Best location

Took a chance in late August with Hotwire and we were pleasantly surprised to receive the Westin Bayshore at $76.00! At first we were concerned about the distance from Robson St., etc, but the walk was only a few minutes and the water view was more than worth it. It is really nice to open the sliding door and not hear the city traffic. Just be careful to watch those little charges. We avoided the room phones and the" save the environment by not getting clean sheets or towels" is laughable., but the beds are comfortable. This is my fifth trip and the city is beautiful especially with a bike ride around the park. With Hotwire indicating a 4 1/2 star hotel with a tennis court, I was able to narrow the choices down.

Not so great

Room was nice, great views of city and bay.
However, not near anything as far as shopping or restaurants....if you are on foot, this is a bad choice. Also, the restaurant at the hotel was closed for dinner. The only restaurant to eat at was the bar and it's menu was on "flash cards" sitting on the table....not too much to choose from. We were dissapointed by this.

Great location, great hotel

We stayed at the Westin Bayshore for 3 nights in August 2004. The hotel is a great location overlooking a marina, close to Stanley park and downtown. Request a sea view in the tower and enjoy the views of sailing boats and sea planes. They accomodated our request for adjoining rooms which were comfortable and spacious. Bathrooms are slightly basic but only a minor complaint. The staff were very helpful and genuine. There is great buffet breakfasts - perfect for two boys and the Seawall restaurant was perfect for informal dinning. There is an outdoor pool with pool service and towels and all in all, it was a great place to enjoy a family holiday in vancouver. Thoroughly recommend it.

Lovely Location

Situated at Coal Harbour the views from this hotel must be some of the best in Vancouver. Although before going I felt from other reviewers that it might be a bit isolated, it was central for the places we wanted to go and we were able to walk everywhere with the exception of the other side of downtown, but we just got a no 5 bus down Robson Street. This hotel is really nice. Beware if going to Grouse Mountain in the evening - buses from Lonsdale Quay only run once an hour , hence our journey took 2 hours.

Wonderful view, ovey area

What a wonderful hotel! We had a 17th Floor room facing the water. The night time view was simply breath taking!

The hotel lobby and building were exceptional.

The location is a small walk away from center vancouver, but it is near beautiful Stanley Park and taxis are always available.

What a great hotel! Do yourself a favour when visiting Vancouver and book yourself into this world-class hotel. The location is perfect - right on Coal Harbour outside of the downtown area but still walkable and perched right beside Stanley Park which has to be one of the greatest city parks ever - anywhere! It is also well within easy walking distance of the West End and all the fabulous stores and boutiques in English Bay - and of course that greaet beach!!The rooms were impeccably clean and well-appointed in tasateful decor. You gotta LOVE those 'Heavenly Beds' by Westin. The service was outstanding in all areas from Doorman, Desk Attendant, Bellman, Concierge, to Room Attendants to the Food and Beverage Staff. The toughest decision you will have to make on your stay is deciding on the view you want from your room - will it be the water view framed by the North Shore Mountains or the city view of Vancouver which is STUNNING by night. Will totally take your breath away whichever you chose. Having a hard time deciding? Do what we did and extend your stay by one or two nights and move rooms so you can enjoy the best of both worlds!!

I stayed at the Bayshore as part of a conference - the hotel is luxurious, clean and you can't beat the location. The only downside is at $200/night, I probably wouldn't stay here for personal travel.

Great Location

My husband and I stayed here last October. The view from our room was breathtaking - the bay, Stanley Park, the sea planes, etc. However, the room didn't live up to our expectations. Although the bed was comfortable, the rest of the room needs to be updated. The bathroom was old and very dark. There wasn't much of a balcony and the carpeting needs to be cleaned. Overall a nice hotel but I wouldn't give it a five star rating (or refer to it as a resort).

You cannot find a better setting anywhere. The views are spectacular (mountains, forest, ocean, city lights) and the hotel is situated on the "seawall" which is a lovely walk that encircles the city along the water. The facilities are amazing and the hotel is a short walk from some great attractions such as: Stanley Park, Robson Street, Gastown, and The West End.

Top Local Tips for Vancouver

Bring your Credit Card! Use your credit card instead of messing with the exchange rate for cash. You will find things a bit more expensive than usual, our casual lunch at The Mill restaurant on the harbor ran us $46! (Two sandwhiches, and two sodas!) You will need Canadian change for parking meters, ($4.00 in coins for 120 minutes). Many smaller eateries will only accept cash, you can use American, but instead of the exchange rate being effective, they just use it across the board as even money, which is a loss on the dollar. I still can't beleive we ate a $46 lunch!

Clear US Customs in Canada Be aware that you clear US customs at the airport before you leave Vancouver, so give yourself enough time to check-in (cannot do that online), check your bags, clear US customs, and then clear aiport security. Recommend at least 2 hours, unless very early in the AM, then maybe 90 minutes.

Hons Excellent chinese food that is reasonably priced and caters to vegetarians.Go to the Robson street location, it is an experience you will never forget.
