, danishes, tea/coffee/hot chocolate and fruit juices.
It is not a self serve; a hostess will prepare your toasts for you.

The pool is rather small but was clean and heated even on May 20th....We didn't go swimming due to lack of time. There's only a hand full of restaurants near the hotel.

We went to Fishermans' wharf and had some fantastic Fish&Chips at Barb's place, excellent and superb/unique surroundings-not to be missed. You can take the little shuttle boats to the Inner Harbour as well if you wish.

Best Western not best for the price

My wife and I stayed here with our toddler in a one bedroom penthouse suite. We chose the Best Western partly for the excelent location (at the name implies righ by Victoria's inner harbour) but mostly because we wanted a seperate bedroom and full kitchen and we liked the idea of a large jacuzzi to soak in after we put our daughter to bed. The hotel itself if fine, there was a decent complimentary breakfast, free newspapers and friendly staff. The penthouse decor was dated and there were several small annoyances that added up: no wood in the fireplace, garbage disposal not working, no detergent for the dishwasher. I would consider staying here again but only in a much lower price regular room.

Non smoking? Not!

We stayed in a one bedroom suite at this hotel. The first room we were given reeked of cigarette smoke, even though the hotel is suposedly all non smoking. We asked to be moved, and they offered us what is possibly the worst room in the hotel, room 206, right above the front entrance, with a balcony which is blocked by an awning at the front of the building, so receives no light. We complained again, and were given 706- this is the best one bedroom suite in the building. It faces south and has a nice view of the mountains and partial ocean view. Large balcony, jetted tub in the bathroom. It has a kitchenette, but if you want to use anything (ie dishes) other than the fridge, stove and micro, you have to pay an extra $15 per night and have the cupboards unlocked for you. The other downside to the "06" one bedroom suites is that the bedroom backs onto the elevator shaft. If you are noise sensitive- forget it! Otherwise, a tidy, reasonable accomodation. Well located close to the downtown ammenities, with reasonably friendly staff. We were surprised that the parking is not secured, and there is no controlled access to the elevator. In this day and age (even in little old Victoria!) that needs to be rectified. There is a continental breakfast available-you might want to get a juice and have breakfast elsewhere- the muffins were so stale!

Another great find for those on a budget.

Pets are allowed!! Secure onsite parking. DYI laundry facilities, plus spa hot tub. Located in very quiet, sedate, residential area close to beachfront and VERY close to the Inner Harbour ferry landing. You can easily walk to the hotel from the ferry. Clean, quiet, well-appointed rooms. Everything is within close walking distance. Restaurants, not-to-miss famous museum with IMAX, Parliament Buildings, etc. Restaurant on premises served a nice breakfast, (both buffet and ala carte choices) but I would venture farther for lunch and dinner. Victoria has lots of different ethnic choices and great seafood. Hotel staff very polite, helpful, accommodating. They will do everything possible so you make your ferry on time if you are returning to Vancouver BC or Port Angeles, WA. You could choose the very pricey rooms of the very famous hotels on the noisy waterfront; or, you could stay here, a couple of streets removed from the waterfront and get a good night's sleep. Your dog will love having his own queen bed and taking walks along the paved beachside promenades. We would definitely stay here again. The price and location were perfect.

Not as good as last time...., but overall pleasant

Last year we stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, in the Penthouse room (802). This year, reserved the same room again based on last years excellent experience. Though it was nice to see the decking that was new on the outside terrace, the condition of the room overall had slightly deteriorated a little bit since our last stay. We had 4 adults and 2 children in the Penthouse and we all fit very well. The view was to die for and it was 360 of the whole area including views out to Port Angeles and all of down town. All of the applicances worked well, but most of the patio doors had the feel that they were falling apart with loose hardware etc. I think that the value was fair for the season and the location, which is excellent ! The staff at the front desk was awesome. Helpful and accomodating. The staff at the breakfast was pleasant. The maids though nice, caused serious delays in the AM with the elevators that they use for moving their carts around the hotel. Next trip out to Victoria, I will probably try another hotel.

No AC....great location

For some reason, I was under the impression that this hotel had air conditioning. Unfortunately, our room did not on the two nights that AC seemed to be most needed which happened to coincide with our stay. What was even more bizarre was that the lobby had an AC unit going while I inquired about the lack of air in our room!

The hotel is walking distance from all inner harbor areas of interest. Just don't expect to lug a heavy bunch of luggage from the Empress, for example, to the hotel. The streets are a bit complicated for a non local. We ended up walking blocks that would have been short cutted by locals.

There is no inner harbor view from many of the floors...even if they face the harbor. What they really face is a wall of green...which is definitely better than a wall or garbage container! But, if the idea is to see the happenings on the harbor, it wasn't do-able from our balcony.

Extremely helpful/friendly staff.

And, finally, almost nothing in the amenities department. It seems that shampoos and the like are being replaced by tacky wall dispensers of mediocre materiels droplets of which could be shampoo, bath gel and hand soap. I was extremely disappointed in that I really did need some good body lotion and hair conditioner. This was not the only BW hotel where amenities were in the phase out...as we were to find. Definitely a move that you need to stop now before you lose clients to places like Holiday Inn Express...which is doing the exact opposite to our surprise and delight when we found ourselves unexpectedly staying at their hotel nr Edmonton Intl on our final vacation night.

Great Location and Value

We stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed the location. Our room was good sized with 2 queen beds for 3 people. We had a small (outdated avocado green, retro?, but very clean) kitchenette. Everything was user friendly, clean and in good repair. We had a free internet connection (I don't think this is available in every room) and a great view. Had a good size balcony, we were on the 7th floor and were higher up than most hotels in the area. We were able to see the snow capped mountains and the water (not the harbour side) but a great, relaxing view all the same. The staff were all very friendly and helpful whether it was restaurant recommendations or advice on where to go hiking. There was a free continental breakfast every morning with patio or inside dining. Very good. Small outdoor pool and indoor spa. Did not use either. The pool side of the building seemed noisy. Would definitely not get a room near the pool. Would stay here again. Location can't be beat, 1 block from the harbour and 2 blocks from the Parliament Building. We paid $189 a night, not bad seeing everything in Canada seemed expensive.

stayed this june for one night room spacious and clean even had a kichenette hotel offers a complimentry breakfast which was very good. this hotel is in a good location and is very quiet, underground parking for your car is also free

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, Oct 10-11. We had a one bedroom suite with spa bath which was very nice. The spa was very noisy but the bathroom is located in the middle of the suite so I don't think the noise would carry. The bedroom was small but adequate; the lounge area great & the kitchen very handy although our cupboards were locked! The breakfast at this hotel is very strange...a tiny tiny room with not many tables & you have to order everything from the attendant there. My advice is to get what you want & take it back to your room. If you have a toaster, you can toast your own bread/bagels etc & not have to worry about lining up in the miniscule brekkie room.

But the best thing about this hotel was the location. 1 block from the inner harbour...just a stroll to the Empress & government buildings. Also around the corner from the horse-drawn tours which we did & loved. All in all, I would recommend this hotel but definately get the suite! It's worth every cent.

Top Local Tips for Victoria

Airport shuttle/Dining Get frontdesk to book airport shuttle -- cheapest and quickest way to get there and quite practical. Dining at Milestone in the Harbour was a pleasant experience -- fresh seafood and cooked to perfection. Avoid the overrated fish & chips at Barb's place.

Victoria is th e place to be... While Vancouver is a so-so place to visit, Victoria is a place to go back. Excellent weather, friendly people and Victoria has a feel of a small, cozy town. The attractions are overrated here also - Butchart gardens is an OK place, not a heaven on earth as the ads make you believe, but you can just go around and enjoy the Vancouver island.

Plan ahead if you want dinner on Dec 25th If you are there on Xmas day, make sure you have made dinner reservations ahead of time! We drove around and only found a Denny's open, which was packed. The steak restaurant around the corner from the hotel was fully booked. We ended up eating peanut butter sandwiches in the room!
